Wingard - once considered a top three pick - is understood to be drifting but should still go in the top 10. The Power looms large with selection six. Forster's stock is rising. He is expected to go anywhere between 15 and 25.

I mentioned it earlier in this thread (I think), but I had a chat to a few blokes involved in the QLD U18 program, both of whom regularly converse with recruiters. Didn't let much slip, but they said Taylor Adams is very highly rated by more than a few clubs. Apparently interviewed really well. Going off Emma's comments, I'm starting to think he could well and truly be in the frame for our pick 8.

Interesting article. I'd agree with him in terms of GWS taking a balanced approach to drafting (I've seen mocks with them taking 3 talls in their first 11 picks - that just won't happen). I also agree that clubs are now more needs driven. I think we're seeing that more and more "best available" has to be tempered with the type of player who best adds to your overall list.

The comment about taking a developing ruck when your first choice ruckmen is about 27-28 rings true as well (although I'd say a year earlier would be ideal).

If both Greene and Adams are available at pick 8, then I think it is highly likely that one or both will be available at pick 12. I can't see a scenario where GWS would take both.

The biggest talking point will be whether Wingard, the SA captain in this year's national carnival, will still be there for the Power to pick up.

"That's the big question and I'd love to know the answer," Parker said. "But I suppose all of us in the top 20 will have to sit back and see who GWS chooses.

"We're just going to pick who we think is the better player.

"Our next pick after that is No. 45 and then we'll start to look at what type of player we need, whether it's a young player to develop."

So I guess there is a good chance of Longer going at 5. Who falls down to 8 ???

I am currently doing a phantom on another site and the GWS guy picked Tomlinson at 8 and Kersten at 11. Tough decisions then because suddenly you have some really nice prospects available at 12 but it doesn't help us get taller. At 8 I went with Kavanagh and Sumner had slipped to 12. But would we be better off with a HBFer like Docherty? Should I reach for someone like Frost? Do I go all in and take Manson? Really hard decision actually and it will be interesting to see what happens in the real thing if something like that happens. I can definately see Tomlinson going at 8.

I am thinking the other way.

Tomlinson at 7, means we make a decision on Longer at 8, as I think he will not fall into their Top 5. GWS to run the gauntlet that we don't take Longer, & that we overlook him at 8, if they want him at all.

If GWS do take Tomlinson at 7, then it allows one of WHE, Longer, Wingard, Buntine to slip to us. This would be a win in my books, GWS can't end up with all of them. These players are generally rated as better prospects than Tomlinson, as people don't seem to be sure of the quality of the KPP's in this draft and what order they should fall.

It doesn't help us get taller if GWS do take Tomlinson. But we could end up with two better prospects.

I think we should expect to see two of the following players to be taken with our two picks.

Tomlinson, Greene, Kavanagh, Buntine, WHE, Sumner.

I don't think Port or GWS would pass on Wingard, whilst I doubt GWS would pass on Longer unless they truly believed that we would skip him with our pick 8, but that's a massive gamble considering our current ruck stocks. I think Tomlinson or Buntine with pick 8 depending on what GWS do.
