I would like the lions to draft a kid who is going to be a solid tough nut in the mould of brad/chris scott. A strong tackler, someone who can worry the opposition. We really need a guy to add this to the side

yeah quigs, i thought of harwood, dont think he has the aggressive nature of the scott brothers, thats what i would like to see. He definitely physically fits the mould.

I know we obviously won't be in the market for him, but is Albert Proud back in the frame for any AFL clubs. He reportedly started the NEAFL season strongly. How did he finish it?

Got in AFLQ team of the year, will win his club B + F by a mile. Finished the season as strongly as he started it. IMO whether he makes his way back onto an AFL list depends not on his football ability (which i think he has what it takes to make it), but more so on whether his mind is in the right place ie not abusing a cop on new years eve

Thanks for that.

Will be mixed emotions if he goes to another club and tears it up. But geez it would be a massive risk for us to take another chance on him.

i know a lot of people will say hell no to this but does anyone reckon Marc Lock is a worthy pick up in the pre season draft???

I, for one, would support it - with strict conditions. Not 1 drink etc. IMO he has done his penance & knowing his background am prepared to offer him a rookie lifeline - one last chance if he is serious. Thought we were a considerably better team last yearc with him tearing out of the forward pocket.

As I reported this time last year, when living in Brisbane, Albert really impressed with his dedication to training, both when it was his "off-season" and also the additional sessions he was doing outside compulsory Lions sessions. Having chatted to him, I was sure he was on the cusp of turning his career around, despite the demotion to rookie status, but I was bitterly disappointed that he let himself down with the transgression that led to his dismissal.

I would love to see Albert at the Lions, however, I just couldn't see it happening. I do hope he is given and grasps another opportunity should one be afforded to him.

Geez with Mitch on the way out and Staker out for all of 2012. Our already poor stock of talls has become wafer thin.

Staker's absence would have created a good opportunity to fasttrack a young tall down back... if we had one.

Would be a very happy man if Lester managed to grow 3-4 centimetres in the off-season.

Joel Houghton delisted by Freo, 194cm forward taken two years ago at pick 36. I'm assuming Freo will probably pick him up as a rookie, but if they don't, has anyone seen anything of him? Worth a rookie list spot?

Very surprised they delisted him but they have to rookie list him mainly because they have no KPF after Pav, Bradley etc. The guy knows how to take a big mark.

Meeting Needs

Brisbane Lions NAB AFL Draft selection No.8
With Luke Power's retirement and Simon Black in his twilight years, a midfielder is on the agenda. There should still be several prime candidates available at this point, but prolific Oakleigh Chargers ball winner Toby Greene would sit nicely alongside the likes of Daniel Rich, Jared Polec and Tom Rockliff. Greene just knocks up getting possessions, loves the tough stuff and can think his way through contested situations. He's not super-quick, but he will often buy himself time by making opponents believe he's going one way then slipping a handball off elsewhere.

Dandenong Stingrays' Matthew Buntine is another who would sit comfortably in this range. He's the best reader of the play in the draft and his creativity coming out of the back half will be an asset for whichever team nabs him for the next decade.

Here's what I think we should do assuming we lose Clark

Couple pick 14/16 and/or Band 2/3 compo pick, with our existing unused compo pick, and try and get pick 4.

If as is speculated, gold coast trade pick 4 for a selection in the mini-draft, GWS may be more amenable to trading pick 4 or 5.

The prospect of getting Wingard, Tyson or Hoskin-elliot, while retaining pick 8, would be huge

Do you need two elite ruckmen on your list? If we take Longer, we're selecting the best ruck of his age. We did that in 2006 which isn't that long ago. If Longer develops as a quality ruck, then we've got a lot of talent as a second stringer.

I agree with this, I think we should either go something like the Griffin route Freo went (he was pretty solid this year when Sandi was out) while developing McCauley and using Clark as a ruck-forward. Just get someone who's a little on the outer at their club but reasonably experienced as insurance if we want a ruckman, I think our backline is more pressing currently.

If Clark stays I think he can still pinch hit in the ruck up forward with McKeever helping out down back, so as long as Leuey doesn't go down we shouldn't need to get someone as possibly expensive as Longer. If he does bringing McCauley in right away wouldn't be ideal, but Clark could shoulder some of the weight.

Rookie spot for Coad perhaps?
