Sorry dude, but these kind of categorical statements are my biggest gripe about this place (and the internet in general).I know it's your opinion, but I hate it when it's presented as fact. Truthfully, you surely cannot know for certain?
I might be slow...but why all the sudden is the pick 8 talk happening? was there a press release regarding it that I missed?![]()

The science of drafting is improving all the time. That is a pretty solid group over the past 5 years. I still think Tippett holds his own by comparison but that list surprises me in terms of the success rate of pick 8s.
So if we somehow ended up with Tippet and Beams, but no early 1st round picks, (maybe also missing one of our end rd/compo pick also) are we doing the right thing for our long term future?
Sure both these guys are reasonably young, but is that what we really need? I can't see at all what I think is best, and no doubt I'm sure the club will also have a lot to think about....no go home factor and (sort of) proven potential Vs ???? (Hoskin-Elliot sounds pretty tempting...).
I'll back my judgment and say that all 5 of those will play 200 games, injuries permitting.I reckon the list will look worse in 5 years time. The downside takes longer to present in players than the upside.
People, including myself, focus on the upside (eg. a chance to get the next Bartell!!!!) but if you average it all out a 24 year old Tippett is an above average result.
I wouldn't have thought that their energies will be directed too much at the 1st pick. The late 20s and early 30s picks are where we'll win or lose in this year's draft.and by the look at the resources the lions are putting into draft week/camp I doubt they will start trading out picks, and especially the first one.

I just really want us to head into this draft with a top 10 pick...just how I feel
How much of that is not wanting to miss out on the Christmas-day like feel of draft day though?
The off-season period is about improving the list, you look at all opportunities.
What if we take 3 talls in this draft and they are all busts. Then we find ourselves with a gun midfield in 4 years with no one to kick it to. Really don't think we're in a position to be passing up known quality (if we can get it at a fair price).
I agree, but remember we have Mitch Clark leaving Via trade who has the same trade value as tippet...I just think there is no need to be putting our pick 8 on the table.
If we lose pick 8 and Mitch clark for Tippet and pick 16, I just dont see how that is improving our list
Mitch is gone regardless. Remove him from the equation and it makes more sense.
Also, IMO, in terms of trade value, Contracted Kurt > Uncontracted Mitch.
No way in hell is Tippett worth pick 8. Didn't sit through a crap season to throw away pick 8 on an inconsistent bloke who has some 'potential'.
His brother had potential also and we all no how that turned out
Aren't draft picks nothing but potential?
And in three years Tippett will still be 27/28Getting Tippett in is like instant gratification but I think keeping pick 8 will add to a longer lasting organic journey.I'm prepared to wait 3 years to make the finals again.
Anyway, should just wait for 12 months when he's uncontracted and confirmed his homesickness. And in three years Tippett will still be 27/28
Personally, I am perfectly fine with getting Tippett with pick 8, and I am perfectly fine keeping it. I can see the benefits of both, and it really doesn't bother me either way.
