I apologise then muttweed. There is a Geelong supporter that has been trolling this thread with a different account each year. Just assumed it was you, but looking at your posting history I was clearly wrong. Sorry.

Haha, no problem. There are only so many trolls on BigFooty anyway.

TBH im not one for pumping up my own, and I reckon Mumford is having another top year.

But.

Looking at stats (not that they tell the whole story), Goldstein is having a ridiculous year, he's averaging a fair bit more than Mumford in every single catergory.

Oh my. Griffen before Bartel? Are you serious? I also think that Scarlett should be in the top 10 somewhere. Probably our best back of all time.

And I don't get how you could put Stevie J before Chappy. I know that 7 goals is a good achievement by Johnson, but what of it. It's CHAPMAN. Wake up.

If you want more defenders in there, I think that Harry Taylor, Corey Enright or Tom Lonergan deserve a spot.

Just speaking for Geelong here though.

Griffen has been better than Bartel this year, so im pretty sure he is serious. Just because we are going shit doesn't mean he is. He is pretty much the only player that plays well for us every single week.

Just because Scarlett is "probably your best back of all time" doesn't mean he goes into the top 10. All time has nothing to do with a 2011 list.
He is playing well, and 28 is probably the right spot for him.

I cant be bothered responding to the rest of your post, since its just ridiculously biased towards Geelong. There are 16 other teams ya know? Its a lot of players to choose from, and AG does a damn good job of his list.

Obviously I was referring to Marc Murphy not Robert, so I apologise for incorrectly choosing to quote a post instead of just stating it.

I do watch all games and agree Marc Murphy is having a great year. I still believe Pendlebury's more creative ball use and greater efficiency puts him ahead. Brad Scott, Mark Maclure, Jason Dunstall and David King are a few pundits who have stated this season they believe he is the best player in the competition. I'm sure there would also be many who place Murphy ahead. Just nice to see not just Collingwood supporters thinking this way.
Greater kicking efficiency is only because Pendles kicks little 20m passes more often than Murph... I guarantee you average kicking pass length between the 2 will see Murph alot higher...

Plus disposal efficiency may also mean Pendles handballs it more often than Murph

Another list of my suggestions:

AGs list round 12:
1. Murphy had another great game. Stays at no. 1.
2. Watson was quite (very likely from injury). Apparently had two kicked on him in the first half. As he has been out of action for a few weeks it’s probably time he slides.
3. Franklin was one of Hawthorn’s best. The Hawks structure hurt him and I did think he received one perhaps two cheapies. Still should remain about the same.
4. Pendlebury has not played yet.
5. Cox didn’t get many touches but his ruckwork was superb. Mind you Naitanui’s on the weekends was better.
6. Selwood got smashed by Sewell for almost three quarters. Was handy up forward but did kick OOF when a goal was called for. Should slide.
7. Thomas is suspended.
8. Thompson was one of Adelaide’s best (perhaps only behind Johncock). Should stay here abouts.
9. Judd was fantastic (not scintillating) but could jump ahead of Selwood, Thomas and Thompson.
10. Can’t fault Fyfe’s game. Probably doesn’t justify him jumping higher but was certainly a major contributor.
11. Kelly was consistent. Level head, seemed to use the ball well. Not overwhelmingly impressive.
12. Shaw has not played yet.
13. McPharlin had 28 touches, 14 marks and shut down Hurley. Jump, jump, jump him.
14. Bolton played well defensively but didn’t get much of the pill. Could slide.
15. Swallow got beaten at times by Ablett. Seemed to have a limited impact. There were plenty of other Roos playing better than him.
16. Mundy injured earlier. Out for a month or so. Will slide as he watches.
17. Griffen ran with Goddard defensively. The stats will tell you Goddard won that matchup but I would be inclined to say Griffen took the points.
18. Bartel was a kick behind the ball in the dying stages of the Geel v Haw game. Was important in the win but only played average.
19. Ablett was close to his best. Could jump Swallow.
20. Mitchell was great with 38 touches. Certainly should move up the list.
21. Sandilands is still injured.
22. Fisher had a forward tag on him. Hard to read what impact he had.
23. Moloney has not played yet.
24. Swan is out injured. Probably could slide again.
25. Priddis did not have as much impact as he usually does.
26. Jamison smashed Brown for three quarters.
27. Cotchin was good against Sydney.
28. Scarlett was able to sit behind the ball quite a bit. Was only okay.
29. Goodes needs to learn to kick straight. Had only ten disposals yet had nine marks. Was disappointing.
30. Gibson got hammered by Podsiadly in the second quarter. Must slide.
31. Deledio was good and received his customary 27 touches off the back flank.
32. Kennedy was cold. Probably could have kicked another one or two goals but was really never in the game.
33. Wells was BOG for mind. Jump him.
34. Boyd had an epic game in a losing team. With 39 touches could almost be BOG.
35. Merrett out for a long time.
36. Embley was fantastic. While not as good as Kerr, nor as clean as Rosa he worked tirelessly all day. He was even vomiting profusely at three-quarter time.
37. Rischitelli beat Ziebell.
38. Johnson was very good. Kicked the winner. Still, not sure whether he deserves to be top 50.
39. Another gun game by Scotland. Though he was shaded by his more elite midfield counterparts he was very important.
40. Reid has not played yet.
41. Martin was fantastic for Richmond. Certainly had the better of the McVeigh matchup and kicked two goals as well.
42. Mumford did not play.
43. Cloke has not played yet.
44. Riewoldt kicked two goals from nine touches. 5 frees against probably marks this game down as a poor one.
45. O’Keefe was very, very good. Jackson couldn’t contain him. Good to see O’Keefe is back to his ’06-’08 form. Possibly better.
46. Dal Santo kicked two goals but 14 touches spells a quite night for the champ.
47. Corey was only average.
48. Rutten did really well on Kennedy considering what was happening up field.
49. Chapman did not stand out. Got a few soft frees but didn’t really see him in the last quarter.
50. Sewell was one of Hawthorn’s best. Smashed Selwood when he played on him.

