Yeah,

Especially so if we get a priority pick....

It's looking more and more likely that we will end up with pick 8. From all reports, any hope of grabbing a KPP would be a significant reach at this pick (barring any shocks). Common sense says this will result in us going best available. Who is the next in line? Our list lacks significant x-factor/true star potential but generally speaking, these type of kids usually lack consistency and come with quite a degree of risk over their ability to convert this talent into the AFL. The likes of Sumner, Dyson, Grigg, Hoskin-Elliot and Crozier are being bandied around for our pick. From what I have read/heard/seen, Sumner, Crozier and Hoskin-Elliot probably fall into the x-factor category, whereas Dyson and Grigg appear to be more of your 'sure thing' 150 game players. With the precarious position of our list, what will our approach be?

Much the same as last year's Heppell or Polec decision.

Without seeing much of the rest of the talent on offer, I saw enough of Grigg in his last match to make me very comfortable with selecting him with our 1st round pick. Wins the ball and has a beautiful kicking action. He might not be the best player from the draft but he's a different player again to the rest of our midfield mix. Could easily play on a half back flank too - important to have more than one string to your bow these days. He's not exactly what I would choose, all things being equal, (a repeat of 2010 with a Tom Lynch on offer would be nice) but he's going to be a very good player IMO.

Really wish we didn't cash in a compo pick this year.

Unless we have ambitions of trading.

Maybe some combination of our cashed in compo pick, second and third rounders (i.e. not all of them) for a pick in the 10-15 range if someone goes the Fremantle route of delisting half their list.

The other option is that the club sees a lot of those coming off contract this year are not being retained (i.e. we're doing the Fremantle), in which case an additional early pick beats going to pick 100.

Not sure on how he is placed injury wise (missed the champs with a shoulder I believe) but if he has a good run home I could see Shane Kersten coming into contention. Very similar to Darling and definately has the talent to warrant a top 10 selection I think. he was very impressive as an underager last year. The more I think about it the more I am liking the option.

Surely we have someone specific in mind with the compo pick. It seems too odd otherwise.

I like Shane Kersten, but I wouldn't rate him quite as highly as Darling. What height is he?
Last i heard he was 190cm.

He might be available come our compo pick which is more likely and I think it would be a stretch taking him with out first.

Grigg is an interesting one, not too sure on his pace (seems average) but he does have very good skills, and is good inside at winning clearances. We could definately use some good left foot kicks in our side.

Does anyone know anything about this bloke? How many games did his old man play for us?

Jackson Coleman enters the draft radar with a bag of five

"He's very mobile, very athletic and I think he's still really learning the game," Dragons coach Dale Tapping said after his side smashed Bendigo Pioneers by 72 points.

"He's got a lot of upside and I think he'll be better with another football pre-season.

"He's very quick for a big boy.

"If he went into an AFL system he could improve quite rapidly."

Quigley/Offsider I've been reading up and watching some videos I got on this years crop, does Crozier have the ability to play midfield? Where do you think he will end up playing at AFL level?
Has Tyson been producing this form all year? He oozes class. Looks exactly like the inside/outside type we need.

Crozier is very hard to place, he has all the tools to be a very good player, he is fast, agile, a big vertical leap, reasonable crumber and reads play quite well. I have doubts over his endurance, this should improve when he enters an AFL system.

When I say he has reasonable footy smarts, I mean in the sense of crumbing he is a pretty good crumber. He would be a good forward I think, capable over head and can crumb as well, similar to Dale Thomas up forward. Will he play midfield in the future, perhaps. He can tackle and has shown that he has the potential IMO to win clearances. He is probably a long term project and will take a while.

But he has the ability to play midfield, but I am unsure if he will infact make the transition. Still could be a talented yet inconsitent forward, who will kick maybe a goal a game but fade in and out of games.

Big Risk IMO

Sorry if this has been asked, but under what conditions do you get a priority pick, and what pick would it be for us if we got one?
Thanks.

Fewer than 16.5 points in a season gets a priority pick between first and second round (after any end of first round compensation picks).

Fewer than 16.5 points per season for two seasons gets a priority pick before the first round.

So two more wins (against, say, Adelaide and GC) would mean the club doesn't get a priority pick.

does anyone know whether Mitchell Pert is a reasonable chance to get drafted father/son next year.

if he is as versatile as his old man, he will be a cracker.

let's hope if we are, that he wants to come to brisbane & he doesn't do a marc murphy.

Ok this could be tanking at its finest.

So what if we tank this year get an end of first round pick, then also lose clark for a band 2 compensation.

So we get 4 top 30 picks.

Next year we come last, use the clark compo pick and a first round priority pick.

So we get in 2012 picks 1,2 and 3.

Now that is melbournesque

Except if the Suns get a priority pick this year and next (ie two years of 4 wins)?

Hehe, yeah, I'd considered that scenario. Not good for the game, is it?

"Unfortunately" it would take a mighty effort to come last next year methinks.

GC would screw things up on two fronts.

ETA: Beaten.

No I think GC will improve next year, should defs get more than 4 wins easy as their kids mature. Depending on who GWS get as far as mature age recruits i think they will come close to last. Port are also an option, Our kids will improve but i cant see our veterans getting better. Although I am still of the belief that we will turn it round like West Coast have.

It is really bad for the game

Inside Footy Top twelve from this weeks issue...

Has the Lions taking Elton which makes sense if Clark heads to GWS. There arent too many quality tall forwards on the Lions list outside of Browny and Elton would be a virtual replacement for Clark as he can also ruck.

I've got GC penciled in for 4 or 5 wins next year and playing finals in '13, although that may change if they manage to leverage their off-casts this year for another decent mature-ager or two.

As for the Lions, we'll see how the offseason goes, but I'd imagine a finish anywhere between 13th and 7th next year.

An interesting interview with Crows recruiter Matthew Rendell here.

As an aside, he mentions that he didn't bother speaking with Polec cos he assumed he'd be long gone by the crows pick.

We need a'lot this draft, I would love to be able to pick up a Tall Forward and Defender, also a very fast midfielder and we going to need another Ruckman if Clark goes, otherwise I wouldn't mind seeing Retzlaff also train with that group, especially over the pre season if Clark goes and it would add something new to his game.
