Qlders are pretty irrelevant for a couple of years unfortunately.

Gold Coast to have zoned access to up to five Queensland players prior to each of 2010, 2011 and 2012 NAB AFL Drafts.

Matthew Appleton (WWTFC)

unlucky to miss AIS selection in 2009 after a solid performance in the 16s championships. Quiet year last year but looking fit and strong ready for this season.

Blues to bypass skinny draft with sons of guns

Jordan Dorotich - the 17-year-old son of 1987 premiership player Jon - has completed an encouraging pre-season with the East Fremantle colts side, playing as a mid-sized, attacking half-back and presenting his father's club with a potential second option.

While it's early days, Craig Starcevich, the WAFL's high performance coach, said Dorotich, who turns 18 in October, making him eligible for this year's draft, had made an impressive start to the year after dealing with some injuries. ''He's going along nicely.

''We'll know a bit more once he gets a month or so of footy under his belt, but he's looking promising at the moment,'' he said. ''He's about 190 centimetres so he's not overly tall, but he's a good size already, he has a very penetrating kick and he's got quite a few things going for him.

''He's handling colts level really well so far. He's really taken to it and the next step for him is to keep pushing for the state side. He looks good but the next step is to try and make the state side, so we'll see how he goes.''

Has anyone seen Jordan play?

Emma Quayle has made a bit of an assumption that we're going to bypass the draft and select Dorotich. It doesn't sound like we've committed to drafting Jordan. WC didn't have to use an early pick to draft Jacob Brennan. I believe Fremantle are able to draft Dorotich under the Father-Son rule due to his Dad playing so much WAFL footy.

Though I've read that the draft is skinny.

second from the back left.

... another half back flanker!?!

I wouldn't be surprised if we lost a flanker with Davies, McInnes, Tuohy, Duigan, JR, White, Bower, O'keeffe, etc, on the list.

I'd take Doro as a replacement for Bret Thornton.

Though we're probably hard on Thornton who has been asked to play a position that's now beyond him.

Was solid playing as a loose man in the last quarter.

I watch alot east freo colts they have a very good side again this year.

Jordan will need to improve alot, isn't in wa academy side so is unlikely at this stage to make the under 18's trial game.

Its a long season and may improve over the year, and yes Freo having been watching him for a while as well.

I was speaking to Brad Lloyd last year and he said he's potentially the clubs first father son pick if he continue's to improve, so that may indicate he wants to stay in WA.

But at this stage I wouldn't be using a pick on him.

It's good to hear an opinion, but we'll just wait and see.

Even Carlton supporters would be amused by a Silvagni and a Dorotich playing for another club.
Yep clubs would be lining up for guys who've never played.
Laidler board.

We've got a stack of tall and medium flankers.

Tuohy played on a wing and Austin forward last weekend because we had Watson, McCarthy, McInnes, Davies and others playing down back.

I can see one leaving for more chances like Grigg if he develops.

1st off, Laidler played 2 more games than Watson/McCarthy/McInnes/Davies/O'Keefe ever have.
2ndly, Laidler wasn't playing behind Milburn, Scarlett, Harley, Hunt, Mackie etc.
Whoever your guys are, they are missing for Bret Thornton & Carrazzo.

Little class gulf there.

What do you guys think about the Hawks taking Tom Curran from the Oakleigh Chargers under the f/s rule.
I have read that he is a big lad at about 196 cms, good hands like his old man and can play at both ends.
We havent had a lot of luck with f/s selections I am really hoping young Curran may change this.
I would appreciate any feedback from you experts.
Cheers

A guy of that size who by the sound of things is showing a fair bit as well is one we should definitely be having a good look at ,however his dad only played 109 games for us which i don't think qualifies him for f/s rule.Could be wrong though best to float that question on the hawks board they seem to be a pretty knowledgable lot.

will only ever be a flanker........he is tiny. I am probably not as sold on him as others but he has a lot of his old man about him. Loves a contest, wont take a backward step, has a bit more pace than Jim did but desperately needs to get some size about him. the old man was a stocky sort of bloke so every chance he will fill out. Every chance he will be a midfielder of note and will have the engine to do it.

He is not disimilar to Ben Sinclair or a Sharrod Wellingham from Collingwood.
