Not hugely bothered if a kid is a little under size at 17 years old, we all fill out at different rates. Some kids go from being the smallest and weakest in their age group to the strongest and biggest in a few short years.

If they've got a decent height and frame at 17-18, I've got no problem with waiting for them to fill out.

Throw some of these kids on a jobsite as soon as we draft them, and they'll be big enough to play.

Because of all the cheese-sausages and ice-coffees?

Melbourne recruiting scout John Turnbull spent several days in Darwin, watching Manson play last Saturday, then knocked on the 18-year-old's door on Monday to find out more about the goal-kicking machine.

The Demons have picks 36, 52 and 54 after trading selection No.12 to snare key forward Mitch Clark from Brisbane.

A number of clubs are assessing Manson and there is speculation that Port Adelaide have him among their contenders for their prized first pick, No.6 overall. While that would be a shock, he is unlikely to be available when the Power re-enter the draft at No.45.

I'll be happy with, in no particular order:

- Grunt mid
- Kersten/Lockyer
- McInnes/Bosley/Talia

We're fortunate to be in a better position in this draft than most clubs, we can strengthen each part of the ground.

Every year you read KPP bios and a heap of them sound great, then invariably they turn out to be not so great. I can almost guarantee at least 80% of these names like Bosley, Talia, McInnes, Kersten, Frost, etc. will never make it to be good players. I really don't see how Manson is more of a risk than these guys. Sure, the risk is somewhat different, but he also has much more upside.

Keep pick 16 for someone else by all means. Probably pick 20 as well, depending on how the draft has panned out. But if he is still there at 29 then I really think we should take him, especially if we are looking to go tall. He might be a dud, but chances are if we pick a different tall then they will be a dud as well.

would love it go go along the lines of:
16- Kersten/ Mcinness
20- Ellis/Smith
29-Manson/Bosely
That pretty much will be covering all of our flaws at the moment. could have Kersten or Mcinness step straight in next year and give us a target up forward as both of them are matured bodies ready to go. While Manson or Bosely develop in the WAFL. With pick 20 i would prefer Ellis as he can also step straight into the team next year with his body size but if not Smith can develop in the WAFL as well. I could actually see Smith being able to play a few games next year as a small forward which would be good

If Manson has this raw talent, I'd like to see him have an extended run at the top level. Give him a taste of success and something for his family back home to point at and say: "That's my boy doing that, what's your son done lately??"

A supportive family will go 75% of the way to keeping his head in the game.

Yes, the kid from up north that is drawing similarities to Franklin.

Have to say I'm wary though. Sibosado also drew similar comparisons, Mourish was another "raw talent with huge upside" type player, honestly don't think it's worth the risk. Can also look at Taylor from Richmond. I'm not casting aspersions on his character, merely stating we're never successful with these types.

I can actually lay claim to knowing about Clarke before that article came out. I was working up in Orroroo for a weekend, which is about 3 hours north of Adelaide. And they play in the same league as Clarke. I was talking to a few people at the football, and they mentioned how there was this kid from BMW who was getting interest from the AFL.

But, I can't say I've actually seen him play. Will be an interesting player to watch though.

that manson certainly has talent... i would hate to pick him up with pick 29 though, not because of his talent, but it is just such a risk. in the last 2 years we have seen Relton Roberts, Austin Wonammeri and troy taylor all return back home because of home sickness. I would love to pick up manson with a pick in the 50's but if we got him with a top 30 pick and he left mid year i would be spewing

What comments are you referring to Moo?

And what happened to the sticky?

"Waylen’s an 18 year old and actually got a late call up to the draft camp after he played some great footy in the Landmark country team in which he kicked 5 goals in the grand final. We kept him down to play 2 games with the colts and he kicked 4.5 and then 8.4.

Recruiters were all over him after that and he got the call up to the combine. His strength would be his play reading and contested marking. He’s surprisingly quick when he wants to be and he can kick a goal.
After the draft camp he went back to Darwin and kicked 27 goals in 3 games.

The question with him will be the commitment because we couldn’t keep him in Perth."
