TBH, I think our 2015 side is better. It is more classy.

2015 Forward >>> 2011 Forward
2015 Mid = 2011 Mid
2015 Back line = 2011 Back line

2015 Ruck < 2011 Ruck.
EFA

2011 Cox and NN were amazing. Sinclair does not bridge the gap that Cox left (forget about Cox's last couple of years), and NN was just as amazing in 2011 as he is now.

Our midfield is much more diverse now and we have some good young talent in there, but Kerr is absolutely irreplaceable. In 2016 if Duggan has a full preseason and the others stay fit then I'd say we will be on top, but at this stage we're about on par IMO. Also, remember Shuey never used to get tagged, so he and Gaff would run rampant.

I think our defensive set up now is much better equipped to handle a variety of oppositions. It's not so reliant on two guys (Glass and Mackenzie) playing 1 on 1 and nullifying gorilla forwards. Sides with diverse attacks would smash us back then because our defense kind of assumed that the opposition would consistently target their KPFs. I think we are one small defender away from having an elite defense (obviously injuries permitting).

Thread really needs teams to make an objective decision.

2011;
Waters Glass Butler
Schofield MacKenzie Hurn
Gaff Priddis Embley
Masten Darling Lynch
Nicoski Kennedy LeCras

R: Cox Shuey Kerr

I: Naitanui, A. Selwood, S Selwood
Sub: Ebert
Notable backups:
Brown, Dalziell, McGinnity, Smith

2015;
Butler McGovern Hurn
Wellingham Schofield Sheppard
Gaff Priddis Rosa
Masten Darling LeCras
Cripps Kennedy Sinclair

R: Naitanui Shuey Yeo

I: Sheed, Nelson, Hill
S: Ellis
Notable backups - Hutchings, McGinnity, S. Selwood, Duggan

Used a mix of finals teams to come up with the top one, and round 23 team plus a few notable backups for this year.

Edit: forgot Lecca
Edit 2: Butler x2 ffs

I still rate 2015 > 2011. Ignoring Mackenzie and Brown, if we'd even had something resembling continuity with this lineup, we would be streets ahead of where we are.

2 Sam Butlers? I'd say you could slot Ellis into the 21 and throw Duggan, Hutchings or Nelson in there as sub.

Who had the better year as that HF/FP Nicoski 2011 or Cripps 2015?

Cripps only turns 24 next year. Didn't realise he was so young. Going to be a super player for us for a very long time. Hopefully players like Cripps and Sheppard can play a lot more midfield minutes next year - will add different dynamic.

Love Cripps' tackling and pressure, but Nico beating the zone and getting the one over the top consistently was a huge part of our fast paced attack in '11. Tough call, Cripps the better year but Nico more vital to the scheme.

True. Nicoski was very dynamic and explosive - arguably the barometer of the side.

Added poll and added teams to OP

I picked 2011

2011 has too much talent IMO

FWD line in 2011 was better IMO

It is very close though

2015 plays as a team much better

In a head2head 2011 would win

The 2011 FWD line would be too much for our undersized defense

To be brutally honest, this is my favourite Eagles team of all time and they haven't even won a premiership yet.
This. matching it with the best and just watching the guys enjoy their footy together is beautiful to watch.

No, Cripps beats nico
and hill beats lynch.
And you could say that nearly all the forwards that were in 2011 forward improved ie darling

Lynch was bad in 2011 (Every time they pass to him he drops it. With hill he leads hard and marks it on a lead. Lynch tries to 1 v 1 but fails most times.)
I think he was overrated. Hill gets the easy goals but lynch doesn't. So hill arguably contributes in every game with atleast 1-2 goals but lynch has games where he done nothing.

And every other player in 2015 improved from 2011. Especially the darling.

I thought Lynch was great in 2011

He played that high forward role to perfection

He'd always mark it on the wing and bomb it down to Darling/Kennedy

We had a great FWD line that year

The thing with lynch is he tried to contest 1 v 1. He lost most of those. While hill doesn't contest 1 v 1 . He either crums them or leads hard (with a gap).
