How are Taylor Hunt and Jimmy Bartel shaping up this pre season? Do you see Hunt starting in your best 21 or having to work in the VFL for some time?

From my perspective, Taylor Hunt will play a lot of senior football this season. Frankly, I think he was very stiff to be omitted last year during the finals.

Will be a fixture in the Geelong line-up for a long time IMO.

From my own personal opinion, if Poodle shows the same form or better that he showed last year in the AFL and does not play regular AFL, then I would suggest that the selection committee down at K Park need to under go regular drug testing.

I have written what I have written.
I cannot recant.
So help me God.

Poodle i think has the skills to be a much bigger influence in the game than he might be getting credit for.

That first goal he kicked last year in the night game ( can t remember who it was against...but Wc or Carlton comes to mind.... where i seem to remember he got possession wheeled around and unloaded from about 52 and just dobbed it was a special moment...

For a 1st year player to have shown the raw skills he has, the sense of the ball and position he has and the desire to chase and tackle I think we might even see him in the MF after a few years - kinda the way TV is moving....

I hope to see more of him on the burst this year....

Go Catters!

I am really liking those who are making big statements re THunt.

I am a bit conservative when it comes to such big calls - but it does give me hope he will be player for us. The dream lives on.

Agree, and apart from his good games in the seniors, I watched most of the VFL games live, and every time he went back there he played the same way and was in our best 3 or 4 players. Young players showing that sort of consistency need to be rewarded with regular AFL footy.

It will be my last opportunity next Friday as I will be back at work on the 24th.

Then don't miss it.

Do you know if they're training again on friday?

Did anyone get along to training yesterday (Rabbi? PO?), and if so was there anything to report for us footy-starved fans :o

Yep, I went. Not a lot to report. It seemed a fairly tame session. The players split into various groups. The newbies had there own group. The centre line players did clearance type drills. Interestingly Kelly was involved.

Big Dawson Simpson and Nathan Vardy did high marking drills. This involved a trainer with the protective padding on the back working as the player that Vardy and Simpson were marking over. They both showed some good leaps and reasonable grabs. Vardy worried me for a minute when he appeared to fall and hurt his ankle. But he was OK. I like the way this big kid moves. He may be a surprise this year. Who knows? I don't know if we can read anything into these drills for specific players. Can we?

Another drill that I noticed the younger players doing was to receive the ball in traffic and then to hold onto it until they worked their way through the traffic to deliver to a team mate. Sorry about the lack of detail.

Thanks for the info.

This an area of our game plan that I think is wrong.
It worked in 07, not anymore.

Good for training kids though for sure. The game is all about pressure at the contest now.

I'd like for someone to report if we are working on pressuring the ball carrier.
I think we lost forward (particularly) 50 pressure in 09/10

Will be making the trip down from Melbourne next friday...gonna book my ticket early :thumbsu:

I think it may well be the last open session before they go away to community camp so a good one to get to.

Agree...transition out of defence and forward line pressure are big areas for us to work on.

Thanks for your report Rabbi, great as usual :thumbsu:

I like Vardy, still pretty slight though, or does he look like he's bulked up?

How about the big Daws, you rate his marking today? It's something he needs to improve on from what I saw last year IMO so I hope to see that.

Daws making an impact and Drum getting out of the medical room and doing the same are my great hopes for pre season.

I think that he has thickened up in the legs but his upper body and core still need work. But hell, he is only a kid. A big one, but still a kid.

It is hard to tell in a drill. He does have a reasonable leap for a kid his size. He is certainly not a Dinosaur. He took some good high grabs and dumped a few others. I don't think that we can tell until he is in a contest. The NAB cup cannot come soon enough for me.

I do have visions of him splitting packs while resting in the forward line.

Hi guys, sorry to intrude. I'm just curious to know what's wrong with Harry Taylor? Just saw him out and he had a very obvious limp??

Cheers.

an obvious limp what? photos?

seriously, if you saw him in WA, how would we know?

not aware of any recent operations or injuries.

Apart from players from their own team, the most popular player in the AFL is probably the jPod.

How is he going in the preseason ?

He IS recovering nicely from arthroscopic hip surgery, so may have a limp! for a little while

I'm from Geelong. Was limping like he'd had surgery, or, he has the body of a 90 year old.

On the plus side for him his girlfriend is hot.

Had hip clean out but has been back in full training since the start of january, is going well and is on track to play NAB Cup.

GO JPOD!

Maybe just flogged himself at training during the week?

Not great news if limp is true, although there's a fair bit of time until round 1.

Yeah of course, just wanted to hear if he was bulking up because when his body does that, he's definitely talented enough for AFL footy.

I agree Daws is no dinosaur (compared to Blake), just need him to use his body strength more and be less awkward in marking contests. This is a very big year for his career.

I have high hopes for Dawson this year... I was speaking with a colleague who knows his family and from what I hear he isn't going to hold back at all. He knows this year is make or break so im expecting big things!!

Good news. I wouldn't quite say it's perform really well this year or that's it, but with Ottens about to retire at the end of the year and Daws being 3 years in, this is the time for him to stand up and grab that spot or risk being bypassed (for that spot) by others. Hope he goes well in the NAB, he was reasonably good in the NAB games last year.
