That has to wait until the start of the season. It doesn't give us the ability to draft an extra player onto the senior list.

Thanks. :thumbsu:

Suspected it was like that, but hoped that maybe it wasn't....

what is wrong with Greene no one on this board seem's to rate him he would be the perfect replacement for power he has a great ballwinning ability not unlike Dane Swan and wins a lot of clearances something we struggled with last season I saw sumner play sure he looks ok put he cant seem to find the football

I've got a soft spot for Greene and would be happy to see him in Lions colours, but I think WHE and Sumner fill more pressing needs.

I think we may be putting too much into a 'needs' selection. I think we all agree that we need a CHB but if that player is rated at either 8 or 12 by our recruiters then I can't see them taking him for the sake of a perceived need - rightly or wrongly. For that reason I see us coming out of 8 & 12 with two mids - one I/S worker and an O/S finisher.

I can see us with one of Wingard, Longer or Greene at 8 and with Wingard being a SA boy I would imagine he would be PA's choice (no rocket science there!) By the time #7 comes into play GWS will have put in place a midfield packed with potential - including Ward and Scully, so I don't think Greene will end up there- leaving Longer to GWS. IMO Buntine will already be gone by then.

I'm a bit of a fan of both Tomlinson and Kavanagh but I think we may overlook both - even if available. Maybe another Jack Redden type smokey could materialise at 12. I agree with most - a ruckman is a must for us and a project player would have to be on the radar at 47. Of course this could be turned on its head if GWS don't take Longer at 7.

Greene seems to suffer from not having enough exciting things to talk about, like amazing beep tests, or saving a relative's life, or having x-factors. The only thing going for him is that he's good at footy.

People rating other players higher doesn't mean they don't rate Greene. He is quality, but like whatboutbob, I think we have other more pressing needs.

... plus he doesn't look like a footballer.

People rate him but they rate others higher. Would be absolutely fine if we drafted him.

Link ....

Greene has been described by scouts as "your meat and potatoes man", someone who thrives within the confines of stoppages, largely because of his agility and cleverness in tight spaces. When it comes to reading a ruckman's tap, Greene has the acumen.
But there is nothing flashy about his style, just an ability to keep moving to the right spots, use the ball decisively by hand and push to the next contest.

Boring.

Looks can be deceiving.

I was reading somewhere (maybe even here or abouts) that he is one of the better "sledgers" going around and doesn't mind getting into opponents.

Is that like a better version of Rockliff?

Being good in tight, reading the play and getting a lot of the ball makes for very underwhelming youtube highlights.

Why pick a Rockliff type, when you could get someone who runs fast and kicks an amazing goal once a year?

God forbid that we should draft anyone who's good at playing footy.:)

Ah, now I see why you're asking:

AFL_JasonPhelan @superblueiris I like Toby Greene & Adam Tomlinson for the Lions at 8 & 12. Boost for the midfield and a key tall to develop for the future.

Whenever I see Lewis Jetta, everyone marvels at how wonderful he is, despite the fact that he never does anything.

On the other hand Geelong are a good example of how over rated leg speed is.

At draft time pundits imo tend to get sucked in by the 'Lewis Jetta effect' and overlook more important things like proven ability.
