Re: Rivalries & Bets

Looks like this will be one of the very few weeks in the year where it kinda pays off not to have Swan in my side (not that a 106 score is bad, but compared to his 147 avg, I might make some ground for a change...):p

Re: Rivalries & Bets

You did get a break. I started lower on the ground so was always getting his score. Broughton out meant I had to take Toys 67 as emergency.

Re: Rivalries & Bets

I'm really surprised you got that to be honest. I was expecting to have made a few hundred on you. 2178.

Only a matter of time before you smack me for real. And you were spot on with my double trade to save a bit of my score. Coad had to go.

I lucked out bringing in Petrie. Short term gain though as I am down a few trades! Will hurt me later.

Did the Petrie move as it was a plan pre-season to bring him in prior to this round. Zac will be downgraded to J Tippett for MPP with Petrie (Prestia) when he ripens. Shit, i'm talking like i know what i'm doing...but seriously, i use whatever excuse I can to make a trade!

I hereby pledge not to trade this week.
I hereby pledge not to trade this week..
I hereby pledge not to trade this week...

Ok, i cant do it. I so need to upgrade Kraks/Otten/Knights...i mean, why wait when they are scoring so badly.

I've still got a small lead overall but down 2 trades. Everything held even, this should be my week to hit back as you have Pav/Broughton out. Obv you could address this with a trade or two.

Taking the long term view, you are doing much better. Given i went mid price strategy, I should be building an early lead, and then you hit back later with better rookie/premium upgrades. I seriously need to make some headway now or i'm fooked!

Re: Rivalries & Bets

This week's teams must make you even happier PK.

Higgins, Otten and Cam out for me.

And Krakouer a slight tease making it hard to make decisions.

Need to decide on whether to just leave things as they are and save trades or make up my mind on J Reiwoldt as an underpriced premium keeper!

If keeper, then only options are Otten or Krakouer out, and little roo in. Not sure as thinking little roo could be a weight around your neck!

Re: Rivalries & Bets

Think I have shot my load early PK. Shot up to 292 overall but with a little trade damage.

This was going to be my best week vs you and it turned out that way.

Are you still 100% sure of yourself? If i can negotiate next week on par, i'll be quite happy with my position.

Re: Rivalries & Bets

You out there PK, or you hiding behind a rock?

This is your week to hit back as I have Pendlebury, Higgins (injured), Kraken, and Swan out stretching me in both the mid/fwd line. At this stage i'm forced to play Libba (mid 6) and Matera (Fwd 7) if all players hold up come selection day.

I could do a desprate measure move and bring in another early premium in Broughton/Newman (via Duigan) but think I'll hold off for enright the following week. Really need to see Broughton another week or two to see if he is good value or not. A sore back doesnt garner much long term confidence!

I can see you catching up significantly here ~ 150-200 pts. If you blow this chance I'm going to call this one early...the fat lady has been on the phone and is ready to sing her lungs out :D.

I'm definitely here.

That's a shame.

Hold off? That doesn't seem like your style. I'm not sure if I can believe this though. Mid-round you have given the impression you haven't had a player in your side, then they magically are in your side after lock-out.

Sounds good. I wouldn't know though, as I'm not aiming to beat you, I'm aiming to finish as high as possible. Beating you will be incidental. But it's a good strategy. If I didn't know what I was doing, I would copy me too.

I'm not worried about a Carlton supporter who didn't take Ed Curnow in his side

Bolded above

Re: Rivalries & Bets

Good point on the Curnow thing. High risk, high reward which I missed out on. He was only in for one game but lucky for you, killed it. He was also only one game from being dropped for either Ellard/Mclean in games 2/3. You lucked out along with many others. I'm not a sheep.

It was because i know a lot about Carlton that I didnt take him. Other Carlton posters took him based on being fanboys of anything Carlton...a lot of them also took other Carlton players like Jamison/Laidler/Carrots etc.

Curnow from rounds 1-3 was higher risk than any other mainstream midfield rookie option.

You have 19 trades left?

Curnow wasn't high risk if you did your research. Yes he was a rookie, but he also polled in 10 of 12 games for Box Hill last season before he fractured his leg including 5 bog's. Was formerly an Adelaide rookie listed player, so was obviously rated by a few. He was well worth the risk IMO.

I can't see how he was any riskier than many other rookies that were being touted at the start of the year. After round 1, for those that had him, he was the first rookie picked on field given his scoring.

Def did do my homework and know all of that. The risk was that Mclean and Ellard are both inside mids and were ahead of Curnow (in the pecking order) despite his box hill form which i'm fully aware of. I'm 90% sure that Curnow was only in the team for 1 week because Ellard was suspended round 1 and Mclean had a slight 1-2 week fitness setback. He took his chance and now looks like in hindsight like a sure thing.

