Would Shane Kersten play as a KPF in the AFL? Watching the footage on the AFL site he seems more like a leading flanker to me.
Was amazed to see he is shorter than Barlow, but only 3 cm short than McPharlin.

Kersten's stats haven't been updated since he was a 16 yr old, I'd say it is fair to assume he's added at least another cm or two.

The other guy I like is Ben Saunders, has kicked 56.28 from 19 games (including 3 league) for Claremont. I think he's around the 192cm mark.

Seem to move pretty well for a bloke of his size. Could be a good one.

i dont know about that, he said on his last interview with brad and karl that we need more ball winning midfielders and a key forward.... will just depend on who is available at the time

Wow havent heard that yet.
If so thats the best thing ive heard him say all year.

As last few times hes mentioned what we need its been speed.

Saunders bagged 11.2 for Claremont Reserves today.

Waylen Manson a 195cm key forward from Kururrungku Aboriginal Community kicked 8.4 in his second colts games. He kicked 4.5 in his first a fortnight ago.

Peel colts sit 4th on the ladder so they have some quality in their team which makes Manson's effort one of note, their reserves side however has struggled, but still it's more than a fair effort by Saunders to kick 11 goals.

would really like Kersten with the first pick - has the speed and accuracy to make it as a kp forward and with Pavlich probably only with two more years, it would be a good time to get someone in without the full attention down forward. would also like to chase a genuine crumbing forward this year (if this was the draft of Chris Yarran mark 1 then this would be the time to take him with a first round pick).

We were really impotent up forward this year and whilst appreciate guys like Houghton, Sibasado and Mellington might come, they might not as well.

Looks like this years bolter. Only his second game of colts. Seems to have come from nowhere. Given our propensity to take skinny kids with loads of potential early in the draft, Lloyd may pull a trigger on this kid early.

I have no idea what we will do, but given we actually need to fix our forward line sooner rather than later, Kersten sounds more appropriate to me with the first pick.

As far as KPP's go I think it'll be a choice of Kersten or McInnes, and I would be really happy with both, although I have the feeling we'll try to trade for a key forward and pick up a mid with our first choice.

I'd like to see 4 picks (14,33,51,69) used with the first pick used to grab a KPF however if as they say it is a thin draft then maybe the 'best available' is a safer option. I think we still need to take two KPP's in this draft.

If those picks are true,

I would use pick 14 to grab the best inside midfielder, Pick 33 for the best Key Defender/Forward Available.

I dont think we need another ruckman as we got Sandilands, Griffin and Zac Clarke.

I would be happy getting another Michael Walters type player at pick 51.

I wouldnt mind Getting Mitch Clark from Brisbane via PSD but its more Likely he will head to GWS.

I wouldn't - first pick should generally be dictated by the quality available, rather than need, and I don't think that there will be a tick most of boxes inside midfielder at 14, particularly with GWS likely to go full throttle on picking those sorts up. I would say the best available midfielder at 14 will be similar in level to that available at 33, whereas there will be some really good talls at 14 who won't be around at the next pick.

If we were really going need I would go for a small forward first up, but again I reckon the value of the talls at 14 should outweigh that idea.

Have you had a go on the Freo Dream Team thread? I struggle to find places for inside midfielders, and while depth is always good, we can get inside mids at any stage of this draft or next to solve any problems.

Mitch Clark wouldn't get to us via PSD. Not a chance. He may be part of something involving Griffin and something else in a 3-way trade, but if Griffin stays, I don't really want Clark. Too much ruckman, not enough forward.

Yeah good point. GWS will try and get as many good mids as possible.

Historically Key Position players usually get picked early. Since someone on here said theres going to be few good Key position players in this draft. Its going to be hard to get one.

Also I noticed that if we have a pick in the 60s its more likely we can get a decent midfielder than a decent key position player. Our ruck stocks are good.

Ysaye, If you were a recruitment scout and you had pick 14, would you choose a key positon forward or Key defender looking at our list?

If I had it My way I would choose a key defender only because Pavlich has got another 2-3 years left. But I wonder how many years Luke MacPharlin and Grover has left. both have at least 1 year left.

Yeah, have seen their profiles, and want them. A few others around that stage of the draft too, but they seem like as good a sure thing as the draft provides.

Would you activate a hypothetical priority pick to get both, or bank it for next year?

If we can snag both this draft that would go along way to solving some of our KPP issues, especially with McInnes being able to play either end of the ground. I think Kersten despite needing to bulk up could slot straight into AFL footy.

If we go tall with our first pick then these are some of the guys that may be around at pick 14 (from the drafting board).

McInnes - 197 key back
Kersten - 191 Key fwd
Frost - 193 key fwd
Paine - 193 key fwd
Talia - 193 key back
Eldon - 197 key fwd

Chris25, or others who are across these guys, what are your thoughts about them and who would you go for?

I said it on here earlier on this page that I would advise to get a key defender this year only because Pavlich is at freo until 2014. I dont know how many years McPharlin and Grover have left. and the fact some people on here want Michael Johnson out.

Out of those, Elton is potentially the best. And with his size, he shouldn't be available come our pick.

So my pick would be Kersten, he could easily slot in at full forward next year. A forward line of him, Pavlich and Houghton would be perfect. Houghton does the hard running from CHF, Kersten leads out of the square and Pavlich does whatever he wants. Throw in Ballantyne and Walters at their feet, and all of a sudden we have a structure.

I like Paine, but he is pretty similar to what we have in Houghton. Talia looks the goods, and would be a worthy first round pick. But I'd still like us to go with the homegrown forward in Kersten.

At present our first pick in the 2011 ND is 18.
Our pick of 18 is looking like it could tumble to a low of 12.
For it to happen, tigers need to beat the Roos, dees beat port & the dogs beat us, all of sudden we've gone from 18 to 12.

Talia is the other one i'd like at Freo. If we were somehow to get a high pick, say around the 19 mark for Palmer, getting Talia and Kersten would be fantastic.
