Carlton haven't committed to Dylan Buckley as a f/s. Would lol if he became our Marc Murphy if we were to draft him.

edit - Buckley said he's happy to make it on his own or something like that.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/124798/default.aspx

CARLTON, Geelong and the Sydney Swans have all nominated players they wish to take under the father-son rule at this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Buckley's value is less clear given his struggles with injury, but it is likely he will cost the Blues their second-round draft pick at least.

as mentioned before our ruck stocks are low. Ben Brown would be a good solution to this. why dont we trade for him with GWS as he is a "pre-listed" player instead of risking it in the draft - like offer pick 52 or something like that for his services

Just out of interest, does anyone know when Kerr became head of recruiting?

Because since 2008, our drafting has been quite impressive.
Look at this list of players drafted,
2008
8. Rich
25. Redden
41. Banfield
57. Cornelius
69. McCulloch
81. King

With the exception of Savage (75), McKenzie (Rookie), Garlett (Rookie) also potentially a few other ones I may have missed. It's hard to consider changing our picks in that draft.

2009
27. Bartlett (Will be good, when he's available to play....look for a Shuey-esque year in 2012)
47. Harwood
73. O'Brien

2010
5. Polec
25. Karnezis
28. Lester
32. Green
65. Beams

Look over these drafts if you want and have a look whether you would change anything....The polec-Heppel debate is rather pointless though as it will take a few years to really compare.

Judging by the past...I think Voss & the recruiting team is attempting to build our list through top 40 draft picks. Which does put a little more of my faith in him. If we can continue on the previous years drafting, I've got quite a bit of hope for our future.

I'd be open to us trading this years 3rd round (pick 52) for McGuane, he's 24, has played 84 games and would add KPD depth, which is handy, considering how hard it is to add experienced talls to your list.

Giving away a draft pick for an experienced player brings back visions of the nightmarish 2009 trade week, but this draft has absolutely no depth, so we'd probably get a player who would never make it to 84 AFL games anyway.

I also wouldn't mind us looking at Coad (delisted from GC) as a back up defensive option in the rookie draft, provided he can get his body right and get past those dodgy hammys.

Neagle would another avenue I'd be willing to explore but highly unlikely considering we already have Cornelius & Retzlaff waiting in the wings.

Aside from that, I think we should just plunder what we can for Clark, hopefully no player over the age of 24, and a top 20 pick. I'd love to see Tippett somehow get involved, but I just don't see it happening.

Overall, lets draft the best possible players available with our picks, but also to a view of what our Round 1 team will be like in 2013.

Graham Hadley gets the credit for our drafting since 2008 (you forgot Rockliff in the PSD by the way!).

Kerr became list manager in 2010 and he does the contracts and trades. Hadley is still our drafting man.

What about this kid as a Drummond replacement? No one can really replace Drummond though.

From that small highlights video I could tell that he is unfit(perhaps a bit lazy as well) and he has awareness issues in traffic however he is hard at it, strong tackler, beautiful kick and is good in contests in the air and on the ground(he uses his body to his advantage). I wouldn't mind taking a punt on this kid with say pick 52 if he is around.

That is just my opinion from that very small highlights video however and those comments could all be completely off the mark.

I agree. Not entirely sure he's unfit, though, just seems a little uncoordinated in his movements - everything he tries to do works (in this video at least), but it doesn't look too sleek while he's doing it.

Wouldn't mind picking him up at all.

I don't WANT to give up pick 8 for him. I'd love to go into draft day with a top 10 pick just as I'd also like to pay 50 bucks for a new iPad. Unfortunately transactions are a two way process.

I still think you are coming unstuck at Clark = Tippett.

It's a fairly fair assessment but unfortunately due to a number of circumstances, namely that Mitch has had two poor years, is out of contract and has been quite vocal about his preferred destination, we aren't going to get his true value.

That doesn't mean that Adelaide are going to think "okay, Clark equals Tippett so whatever the Lions get for Clark is fair compensation for Kurt".

Both Clark and Tippett are worth a least a top 10 pick in this draft. Adelaide are simply find themselves in better circumstances to demand it.

mmm...so tippett and clark arent worth the same but they are??? :)

My point exactly. In Hadley, we trust. Give him picks and he doesn't let us down. He's probably rubbing his hands together with glee considering all the early picks, even if it's a poor draft.

I'm just hoping Kerr & Hadley put out a "hands off" notice next to all of our picks this week.

The last sentence of that quote provides the context. :thumbsu:

i.e. the difference in worth "in a vacuum" and worth in the circumstances.

Just throwing this out there.

Gavin Grose. Former Port listed player, this year won Mt Gravatt's B&F. I understand he's only 23. I'm not sure the process with recruiting mature aged players from comps like the NEAFL, but with our need for key defenders perhaps he is worth a look at. Was very impressed in the games I saw him play this year - he locked down almost everyone he was put on at FB. Also has great run and penetration in getting the ball out of defense.

Also a Qld'r, which doesn't hurt. Means he won't get any of that 'go home factor' nonsense. Seems a calculated, skilled player who has finally started to fulfill his potential.

Any chance?

I dont know much about him, but he may be up against quite a few players of similar age currently playing in the SANFL...in particular Aaron Day from Polecs old club the eagles. he plays CHB in the SANFL premiership winning team

I hope we investigate Travis Tuck, see where he is at, at times for the Hawks he showed plenty. He has the ability to win the ball inside and has a pretty good left foot kick. Like all the Tuck's he has a massive tank. Matura age Rookie or late pick if we feel he is right to go. Could be an absolute bargain and add to our midfield straight away with 7 or 8 years of service from him.

No thanks.

I would rather us focus on developing more outside runners

Really hope we give Blee a go, would fits our needs nicely.

My bio.

Nathan Blee
192 / 91 / 90
Recruited From: East Perth
Bio: Mature age player but he must be given a go after his terrific season in the WAFL. Despite his height he can do everything. Rarely gets beaten one on one, good closing speed for the leading forwards and skills are also very good and can provide good rebound. Was included in the WAFL team of the year.

Word is that there have been a few meetings with some of the players from the young guns game in Victoria. So we could be looking at some late draft//rookie smokeys.
