We've trimmed the hedge back too far this year, 6 picks in this years draft.. or 5 picks and a pass to have a PSD pick. Wait.. 4 picks, 1 pass & 1 rookie upgrade (lower). doesn't look too bad.

Live picks: 16, 20, 29, 58.

Pass on our 74 or whatever it is (becomes PSD pick)

90 is the Lower upgrade.

Keep Crowley for 1 year for insurance, it'd be a massive waste to have to give a 2 yr primary list contract to a pick 90 player.

We are going to be at the mercy of the marauding Giants. Here is a thought; GWS go BANG; Kersten, BANG; McInness, BANG; Lockyer.

If I was them I would take any decent tall befor the other clubs who might be interested get a look in.

If they do that then we'll swoop in with glee on the mids they passed up.

Yes that is what I was trying to say earlier. If the Giants do anything other than best available, through strategy/needs, it will open up opportunities for us. We might get top 10 quality with our pick 16.

Crowley is on the verge of signing a one year deal.

Ryan Crowley returns from holiday to Perth today to consider a one-year deal that would extend his career at Fremantle.
...
Crowley's representatives said they were "99 per cent sure" their client would re-sign with the Dockers.
...
A spokesman said Ross Lyon's appointment had helped Crowley's case and final contract negotiations were only over financial terms.

I agree we have gotten rid of too many.

I could be wrong but by my counting (Hayden, Schammer, Bollenhagen, Hinkley, Houghton, Palmer and Pav to the vets list) there are 7 spots on the senior list. I dont really understand the Lower situation, from what I've read it says he got a 2 yr contract extension is that on the rookie list or senior list?

Anyhow lets just assume its the senior list he deserves it IMO, it still means there are 6 spots 1 PSD and five live picks in weak draft isnt good list management to me. To me either Bolly or Houghton offered more than a potential pick 71 in a weak draft.

Surely they are looking at Davis!

Still a bit weird that they've slashed so many players this year, when some of the guys could have been worth keeping around for one more season, and then cutting them for a less compromised draft with richer pickings.

Still, for next year we'd be looking at Crowley, Grover before we even start the season.

On current form if Mellington and Mitchie havent done much by the end of next season then their heads will be on the chopping block as well.

Well that would make 8 picks, plus the guys who were not cut this year. Of course they aren't all going to get the cut, but plenty of potential delistings. The move could also be to shift guys like Houghton to the rookie list as well.

Snoops mock draft is up now, and he is reasonably upbeat about the draft until at least pick 50.

Pav may not be an automatic Vets List inclusion. By not grabbing Clarke, we probibly have excess money to use to get up to the 92% TPP or what ever the compulsory figure is. Put him on the year after to clear an extra spot, and also clear up some salary cap to either steal a player or to negotiate with current players.

Similar to 2009, I reckon, which didn't have a great deal of KPP talent and started to peter out in the third round. We still did reasonably well that draft.

Thought Michie was absolutely killing it last pre season and was looking miles ahead the most likely of our first year kids to get a game. I think he'll come in and perform well this year.

Liked the look of Mellington too, kind of like if Ballas and Mayne had a love child.

I didnt mean that they should be dropped (I rate them both) but if you take Houghton and Bolly for example I thought both showed a bit in the first yr then got a few injuries in their second yr and were cut. If that is anything to go by then if Mitchie and Mellington are both injured next yr (like they were for most of this yr) with the current list management regime they may be in line to get cut.

Agreed. I'm thinking that if they can't play regular WAFL to a reasonable standard at the very least, then they'll be in some trouble.

Where does this guy sit in the draft scheme of things? Pick 20?

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/afl/10894610/dongara-teen-walks-out-on-gws/

WA teenager Simon Tunbridge has walked out on a promising career with Greater Western Sydney just months away from the Giants' first AFL season.

Tunbridge, now 18, was selected under pre-draft concession rules allowing GWS to snare a dozen of the country's best 17-year-olds

Hard to say, what with him playing for GWS this year. So I haven't really looked at him as much.

He is obviously talented, what with being one of the twelve 17 year olds selected. But, Tunbridge isn't a true KPP from what I've seen. He'd be more of a medium defender, sort of in the Chris Newman mould. Not sure if people think that is something we really need, but he has excellent skills, is good above his head and can read the play well as a loose man.

This is probly a valid point. I dont know where we sit with TPP but salary cap issues are never metioned so we might have to keep Pav on the regular list.

We are still going to have to replace at least 5 senior spots and 11 spots all up in a weak draft. Hopefully we look at some mature aged KPP's with a number of rookie spots.

Don't see how TPP would be an issue.. at worst you just front load your contracts and have more money next year for trying to poach a player under free agency.

Thanks, I actually think we do need to top up on one or two quality medium defenders in the mould of Maxwell and O'Brien, Enright, that sort. Tough enough not to be purely outside (able to win 1 : 1) but with the nouse and pace to zone off when need be and the skills to use it well. That role seems to have become more and more important over the last few years and IMO we're lacking in that area.
