Wasnt sure how much interest there will be for these. Going by the Spring Classics and Paris-Roubaix threads, probably not too much so thought I'd consolidate all of them into one thread.

Although only one of the remaining bigger one-day races is a 'cycling monument', i've included the others listed either due to their PT designation, or due to their historical significance as a (semi) classic. all but 2 of the World tour events clash with the Vuelta, clearly a point the UCI are trying to make to the Vuelta organisers to shorten their race to a 2-week event........a travesty should it ever eventuate.

A hilly parcours always means many Grand Tour GC contenders and good climbers in general, as well as the strong one-day riders opt to participate in it. Can Gilbert carry his spring form here and break the recent Spanish dominance of the race?

It really is a quality field. This is the profile...

From what i can see, the last four climbs (there are actually two but they repeat those two) are...

1a - 9km @ 5.84%
2a - 4km @ 6.30%
1a - 9.5km @ 5.84%
2a - 4km @ 6.30%

Then from the top of the last climb to the finish, there is 15km of downhill/flat...

Yeah, think its too hilly for Gilbert.

I like someone like De Gendt who had a huge finish to the Tour. Vacansoleil desperate for a Win as well.

Maybe even Sammy Sanchez.

Velits would want to atone for his poor TDF, as would his team mate Tony Martin.

Would be a good start to the late season for J-Rod.

Don't write off Rojas or Cunego. Rojas could make it over the climbs and win the sprint, Cunego was looking better and better as the tour progressed.

This looks like being a beauty. Brilliant field of riders and a very interesting course. Hoping for a Sammy win for Euska, who have never won their home classic.

yep, just checked the offical event website and they're out. No update on replacements. Radioshack loses NZs Sam Bewley, and Chris Anker Sorenson is out for Saxobank, neither replaced as yet. Andriy Gryvko replaces Kreuziger for Astana.

cyclingnews course preview

the Clasica San Sebastian wields a certain fascination in its own right, as it provides a rare common battleground for Classics specialists and Grand Tour riders alike.

Soaring temperatures and rugged terrain make Spain’s premier one-day race a suitably tough proposition. The climbing gets underway barely 20km in and the combination of the Orio-Zudugarai and the Alto Garate (29.4km) should see the day’s early break sally clear.

120km of rolling roads follow that opening salvo before the business end of the race, which sees the peloton tackle two laps of a testing finishing circuit centred on the Alto de Jaizkibel and the Alto de Arkale. At 7.8km in length and with an average gradient of 5.84%, the first ascension of the Jaizkibel helps to thin the leading group. When the bunch tackles the climb the second time around, however, it serves as a crucial strategic springboard as there are just 38km left to the finish.

The final climb of the shorter Arkale (2.7km at 6.3%) comes with only 15km to race, and gives punchy riders another opportunity to slip the leash ahead of the quick run-in to San Sebastian. In the streets of the town itself, the sharp kick up the Alto Miracruz offers one last chance to shake up the winning break, before the grandstand finish on San Sebastian’s Boulevard.

A cursory glance at the Clasica San Sebastian’s roll of honour suggests that the race favours a strong climber who knows how to look after himself in a sprint. It’s not by chance, therefore, that the likes of Laurent Jalabert, Paolo Bettini and Alejandro Valverde have all triumphed there in the past decade.

Lampre, Katusha, Movistar and Euskatel pulling the peleton for Cunego, J-ROD, Rojas and Sammy respectively.

For a laugh, get google to translate this page: http://www.biciciclismo.com/cas/site/eventos_online-ficha.asp?id=95

Edit: here is an example of the translation "A 65 kms from the finish. The advantage is maintained over 3 minutes, 3:45. Movistar Team working from behind, Rojas is the big favorite trick and if it exceeds the second step and Arkale Jaizkibel."

And people say Phil and Paul are confusing :p

Fantastic finish!

Gilbert basically TT'd from the 3.8km mark all the way home.

Carlos Barredo into second. I can now see why he was rated a 10 on the "suspicion index". Attack after attack after attack. Must have gone solo 4 times in the last 40km.

Greg Van Avermaet wins the "bunch" sprint for third.

Others in the final group include Frank Schleck, Sammy Sanchez, Joaquin Rodriguez, Haimar Zubeldia, Dries Devenyns and Rigoberto Uran.

Jelle Vanendert rounded out the top 10, 50 seconds back

Was Uran in the break before I lost my feed.

I have no idea really. There was a sky rider, I assume it was Uran but I really couldnt make it out from the commentary, and I couldnt see the number either.
