After the combine testing results Devon Smith has really stood out to me as a possibility for pick 8.

Good endurance, good repeat 30m sprint, clean hands, good standing vertical, decent pace and a proven goal kicker.

Would inject some pace into the midfield rotation (in time) and would appear to be a more than useful small forward whilst he develops.

yeah he is a interesting one, as he was a "lock in" top 10 pick at the start of the year. He looks like the slider bargain pick this year like Atley in 2010

Alot of people will be heading to Breakfast poin next year with GWS now having picks 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10,11 and they have a few more picks in the first round

Bit of speculation around these boards about who Brisbane are interested in.

Please don't take this as gospel and bear in mind that all clubs will be 'interested' in lots of players, but I've heard the Lions are right into Yeo & McGuiness from WA.

Also heard Zorko will most likely end up on a list in Victoria somewhere. Spurr (former QLD junior) is attracting a lot of interest after dominating SANFL GF. There is also significant interest in 3-4 NT Thunder players.

I can confirm that Brisbane have had several meetings with a young mobile ruckman in the Bendigo league. Unfortunately several other clubs are also sniffing around, in particular, Richmond.

In Hadley we trust.

Lee Spurr is the man we need! If one of our later picks is available we should select him.. From just watching the SANFL finals (a small sample size I know) he has the pace and dash off HB that would really benefit our team.. He is an athletic HBFer and reminds me alot of Tim Notting, taking on players by foot and seems to have quite a penetrating leg. Don't know what pick we would need to spend on him but this guy is only 24 and has an AFL ready body!

I think Spurr could be an option as part of the Luke Power trade to GWS. He has had interest from other clubs.

yep...Im sure the Lions just need to pick a youngster then get it signed off by GWS. They are obviously still making up their mind.

other guys worth a look...Zorko (obvious), Aaron Day (sanfl premiership winning CHB)

Whats Day like??

A real CHB would be great!!

Yeah was just testing the waters with Spurr but realized quite quickly how well he was rated overall. This article http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/lee-spurr-takes-aim-at-afl-mature-age-draft/story-fn525un5-1226163415275 indicates his interest as well. Although it is stated 'three or four' clubs are interested which IMO would be an understatement.. Seriously this guy has a perfect AFL build and could perform admirably at AFL level (ala Puopolo, Duigan). Would love a straight swap of Power for Spurr but not sure if it would get done?

I don't think there is much chance of us gaining Spurr as a pre-selected GWS player. They have already used up 8 of them and Emma Quayle said they are keeping the remaining two for Kennedy & Mohr.

Tim Harrington on SEN two mornings ago was asked about all the picks GWS have in the first 15. His comment was that because they have so many picks, they can afford to be a bit more adventurous and go for more "speculative" players. IE those that might take a year or two to develop.

End result is that a bit more ready now type players may slide in the first round. Could be handy for us if we manage to hang on to at least pick 8.

SOS was on TWR this morning and said they will just pick the best players available and then assess needs more a year or so down the track.

to an extent of course they wont pick the best 7 midfielders or best 7 talls for example otherwise they are joderwits

No, but they don't need to. In the 10 best players in the draft are probably a few KPP. But they will take the best available. To me, the top 10 players taken won't really change much no matter if it's GWS or other clubs taking them. The only difference is a player will go to GWS at pick 13 instead of pick 9 maybe.

looking at all the previous mocks floating around, this seems to be a fairly close consensus of the top ten (prior to trade week of course)....

Obviously some of these are needs based for the teams with their original picks.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out, and what GWS takes that now changes this...

1. Jonathon Patton
2. Stephen Coniglio
3. Dom Tyson
4. Matt Buntine
5. Billy Longer
6. Chad Wingard
7. Elliot Kavanagh
8. Will Hoskin-Elliot
9. Taylor Adams
10. Liam Sumner

If it works out like this both Us and Port would be stoked as we can pick up the players who we need the most (WHE and Wingard) IMO. Have a feeling though both may have risen a place or two in the order since combine though.

Chopper is 100% correct. By picking the best talent in top 10 there will be at least a few KPP in there. And with so many other picks they can take needs for player types more in consideration as the draft goes on depending how their list is shaping.

I hope we can still get pick 16 & Talia is available at this one. He seems like a great prototype to develop into an excellent KPD.

Yeah,

Agree a few may have risen, however we can still use this as a base top 10....
