A throw away line at the bottom of the Patton article today in the Age "Jackson Starcevich (Queensland). Son of Craig, a fairly raw key position prospect. Will play as a tall forward."

Craig probably didnt play enough games with the Bears to be eligible for us under Father son. the Age says he is tied to the Woods. Anything known? Just grasping at straws. Any possiblity he could do a "Murphy" and go in the draft so he could stay in his home state? Any possibility we can get credit for Craig's long service as runner and fitness advisor?

Will be eating falafel with Folau, sure as my a**e points at the ground. And the way we are looking with JB back, I doubt we will get a top 10 pick.

Got to say thats dissapointing. Even if we picked up the spoon we would still only get pick what? 3 or 4? I guess our only hope is that we start some rumor about him being a drunk and starting fights. Does anyone know what the order of the picks will be come draft time? EG:

Pick 1 - Giants Regardless
Pick 2 - Giants Regardless
Pick 3 - Giants Regardless
Pick 4 - 17th placed team
Pick 5 - 16th placed team
Pick 6 - 15th placed team ...etc etc?

Quite sure it's the same as what GC got, so more like
1 - GWS
2 - GWS
3 - GWS
4 - 17th placed side
5 - GWS
6 - 16th placed side
7 - GWS
8 - 15th placed side etc. etc.

If you pick up the spoon you get pick 4.

Doubt it, Murphy was quite sure he'd end up back at home because Victorian teams had the first 7 picks in that draft. I'd think he's off to the pies under father-son.

GWS draft concessions

2. 2011 NAB AFL Draft:
Team GWS to have Pick No.1 in each round.
Team GWS to have Picks 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 in round one. Please note that these selections have priority over any other special assistance/priority selections which may be available to other clubs, as per the rule that applies to the Gold Coast FC for the 2010 Draft.

Is it bad that I'm only outraged at that prospect because we are in a position where if we came last we would only score pick 4. Compared to teams like Melbourne/Carlton/Collingwood who got picks 1 + 2 for coming last like 5 years ago. Maybe that just goes to prove how stupid that system was.

Back on topic, so at the moment I would be saying we would be finishing somewhere between 4th last and 5th last, giving us pick 10 or 12. Is there any key forwards who might be available at that point in the draft? Or should we be pinning more hopes on snaring delisted GCS players?

Twnety games only for us. He's a potential father/son for Collingwood, but we could always sign him up for our academy if he wants to stay in Queensland and he lives in our zone. Is there age restrictions on that?

The chances of us getting him are pretty low but if we trade out first round pick and out 2nd round/compo he'd probably get a high enough pick. But if Hadley has his sights on a different KPF i'd be more than happy to draft him and give him a chance.

You wouldn't be alone in thinking that about how little we get out of the draft when we are rebuilding. Unless Sydney loses 2 quality players to GWS this year, we are the biggest losers in the AFL's expansion. I can't see us getting out of the bottom 5 this year despite 2 wins in a row, we will most likely end up with pick 8, 10 or 12. IIRC Lynch was pick 11 or 13 and he's showed some very good signs for a first year KPP so if we were looking at a KPP someone of that quality would be very handy to have.

I wonder if we actually need a KPP with our first round draft pick? Prior to the season starting I would say that is the no. 1 priority for us with drafting but if we are to see what happened with our forward line against Adelaide happen consistently for the rest of the year then I think we have enough potential to focus on other areas. We have Staker about to return, Acorn and Karnezis are kicking goals regularly in the reserves and then next year we will have Lester back and then there is the bonus if McKeever can keep improving and eventually break into the side. Our clearances is the biggest problem so at this stage I think that needs to be what our first draft pick needs to be used on.

I don't like the idea that Clark and Leuenberger are our only real ruckman on the list and Clark is already being used as a CHF. When we were at our best we had Keating, Mcdonald and Charman. It sounds like Charmo will retire (sorry 3KZ!) and McCauley refused at times to kick the ball the other week, if he was an 18 year old that would be fine but he's in his mid 20's and should be a lot more confident in his kicking. I think we should get a ruckman with either one of our later picks in the draft or one of the rookie picks if there is someone still around.

If Charmo retires then I think that we will definitely bring at least one ruckman into the squad and not necessarily with a throwaway draft pick. If Charmo comes good, then we could still do with a ruck on the rookie list, if Big Bart cannot get his body right.

I think we would look at a ruck option on our rookie list either way. If we are going to draft a young one, we would need to get it happening soon. We could even go a kpf/ruck type player as well. Rucks need to be able to rest forward these days anyway.

We have no business getting upset because we're bottoming out now, when the drafts are compromised.

We've needed to construct a new team since the end of 2004. We should be able to see a top four team emerging at this stage, instead of needing to rebuild from scratch again.

I apologize for my comments. After our period of extended success I must say I fell off the football bandwagon for some time and have only been really getting back into it the last couple of seasons. My personal treason of not keeping in touch during that period, I probably shouldn't complain about poor recruiting when I wasn't even keeping up with our team.

After the last 3 years of successful picks I think that I will simply have faith in Hadley picking us the best pick needed for our team.

What are the chances of us getting Alex Sexton from QLD? GC get first crack IIRC?
He is already playing for them in the ressies I think and they seem to have their eye on him. They get first crack at the Qld kids for the next two years I think which is a bugger. I am thinking though that they might not take all that many.

They already have a lot of highly rated kids in the club. They have to reduce their list progressively over the next few years to prune it back to normal list size. Whilst doing that they will also be getting high draft picks which they have to weigh up against the Qld kids.

With that said I expect Sexton to be one they do take. I also rate Kolka but think they might not take him given the sheer number of good ruck prospects they already have. Taking Kolka would seem nonsensical.

Exactly Quigs. Even though the GC get first serve of QLD kids, they already have a full plate. There will be plenty of good kids cut by GC as well, just by the sheer number of picks they have. We should be there waiting to mop up some of these kids, especially the local ones that don't have that go home factor.

The probability of a end of first round priority pick (4 wins max) that was there a few weeks ago seems to be barely a possibility now...in fact we could be looking at a first round pick as high as 12 or later which is making the decision to use an end of round 1 compensation pick look better.

I am not getting carried away with the 2 wins but Port,Kangaroos,Suns,Melbourne and Adelaide are all showing signs of being candidates for bottom 4 at this stage...that might change but we are going to meet four of them.

Exactly my thoughts Old Den. Would be a shame to miss out on an extra pick, because we do still need the best picks we can get, but at the same time, it's good to see the team playing at the level they are capable of. It's a love/hate situation atm. I was happy enough to take a bottom 4 spot this year, knowing we are rebuilding and looking at another top 10 pick, plus priority pick and our compo pick, then our round 2 pick, making this draft look very similar to last year in terms of picks for us. But i love a win, and will be hoping we are singing the song come tomorrow night.

Will get snapped up by GC. Played with their reserves on the weekend and collected 20 touches, Shaun Hart was very impressed. They will almost certainly take Sexton and Allen. Quite a few others who are up to it, just not sure how many GC can take given how much talent they already have.

Pretty sure Scott Clayton said on AFL Insiders a couple of weeks ago that they were going to wipe off 8 players from their senior list this year.

And there will be quite a few Qld boys on that list. The like of Lock, Moss, Stanlake, Thompson, Daye, Liddy might be on the chopping block. There's one or two who might be worth having a closer look at.

How long is the contract of the priority selected 17 year olds like Toy, Weller, Matera etc? Presumably they have another year to go?
