Well done to Jack and the crew at Chiltern on there new coach, and for being proactive and getting someone from outside the local area.
Whats happening elswhere Tallangatta been on the lookout for quite a while, had no takers, Wayhgunya maybe Corcoran,Rutherglen also struggling, Saints cant get anyone remotely interested, and hear Price is taking over at Barny with DeMarte to stay as a player and as usual Narra is non commital at Mitta waiting to see who is staying and who is leaving might big a big exodus from up there.

Would almost be the biggest recruiting coup for 2012 season. Nice to see a tallangatta league club beat an O&M club to a quality player.

Does anyone know anything about an old chiltern player. His name is Sean Curtis and I know he has being in Melbourne for a couple of years. Have heard he is moving back to the area. Anyone know anything about him or can anyone confirm or deny this?

Been awhile since i have seen him built like a basketball but finds the footy ok, anbody heard of any coaching appointments

Has anyone noticed Rutherglen has signed a coach? Non playing Gil Ould from Moyhu. Is this a step forward or back? Surely a playing coach has to be the way to go! Why has this not been in the paper? Surely Rutherglen would of contacted the border to let them know.

rutherglen had been waiting on the outcome of Ken Stevenson's negotiations with Jindera, now that he and Jindera have settled it seems that would be the way to go.
Why is a playing coach so important? If you can afford to have a non playing coach and still recruit quality players i would go after a non playing coach. Remembering a playing coach really doesn't coach game day.

Tend to agree with your comments re non playing vs playing - not sure about your comments on Ken Stevenson though - he wasn't even in the running. He was interested cats wern't

Obviously raising money isn't an issue then.....

Would have thought Stevenson would have been an ok fit considering a majority of his work is Yarrawonga/Mulwala based. Coaching Jindera to a flag is no mean feat with quality sides like Holbrook, Culcairn and BB Saints going around in the Hume League.

Why wouldn't you go playing? If you have quality guys running the bench for you surely you are getting a quality player who is going to lead from the front and coach in one.

So by your reckoning if an Ernie Whitehead, Richard Bence or Terry Burgess walked in the door and said they wanted the job and could bring 6 quality players with them you wouldn't be interested. I'm sure Albury and Jindera winning flags proves this theory wrong.:thumbsu:

Not doubting that at all, and not criticising either way. player/coach works if his bench is on the ball. A comment was made to us after the prelim final that our box was always in front of our oppositions, that is the control a non playing coach has ahead of a player coach. Remembering the guys in the box are the second option and may not pick up things as quick. Interesting that O and M clubs in particular are having co coaches- one playing-one non. I just think if the budget allows a non playing coach is better option, just my opinion.

So your telling me the TDFL club your involved with could afford a Whitehead or a Bence plus 6 quality players as well as keeping your current group of players happy.........

Not sure how you could have Albury in this at all...... Any club who is as well financially backed and can afford to have as many players employed by it's number 1 suppprter is an exception to the rule.... Can't see many TDFL clubs with this much financial support.

Any way off the subject, how are the remaining two clubs who are looking for coaches going? Any word on candidates?

Hear Conway has pulled the pin at Mitta. Packer to step into the role.

Any player movements?

Stevensons coaching credentials not the issue.

Good point on the money though -what do reckon a "good" non playing coach is worth?

What do you reckon a good player that can coach is worth?

What do you reckon a good playing assitant coach is worth?

Does a good non playing coach + a good playing assistant = a good player who can coach?

Would have thought that this would vary from club to club dramatically.

Depending on calibre of juniors and locals that a competitve side should be on the park for well under $100K.

Great signing by Jack and the Chiltern boys in landing Kirk Wilson as assistant coach. With Brian Durbidge on board as coach and all reports Dane O'Neill, Tim Lamb and Cam Cassidy all signing on for 2012 things must be looking up at the Swans.

Any other player movements around the traps?

Heta and Corcoran (Raiders) to Barny has been floating around anyone confirm or deny?

Heard a rumour that the Ladgrove boys from the Raiders might be switching camps in Wodonga and signing on with the Saints and bringing some mates with them.....would be a good start to their rebuilding. Any truth to this?

Very quiet on here, what’s all the news? Tallangatta or the Saints got a coach yet?
Will Thurgoona ever win a flag? Would have thought maybe this year was the one!! With the clubs in the league are they right up there with the longest flag drought? (Being never)
Demarte coaching Barny again next year?
How will Packer go next year?
All the talk is chiltern, are they spending big?
Rutherglen's new coach taking any players with him?
Somebody please comment or start a new thread

Tallangatta & Saints both struggling for coaches at this late stage, would think another long year ahead.

Thurgoona no flag since inception 1988, 23 years.
Barnawartha admitted 1958, 1st & only flag 2002, 44 years.
Bethanga/Saints in League since inception 1945, no flags, 66 years.
Dederang no flags between 1962 & 1999, 37 years.
Yack no flags between 1964 & 2000, 36 years.
Rutherglan, last flag 1954, 58 years.
That puts the Dogs 6th in the longest drought competition.

Looks like opinoins are split on playing or non playing with Rutheglen and Mitta appointing non playing coaches to join Dederang, Thurgoona, while Kiewa,Barny, Chiltern, Beechworth, Waghunyah, all have playing coaches with the Saints and Tallangatta still coachless and look to be cellar dewllars again.
Gorupic is an interesting appointment at Mitta considering he is best mates with Price from Barny seems the tradition of Mitta not spending big bucks continues? following Knee and Shoulder surgery not sure if he will play in the first half of the season but have heard Packer is an interim coach and Gorupic to take over in 2013

Not sure if Chiltern are spending big or just more then what they have in the past. Also heard they have a recruitment committee which is making a HUGE difference. But in saying all that, they would have spent bugger all over the last 3 or so years so maybe they saved all their pennies to recruit all at once?
Word has it that Demarte has signed on as coach. Heard they offered/hoped that Price would take over soon, but didnt want the top job or even be an assistant.

The paper said they hoped that Gorupic would be fit for round one... Would wonder if his body is going to hold upto it. As last time i heard, he was hanging the boots up. So Mitta must have "not spent much" to get him to sign out there.

Saints one and only flag in 1929 in the Yackandandah Football Association.

I believe Rutherglen last won a flag in 1990 (Coreen League). We had a flagless stint in O & K (1992-2003) and have yet to taste the ultimate in the TDFL (2004-present). Im not sure but the '54 premiership might have been the last as a stand alone O & M club
