I would trust the recruiting staff to have seen more of him than I have. The KPDers this year all have significant holes in their games I think and whichever one you take there is a better than normal chance they will flop. We have to take someone and I agree that Tomlinson has some nice attributes and if they decide to take a punt on him at 12 fair enough. I wouldn't personally do it but realistically I would not spend 12 on any of the KPDers this year.

On the issues that I see it:

Tomlinson - height in his game and mental application
Talia - makes Merrett look skilled
Frost - not disciplined and shys away from contact
Paine - has the tools to be a defender but just has no idea how to do it
Schade - from Tasmania ;)
Mihocek - ran 3.38 in the 20m
Blee - mature but only 191
Bussey - inconsistent and not very experienced
Lockyer - I've always seen him as a third tall type but might need to revisit.
Bosley - inconsistent defensively and not particularly skillful

Talia has a few questions on his speed from what I am told, Is that true Quigley?

Paine could be a good option at pick 12.

Talia tested fine for speed. He couldn't jump over a tin can but his speed was fine (not great but pretty reasonable).

Paine is a good worker and I don't mind him. Happy to give him to GWS I was :D

He seems to be rated highly by others and lowly by others.

May I ask why you wouldn't take him at 30?

I'm going to guess because he rates Paine lower than other players likely to be around at 30. ;)

Quick question Quigs, how are the key position prospects for next year shaping up? The general buzz is that next year's batch is a super-draft ala 2001 so are there many tantalizing talls in that mix?

Good Question, am also intersted in the possibilties of KPP's from next years batch.

I don't really follow the 16s and so I just get to look at them once they hit under 18s and the KPs are usually pretty quiet in the first year so its often the small mediums who grab the attention.

On the key positions the three which I have noticed this year have been Mason Shaw, Daniher and Luccon. Daniher will be a father son. Grundy is the obvious ruck stand out. Shaw is a forward and Luccon is a back. There will be others but I haven't turned my mind to it yet.

The smalls who I will be watching keenly next year include - Whitfield, Mayes, Toumpas, Yarran, Garlett, Kennedy, Irra, Taylor, Pongriac and Viney who will be a father son as well. Lots of top grade talent there.

Notice that you did not list deficiencies for Ben Darrou (Sand. Dragons).
Is that because you have not seen much of him or that you don't think he rates a mention ?

Interested in your thoughts on him, and any testing data you may be aware of from Combine.

I can't say I've seen a lot of him apart from his Champs video footage and his game in the TAC GF (which I did like). He doesn't rate much of a mention around BF Draft forums......any reason why, that you can advise?

Still a long way off Draft day, and many changes of mind expected between now and then, but right now I would be prepared to punt on him at 47 (and possibly even 30, dependant on how the Picks were to fall on the day).

i.e. Unless you sway me away...............

He is 190cm or 191cm from memory and is underrated on BF. Is worth a shot from what I have seen (which is very little).

Posted this on you tube, it includes his Champs highlights and some footage I cut from the TAC GF - sorry about the poor quality of the TAC GF footage - was courtesy of Revis TV - they had a hide to charge for that.....)

what are your views on the main half backs quigley?

i saw your write up of buntine

i REALLY want a mid and one of the half backs with 8 and 12 :D

Pick [strike]25[/strike] 26 is in, in the BF Mock........[strike]5[/strike] 4 to go.

What's your advice to Quigley?

(Remembering his first 2 picks were an o'side MID/Fwd in Sumner and a KPF in Kersten).

I liked Paine for 30 (who Quigs doesn't rate), and he is still there, but we already have a KPF, so I am still contemplating on whether to go mid or tall Defender .....hmmmm.

Well in relation to Paine before - he is competitive and tries his hardest, he has average hands, average athletic ability and will struggle at the next level IMO. His champs was average he played on the end of a good midfield as the second tall behind Patton who drew the best defender and didn't do great, which is a worry.

I think for KPD:
Xavier Richards - really underrated on BF, he has good athletic ability and his defensive ability is good, reasonable skills. Has things to work on no doubt and is a project, but has the tools to be a very good KPD.
Henry Schade - Athletic, very good defensively, really good left foot and good rebounder.
Michael Bussey - Athletic, has not put it all together yet, needs to spend time in one position, IMO better bet as a FB.

I think some talls are overrated on BF.

I would also pick Crozier at 30 if available, so much potential there and would be a useful addition to our team.

Looks the way to go should he survive the next 3 picks.

Ellis is probably the next "highest" rated (on BF anyway) that is also still available.

Just like how I expect it to be on the real day, this is where the "shallowness" of this Draft becomes apparent.

Anything beyond mid-late 20's is a lottery - let's hope Hadley gets a winning ticket.

I think Forster would be a good get at 30 if available. Whilst not ready made I think he'll be able to step up pretty quickly and would release one of the backmen.

Quigs are you out there?? You got me thinking today about norm picks vs picks from obscurity or maybe a better way to put it - thinking outside the square (love it by the way). What i would like to know is during these bigfooty phantoms - particualry the bigfooty draft how many players you have chosen for brisbane (that may not have been pick up by us) but have gone on to make it or look like making it. Do you keep any records on this?

Looking back I generally tend not to do particularly well in my Lions picks. I occasionally get something right but my strike rate is not particularly high. I tend to reach late and they are often not even picked.
