hey fellas

how is williams tracking along? how do you see his prospects for 2011?

Club says he has lost 6 kg..

So hopefully he can kick a few bags this yr!

Our prospects will be much like yours under a new coach last year! Thats my opinion anyway... 8-12.

Random question that doesnt need its own thread: Have they released a "Coach's view" article on Essendon yet?

Keep seeing those articles for other teams where they list every player and how they went during the season according to an assistant coach.. very keen to read a Bombers one!
Or have we got rid of all our assistant coaches so none of the new ones cant really comment on the players' seasons?

Interesting to see on the latest BomberTV vid that Prismall is sticking to Stanton like glue. I wonder if he was told to do this or he is going out of his way to improve. I suppose either way is good.

Yeah, either way it sounds like the work rate is up and both are impressing James Hird.

“They are both running very well and are both terrific athletes. If they continue to train over the pre-season in the way that they have so far then I expect them both to have a very good season,”

Always good to hear :thumbsu:

Meanwhile, Hird said delisted forward Jay Neagle was making a strong case to be given a second chance in December's rookie draft.

Neagle has been promised a rookie spot if he can meet standards set by Hird before the December 7 draft.

“Jay has been training really well and doing some extra sessions to get his body where it needs to be in time for the draft,” Hird told essendonfc.com.au.

“We have spoken about the targets that he needs to meet to be an Essendon player and if he is able to meet those, then we will be true to our word.”

That's my boy!

Makes me sick.

A guy in his sixth pre-season still being given extra time to prove his fitness.

No wonder we are a bottom 4 team !

Praying that a club picks Neagle in the PSD.

Do you really think we'd get someone better than a fit Neagle at our last rookie pick?

lol you're such a drama queen.

I agree that it's frustrating he's taking/taken so long to get the picture, but his upside is enormous, he's the only Full Forward on our list, and he's not being guaranteed anything other than a rookie spot if he puts it all together.

We may as well ship Ryder off, as he's still far too laconic on the field and was taken the same year.

Monfries still hasn't got the tank or strength for the midfield spot we drafted him for, and he's two years older, sack him.

etc etc

Iirc the Melbourne boys in 08 (hurls, zaka and still) started within days, but t slatt (sa) came after Christmas.

They start within days but I think the first few weeks are pretty limited in terms of the actual training they do.

Jay has been as injury free as he will ever get in the last two pre-seasons.

You make a tough decision to delist a contracted player - This suggests the player has serious issues with preparation/commitment.

No point in reversing the decision.

I disagree, just because in the past they've been shown to not have the commitment, if he is able to be redrafted, it suggests that he's now put in the commitment to be redrafted.

They aren't just going to redraft him because of nothing.

So on November 8 - Neagle lacks committment and then on December 9 - Neagle is fully committed.

Got me beat !

No. On November 8 - Neagle lacks committment and then on December 12 - Neagle has shown that he will work hard to reach the required levels so we take him and he knows that he will have to continue working hard to get on the main list and get a game. Do you think drafting a motivated Jay Neagle with our last pick would be a bad decision?

Yeah, he's got a month to prove he wants to genuinely stay in a list to play some footy, a month is a reasonable amount of time to show improvement, as Hird has said.
