I agree with 3KZ that we want depth, but I'd pass on having two elite ruckmen if it meant we missed out in other positions.

That is key. I think we have greater deficiences on the list that our back up ruckman.

If you look at Sydney, St Kilda, Hawthorn, Collingwood, etc you can always pick up a 2nd ruckman via the trade table when you have a list that is close to being in contention for a flag.

If a Clark trade involves Freo's first pick this year, possibly 12, I can see us being in a very good position considering the compromised draft. A Grigg/Hoskin-Elliot and Elton in the first round would be a great outcome.

I have a feeling we won't pick up Grigg, we have plenty of quality inside mids in Rich, Redden, Polkinghorne and Rockliff but not many outside mids who can run, carry and break the lines. A Hoskin-Elliot or Sumner would be a perfect fit. If Clark were to leave to Freo and we receive their first rounder getting both of them would be a massive win for the club imo. Another possible recruit for us could be Buntine who is a half back flanker. With Drummond's injuries, Mcgrath's forward/midfield roles we don't exactly have many players who can play that HBF position well. It'll also allow Adcock to play a bit more time in the midfield.

With our PP, compo and 2nd round picks i'd focus on talls. Talia, Kersten, Dobosz, Mihocek and Boseley will probably be available and hopefully we take a few.

Interesting to hear during the commentary last night when talking about each team's needs going into the draft that Roos said something along the lines of 'you draft based on talent and trade for needs'. I think it is more applicable for early draft picks but is a very interesting comment.

I don't see the point in taking a tall in the First Round. We aren't in desperate need for them just yet. I think this year should be about Mids and HFF and HBF and go for KPP's next year. If we do get Pick 12 from Freo I would love to get Will Hoskin-Elliot at Pick 8 and Matt Buntine at Pick 12. That would be perfect for us! Our picks in the 20's and 30's can be used on KPP's and then next year we can draft more KKP's in the First round.

Geez Knightmare's latest mock is pretty handy (especially if we include Freo's possible pick 12 for Clark as well)-

Pick 8 WHE (fast outside mid)
Pick 12 Todd Elton (KPP/Ruck)
Pick 29 Myles Bolger (Ruck)
Pick 30 Julian Dobosz (KPF)
Pick 34 Andrew Boseley (KPD)
Pick 52 Ben Brown (KPF/Ruck)
Pick 70 Dayne Zorko (Mid/Fwd)

Considering Quigley prefers Elton as a CHB (in the BigFooty Phantom Draft trial run), there's a spine, along with a developing ruck and two very handy mids. Would be a massive win if that was the outcome.

Even though this draft is meant to be a little light on KP talent, as talls take longer to come on than smalls an argument could be made for outfitting the majority of our KPP this year rather than next. As always it may be determined who's still available at our picks, and we fill in the gaps next year

(I know the season only finishes today, but I love draft time during a rebuild when there's an abundance of picks and a quality recruiter).

interesting if we do get freos pick 12 if the Lions will quietly plan to snatch longer if GWS let him slide? We culd then still get a quality running with pick 12? ;)

wow...we just keep getting more quality picks. Should be a great 2 seasons coming up watching some talent come through

Probably isn't a bad idea to go for some good tall options if available in this draft. Last year we went some utility types with Karni and Lester, and they decided to go Green over a tall, so you could assume we might go for some talls this time around. It's certainly a good list of talls there, and we still get another quick mid.

With Beams, Bartlett and Polec still to make their mark on the team, we have a few quicker mids to work their way into the team. Add a WHE to the list and i think we would be sitting pretty good for 2012 in terms of mids. It will be important to get some talls into our team to start developing, as our current crop of talls aren't setting the world on fire.

If we got freos first pick I would be taking dobosz. A great young prospect who i think could go top 15

My preference for a mid would be an outside/in player - from the commonly mooted names available around our first pick WHE seems to best fit that bill.

Looks like Freo will end up with 14 if the Tiges get up, or 16 if North win. Talia might be a reach at that pick, but I'd be sorely tempted.

even if Talia is available at pick 16 I would be going with Dobosz he is my new Ben Jacobs haha.

Coad delisted by GC. He has had a shocking run with injuries this year which has really prevented him from getting any kind of run at it. I would definately consider giving him a rookie list spot if he wanted to stay in Qld.

Have they announced all their deslistings yet? Saving some for trade week I assume...

Just wondering in regards to the GWS 17 YO mini draft, if say Omeara or Kennedy (from Glenelg) don't get traded for this season will they just enter the 2012 draft as normal draft candidates? If so then wont this be beneficial for GWS to trade these guys this season as they will only have one selection in the first round of 2012?

If many of these trades are done it could affect the quality at the top end of the supposed 2012 super draft..

:D I think Dom meant if anyone knows of any draftees in particular we are interested in come pick 8. It is a bit early to gauge what our recruiting dept may want but we, as supporters, have started to find out who we prefer. Dom Tyson, and Hoskin-Elliot are two who are being mentioned quite often and they look like players who can complement our team very well with their style of play. Wouldnt mind either of them at this stage.