Don't want to get in a dogfight over it though. Well done for haivng him :)

After week 2, i would admit, i could have taken the chance on him like everyone else given displayed form. I thought Ratts would bring back Mclean, a senior player.

The uncertainty at the time is a bit like L Thompson pre-weekend isnt it? Lots of uncertainty, but now he looks a sure thing because he slotted in a 126. If Thompson backs up with another 100, then a 90, we'll have everyone saying you were stupid not to grab him being one of the last early dowmgrade options.

Also, not griping at all. I'm 292 overall which I'm absolutely stoked with.

Re: Rivalries & Bets

Fair enough mate. I'm not looking for a dog fight.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents that I didn't think he was risky at the start of the season. He certainly wasn't spoken about much from what I read, but I was quietly confident he'd go well. Happy to take your word that he was only a fill in at the start for Carlton as you would obviously know your team better than I. Certainly has taken his chances.

I will admit that I did get a bit lucky as I hadn't seen him play, but his numbers in the prospectus sounded really good and he was named for Carlton in the first round, so it was good enough for me. All he had to do was perform in that first game and perform he did.

All the best for the season and your bet.

Re: Rivalries & Bets

How many trades have u got left Blue Gibbs? Im suprised u didnt jump on Curnow, i been watching the Carlton games closely and jumped on him after round 2. Was at the richmond game and thought he be the sub otherwise i probably would have had him from the start. Was on my iphone in the mcc members weighing up whether to bring him in lol.

292 is a good effort mate, your only 64 places behind the great one Sensations SCE you must be very proud :)

Hey Stanton...this is my time, I can feel it in my bones!

The trade situation is a hurtful topic right now :D. If i close my eyes and think of being in the Maldives again, it seems to wash away the fear that is rising by the week!

Is Sensations SCE your team? How many trades do you have left? Surely you don't still have like 20+!

Yeah if I started matera over richo 2 weeks ago I'd be top 50. Still spewing about that one . Who would think little matera would score 117 more points than big richo. But anyway nah I've used a few 18 left I've come out firing this year.

Needed to avoid a few donuts.

Re: Rivalries & Bets

Who are you bringing in PK?

Enright, Selwood, Boyd or Chappy? I'm guessing Selwood!

I've plumped for Enright. Was going to hold a week...well i think i was going to wait, but then with Libba going down and 3 pies on the bench + higgins, i may as well make the jump this week to save the donut!

Leaves me with 14 trades and 4 premiums to get if i leave Heppell as my def 7. Given my early trades, i may just have to do that and save the 6 for injuries, last minute crazyness.

If you do a double-trade, that leaves you with 17, 3 more than me. The end game shambles will decided it with your trsdes being morme than handy (i need a decent lead by 15).

I'm hoping (planned) the extra bench is my savour along with the fact that the late multiple team bye rounds dont impact me too much.

Good luck mate. Hope you smack PK's arse. LOL! :D:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Re: Rivalries & Bets

I think PK has the right idea here. He isn't aiming to beat one singular person he is aiming to finish as high as possible. Knowing full well that if he succeeds then the rest will take care of itself.

I think you might run into some trouble later on in the year BG2011 when PK's team is complete it will make up a lot of ground. But I still think it is a credit to you for taking him on and keeping it interesting :thumbsu:

What is the gap between you guys anyway?

I'm 320 ahead but have a bad week this week with Pendles, Swan, Higgins, and Krak on the pine. He only has Swan on the pine. I expect him to do an upgrade offsetting my enright trade. Only reason he wont is if he is waiting for Pendles next week, or cant afford Boyd/Chappy/Selwood this week due to lack of funds. He'll want to keep Curnow on the field compared to the other rookies if he can.

I expect to drop at least half my lead at least this week. In terms of the end game, a lot will depend on luck with injuries for me particularly because I have gone hard hoping the 3 rookies this year will save me.

Either way, I have a lot more respect for him than I could ever have for you. I offered you a $50 bet when you were beating me overall mid-year, and you didn't even have the fortitude to accept. BlueGibbs knew he was more than likely up against it, but was willing to put up 10x that amount.

Conviction in your ability speaks louder than words.

Way to blow your own trumpet!

I have no respect for you either so I'm not going to lose any sleep. :D:thumbsu:

Re: PK Legrand vs Vandemon - it's a knockout!

Well, let's get down to it...in the blue corner, we have PK Le Grand, the Black Caviar of Supercoach. Can this guy go any better. Has taken the rookie/premium strat to new heights and has finishes of 2 and 25 plus a few other great scores! Umm, gulp, can I get my money back!!

I wasn't the one who said these things mate.
