That's an interesting article. I have heard that we take a fairly structured approach but that we don't necessarily grill the interviewees to excess. It pays to remember that these are 18yos and not necessarily the brightest or most articulate of the bunch.

Kerr does come across as highly proficient, doesn't he?

What does everybody think the chances are of us picking up both Taylor Adams and Toby Greene? I would have thought quite low considering they are both inside midfielders however they have both been linked to us by Emma Quayle. Say the club doesn't like any of the taller options at both of our picks and decides to go for mids with the first 2 picks who does everybody think they would be? My preference would be Greene and Sumner however Adams and Sumner would be great as well. I can't decide who I like more out of Adams and Greene!

Nothing to do with us but any player taken with pick 6 has never reached 200 games. Yarran, Rohan and Conca are chances.

FWIW, i Think Tomlinson is the KPP we are after, he seems to fit most of the clues. He would give us depth at either end, we need forwards and backs, so it doesn't matter which end he is best at, we can use him there. He could be there at pick 12, but probably not at 16 or 20 (Kerr mentioned that 12 was a big upgrade for us in the draft). He has also been pretty heavily linked to us. Whilst plenty of players have been, Greene and Tomlinson are the main ones that keep coming up.

To answer the question, Tomlinson is gone at 8, then i think we go someone like Sumner and Greene. Both fit our needs in our mid rotations, and would add something new to the list. However, it might depend how slides.

That killer instinct that will push them further than most when the going gets tough. That kick of Docherty is a real weapon too. Can't have too many good kicks in your team ;p

I'll be thrilled with Docherty at 12. Hanley and Docherty as our main defensive rebounders is exciting to say the least.

I'm curious what people see in Tomlinson. From the descriptions he doesn't play any position really well, but has great athleticism and physical attributes - to me that doesn't sound like a pick 8 candidate.

Well, I think saying that he doesn't play either position really well is underrating his ability. He's good up forward or down back just not a star in either position yet. There may be Hurley potential in him. The flexibility is very handy because he can fill a hole if, like Brisbane, your club is in need of both KPF and KPD types. It's all relative anyway, it looks like he could very well be pick 7 material so that we can't get him. I don't think Brisbane's recruitment team will buy into Gubby's mind games to much anyway. If he goes at 7 we take Greene at 8 as he fills the need for a classy clearance midfielder and then, at 12, either go tall with a KPP or pick a hardened rebound/clearing defender like Docherty or Ellis. Personally I'd like to see two small/med then see what KPD's are available at 30. That's not what I've said in the past mind you, I keep changing my mind.

The article seems to gloss over the fact that while WHE's "Magpies link" (his great great grandfather) played 18 games for the Pies, he also played 106 games for Fitzroy, winning two premierships with them...

Would love Buntine and Greene... Docherty I don't mind at 12, but I think there may be 1 or 2 still there that are better prospects.

IMO, my top choices (that I see as possible - even though not likely) would be:

Pick 8 - 1. WHE 2. Buntine 3. Tomlinson 4. Greene
Pick 12 - 1. Greene 2. Kavanagh/Adams 3. Kersten 4. Docherty

On Greene and Docherty: a quality addition to the midfield and a good HBF - I'd be OK with it as an outcome. Not super excited but it seems like a good solid result for us.

One thing I don't like about some of the KPP players being talked about is that I think they fall into a bit of an in-between box in terms of size. Players in the 190 -193 cm range (eg Tomlinson, Kersten, Haynes) just don't seem to be big enough for modern KPPs, and are generally just a bit too big to slot into the midfield - of course there are exceptions (Fev & Bradshaw to name a couple), but I think they need to be a minimum of 195 -197 cm these days, so I hope there's scope for some more growth in these guys.

I think of blokes like Collier, Cornelius, Lester, Macguire & Karnezis who seem better suited to being second or third tall in the forward or back line. I feel we need some taller KPPs who can pinch-hit in the ruck when our sole ruckman goes down, and hold their own as the number one in the forward or backlines - we are looking for replacements for Brown and Merrett.

For those interested Phelan is doing a phantom at 12 today. In past years it was done by Matt Burgen before he left to join a club. I had my complaints with Burgen but I think he had more contacts than Phelan does but still probably worth a look.
