I don't think we can doubt the need for KPP. I reckon it will depend in what is around when or pick is ready to be taken. I would certainly be all for a KPP at our first pick

Especially if that was seen to be a bloke that could develop into a tall, chunky, strong, fast, natural back half player.

We need a Full Back and a Centre half back, and a midfielder with lot's of speed.

Hoskin-Elliot, Kavanagh or Tyson would add an extra dimension to our midfield

Not sure there's enough quality in the KPP stocks to justify the use of an early first rounder

There is no doubt Polec will feature in our team as a quick outside mid in the future, I think we need a genuine inside/outside mid, a well rounded player. The need for talls is just as pressing, but I don't think we should burn our first pick on a tall if there isn't a good option there, ie, we shouldn't take an end of first round tall early just because we need talls. If there aren't many good prospects in this years draft, I'd rather see is go for mids and aim for talls next year.

Basically I think I've managed to say we should go best available the long way lol. If we end up with a surplus of mids, it just opens the door to trading for our needs in later years.

I have to agree with Chopperduck. I don't want us overpaying for a player just because he fits a need. Look at the 01 super draft. How would you feel, if to address a need for talls, your team overlooked Hodge/Judd for Mcpharlin. Best available with our first pick and then maybe target a tall with our second pick.

From the look of this draft, outside of Patton there are no real standout talls. A few talls will be worth the risk with a pick in the 20's or later but not in the top ten which is where our first pick will likely be.

Nice list. We don't really lose with what mid we take with our first rounder. They all have great strengths. The way i see it is..

Mitchell Grigg (SA) - Grigg is probably the first player i'd pick in the draft if he'll be available at our pick. He's literally a clone of Rich, great contestant ball winning/ clearance specialist type midfielder while at the same time his outside work is first rate. His left foot kick is a weapon and can break any defense up and he's known to kick goals which is a massive plus.

Liam Sumner (VIC) - The only thing holding him back of becoming an elite mid is his consistency. Liam is an outside midfielder but his ability to escape out of large packs won't go unnoticed. His a very smooth and athletic type mover and will always have that extra second to think about what to do with the ball. He provides great run and carry to the team and his agility is definitely a strength to his game and his disposal is very damaging. This kid has plenty of X factor.

Shane Kersten (WA) - We lack a power forward after Brown and Shane could possibly replace the massive hole he'll leave. He's a tall forward to is very quick on the lead and super strong overhead and on top of that he's a very accurate kick on goal. Out performed Darling last year as an underage kid but has been injured so far this season. If we want to take a risk with our first rounder i'd be very happy if we pick him because he'll probably not be there when our compo pick in on (pick 27).

imo players like Michael Talia, Brody Mihocek and Jordan Lockyer will be available with our second round pick and that's when we can pick them.

Every club in the comp is probably saying this but our first pick needs to have very good to elite foot skills.

I think we're in a good position, to be honest, in terms of our first pick. We could take any of a forward-ruck, pure tall forward, clearance mid, running mid, taller wingman, half back flanker, goal kicking small forward, tall defender etc and we would be adding to an area of need on our list. We probably don't need any more "accumulators" like Rockliff and Redden, nor would we use our first pick on a pure ruckman but, other than that, we can probably choose whoever takes our fancy with the first pick, knowing that we have a few other highish picks to get the balance right.

Is anyone interested in Andrew Lovett? Not saying that we should pick him up but was just proved not guilty and might have a few good years left in him. If we can pick him up with a late pick and on a low salary then he may be worth looking at. Thoughts?

By the way one interesting option would be to trade GWS for Ben Brown if we're looking at him, similar to how we got Bewick.

Pretty sure he can't be taken under the same rule. He played u18s as an overage player this year and I think that would rule him out.

For the mature forwards what about Lee Spurr. Come on more again in the SANFL this year. Would be able to play AFL for sure. Will have mark of the year in the SANFL. He grew up in Qld and you would have to think would not be against coming back for a shot at the big time.
