Longer played as a KPF at the Champs last year and did very well.

He has excellent straight line speed and can create separation and is probably the best contested mark of any tall in the draft this year. This is a guy who will contest and will give you shots at goal if you are playing him up forward.

His kicking for goal (and his kicking in general) is pretty ordinary though and is something which needs to improve. With that said if Cloke can improve as much as he has there is no reason why Longer can't.

He will be a better ruck probably than key position but he will be a very solid key position playing behind someone like Leuey in the ruck and he will create all kinds of problems for the backs. We would just need to get a better mosquito fleet buzzing around to collect the spillages.

If he is there at 8 I take him and don't even blink twice. He is a very big talent and has a higher ceiling at less risk than any of the others likely to be there. I can't see him getting past Port at 6 but you never know.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this player, but would he be eligible for the draft? And is there a chance that Lions might pick him up?

We need some genuine X-factor, and this player seems to have gotten it. Any thoughts? :thumbsu:

Next year. One of those eligible for the minidraft I think, but not mentioned as a common option.

Exactly I seen him as a forward and he Impressed me. If we improved Clarks kicking we surely could get his kicking more accurate. If he was at #8 Im sure we would take him.

My Dream Draft:
1). (no. 8) Will Hoskin-Elliot (Line breaking wingman with speed to burn + 60m kick on him, 190cm/76kg)
Freo's Pick for Mitch Clark (no.16) Brad McKenzie (Superboot-best kick in the draft, a handy replacement if Drummond gets injured, which is all the time and can play midfield or back flank and the size as Drummo is well, 188cm/75kg)
2). (no. 29) Myles Bolger (good tap ruckman, 201cm/87kg)
3). (no. 30) Jackson Paine if available or Julian Dobosz (leading forwards who both kicked bags of goals, 193cm/87kg)
4). (no. 34) Sam Kerridge (Chris Judd/Dustin Martin type player who dominates in clearances and contested ball and can go forward. Has a very consistent season and was very, very unlucky to be chosen by Vic Country, 188cm/88kg all-ready made player)
5). (no. 52) Jackson Coleman (197cm/87kg)/ Fletcher Roberts (197cm/84kg) /Ben Brown (199cm/91kg) (Forward/Ruckman. Any of this guys will be good in that particular order if available.
6). (no. 70) Henry Schade (Best KPP defender for Tasmania, 194cm/75-80kg. The player will be rookie listed)

Caught up with some blokes who are involved with the QLD U18 side and talent identification over the weekend. I'm not sure if it's relevant to Brisbane, but they mentioned that Wingard could turn out to be the best out of this year's crop.

Also for those interested in the local lads, almost all of the serious inquiries for QLD'ers is coming from Victoria.

Thanks TLL.

Interesting to see with the rise and rise of Tyson, the former "top 3 lock" Wingard seems to be the one slipping back. It would be nice to have a replay of the Rich scenario, but I won't be holding my breath. ;)

I think Wingard had some injuries (Hamstring?) which may have set him back this season. The Sturt coach has said that he he is the equal of Trengove and possibly could be better. Plays inside and outside. I would be over the moon if Brisbane could pick him. He'd be the perfect Black replacement. Hopefully Port takes Longer and Wingard can somehow slide to pick 8.

What's the big knock on Wingard, is it just injuries?

I saw one of his games at the champs and he was very impressive.

Unintentionally funny choice of words as I believe one of the (minor) concerns over him is that he's too courageous for his own good. He's been concussed quite a few times already.

Any potential "slip" though is obviously only pure conjecture at the moment, and there's virtually no chance he'll fall as far as the Lions.

He got a serious concussion against ... vic country iirc and didn't play the next month and lost form because of it. This was just after the Stevens retirement also so i'm guessing clubs are very careful now.

Saying that Dyson has been killing it.

Interesting. I guess it's quite hard to get a gauge on the damage at that age.

Emma Quayle seems to be mentioning Tyson at 3 more and more often. She mentioned in her article today that it could come down to Tyson's 20m sprint time. It's unhealthy to think that without GWS we would be talking about who the Lions would be choosing out of these two.

Whatever happens it certainly looks like there will be some good talent come our pick 8.

But have they been declared as being used, this year?

They should have put a 'subject to change' or even 'expected to change' disclaimer on it but AFAIK it's still correct as it stands

It's wrong bra.

You don't declare priority picks. You use them in the year you get them.
