Pretty sure he can't be taken under the same rule. He played u18s as an overage player this year and I think that would rule him out.

For the mature forwards what about Lee Spurr. Come on more again in the SANFL this year. Would be able to play AFL for sure. Will have mark of the year in the SANFL. He grew up in Qld and you would have to think would not be against coming back for a shot at the big time.

I thought Spurr was a HBF?

I was watching Foxtel Cup the other day Quigs, Milera from Port Adelaide looks a handy small forward. Very small frame but he can run and kick, two things we lack. Rankine from one of the other SANFL clubs (forget which one) also looked handy in the same role.

The small forward role is up for grabs. Banfield is a natural wingman so I think it is certainly a need we have to address later in the draft. Maric's younger brother also caught my eye earlier in the year. Not sure if he is on the radar but is a natural around goals - very small though.

What about Leigh Ryswk, played a game for us about 5 seasons ago, apparently tore it up last year in the SANFL, we need to find a mature player 23 to 27 who can step in an add to our midfield straight away.

not likely...but Pfeiffer is now a real standout in the sanfl and showing all that talent he was drafted for back in the day. He will get drafted and would be a great cheap get for us

Is Marusic on anyone's radar ?

Haven't been reading any prospect material but saw him on the TAC show a few weeks back.Tall quick running back with skills.Looked like Leppitsch/Bock.
He should probably clean up his facebook page too

What type of player would people prefer for our first round pick this year?

Pacey, linebreaking skillful outside/inside player?

IMO this year the mids have talent but are not as proven as in previous years, they lack consistency.

Given what I've read about the draft, that key position wise it's not that strong, but midfield wise it's not bad but the player's are shorter than the "ideal" midfield size. (Don't know how correct that is).

Personally I'd prefer an outside midfielder with pace and skill. Inside ability ideally, but you can't have everything. Sumner or Hoskin-Elliot sound good for me personally (just from what I've read).

As for KPD, the main name I've seen so far is Talia, around mid-late first round, might be a reach at our pick. Anyone have any rumours to spread about Talia so he might slide? :)

The way the game is changing it is hard to gauge if a young key position player is going to make it. Unless there is a complete package deal available (which you would probably need picks 1-3 to get) I would be looking at the best midfielder available and take our chances with a KP down the draft a bit. Also we've wasted our first round pick on talls previously - different people picking I know- but as I said picking talls is a bit of a hit and miss it would seem.

With our first pick i think we will go best available Hopefully Dom Tyson is available would love this bloke at the club but I can see him going pick 4-6

I would be going With either Matthew Buntine, Brad McKenzie or Dom Tyson with our first pick.

then I would draft 3 or so talls. such as Jackson Paine(KPF), Andrew Bosley(KPD) and Jai Sheenan(KPF) have a look at Knightmare's mock draft for info about these players. I would also consider taking Dayne Zorko in the rookie draft.

A KPP, but given the dearth of them at the top-end, probably as you described.

Crozier. But just because the only footage I've seen of any of the draftees was that mark.

For me this draft has to be about KPP's due to the unknowns around our spine. Realistically we may need to replace FF, CHF & CHB in the next few years. Of course we are all hoping that one of the kids currnetly on the list can fill those roles but its still a big unknown.

I would be wrapped if we walked away with our to three picks being:

Todd Elton
Sam Gordon
Michael Bussey

Its a bit of a shotgun approach to drafting but if two of the three stuck, this draft could really shore up our spine for a decade.

I still think that we need to look at some of the mdifielders on our list at the moment before starting to recylce. Players like Green, Polec, Harwood, O'Brien, Golby Bewick & Dyson need oppurtunites to show what they can do.

The amount of talk about how weak this draft is making me actually not look forward to it for once. It's starting to sound like if you don't have a pick in the top 5 then you are only getting the value of a second rounder in another year. I find it hard to believe that one group of draftee's can be rated so much lower than others in the past. Hopefully closer to the draft people start talking it up a bit.

Bear in mind both the media and BF are pretty much echo chambers, with 90% of those commenting (myself included) having no idea about the depth of said draft. Instead they just repeat what they heard once. While a number of people have said it's a weak draft, I've also heard that the top 30 are all pretty reasonable talents and that there's still plenty of talent in state leagues that can be taken late. And then you've got this: "The draft is going to be a great story for GWS because it appears that by the early reports that I've got, that the youngsters coming through in this year's draft are probably better than the crop that went to the Gold Coast."

But that was Demetriou, so take that with a pinch of salt. Or maybe a pillar or two of salt.

Irel (I think) has a theory that the continuing improvement in the development pathways, the talent spotting by clubs and the general standard of underage footy means that we're unlikely to have genuinely bad draft years. I guess that this year could, relative to last year and next year, be of a lesser standard but I don't think we'll return to the bad old days of the top 30 only turning out a few decent footballers. This system is too sophisticated for that to occur.

Yep. How many of us last year (including me) thought "Karnezis... pick 25... wtf Hadley... he is going at pick 60 in phantom drafts... what are you doing".

I've realised that the "BigFooty recruiters" are posting on BigFooty for a reason, and the club recruiters are recruiting for clubs for a reason.

Haha If anyone remembers I was raging on BigFooty because we got him with 25 over Darling. Now he is one of my favs.

That.
That said, a couple of the people who I do bother reading have said similar things, outside the top 25-30 there's not all that much that they've seen.
I took that to mean clubs are probably going to be looking left-field a bit earlier on, similar to last year ( Karnezis to you guys, Steinberg to us, Horlin Smith to the Cats).
Isn't always necessarily a bad thing, there's just going to be a few more smokies.
Few of the smokies come good, every year - Mike Ross looks a good thing for us, and he was pick 10083205098.

You carry on every year on draft day, Karnezis, Josh Thomas, & the old favourite that I can't even be bothered mentioning anymore.

People you want to see TBD carry on like a Pork Chop be here draft day, its an annual event. You seen Groundhog Day?

Almost makes up for the loss of Guy Fawkes Night, well perhaps not quite, but it is bloody funny........... Brisbane Lions..........Player Number 284393263...............AHHHH FAWKKK, the keyboard cops a pounding & off go the crackers. :thumbsu:

& If we don't draft a Queenslander there is a multiplying factor.