Others to consider:

Andrew Walker – Probably the strongest contender to be put in the top 50. 30 goals in half a season begs the question, “why isn’t he in there already?”

Daniel Kerr – while coming back from injury Kerr has really elevated his game in the last month. Wouldn’t be out of place in the last few spots of the 50.

Brent Harvey – had a cracker for his record-breaking game. Consider carefully for top 50.

Matt Rosa – the word for Rosa is “underrated”. I know I am his player sponsor so that may make me bias but he is averaging just under 24 touches a game, 6 marks & 4 i50s. His disposal is clean and he has lifted his amount of contested disposals. He is now regularly in our top handful of players.

Matthew Pavlich – puts himself back in contention with a big game.

Jack Stevens – may be a while away get but his last month has been top class. Possibly been St Kilda’s best player in this period.

Dale Morris – shut down Milne. Thereabouts this season.

Not sure what to do with Merrett. May as well just take him out completely since his season is pretty much over.

Murphy will stay 1. Pendlebury will go 2 if he has good game. Franklin will be 3rd and Selwood, Cox and Judd will probably round out the 6. Watson will start to slide now if doesn't return to his early season form. Last 4 games he has missed two and been quiet in the other two. I might still keep Watson in the top 6 though.

Selwood was still crucial in the end and was their match winner imo when he played at HF.

Agree with the majority of the movements in the 50. Not some of the players who you'd bring into the 50 though.

Agree with Merrett and your top six.

My considerations for the top 50 were more my musings from the weekend. The three players I would bring into your top 50 would be:
1. Andrew Walker
2. Matthew Pavlich
3. Matt Rosa

Kerr, Stevens and Morris are players who may end up in the top 50 by years end.

Pardon me nominating one of the club I support's players, but Goldstein would be pushing strongly for a spot in the 40-50 region. For comparison, in my opinion the amount of impact he has per games would probably rival that of a Shane Mumford (currently #42), and now Goldstein has played two more games than Mumford. One to consider.

Wells was best on ground against Gold Coast, whereas Swallow was average. Wells' season has probably been around as good as Swallow's, so I'd put them close to each other (probably in the twenties somewhere).

You've done a great job with this list, by the way. Keep up the good work!

Pav will come in.

tbh I haven't seen the Eagles that much over the past few weeks, so I can't really comment on Rosa. Butler seems to be another one getting a lot of plaudits.

Walker has been solid this season and very good the last two weeks. Before this weekend I had Gibbs and Garlett ahead of him, so he probably just joins the unluckies this week. He is a possibility though.

Leaning towards someone like Goldstein, probably a week to late with him. Robert Murphy, Luke Ball if he plays well today. That's probably it for this week.

Chapman and Merrett (due to injury) probably the two that will come out.

EDIT: Haha, phaze away was 5 mins too early in regards to Goldstein.

I agree with AG on this one. Would be on the cusp.

Update:

4. Pendlebury was poor. Slides down or doesn't move up.

12. Shaw was completely shut out of the game by Morton. Slide.

23. Moloney had a go but beaten by Ball in the end.

40. While Watts played well when on him Reid was strong down back. Stays about here.

43. Cloke kicked five in the first half and ended with six. Should jump a few spots.

Some general observations:

Wells I'd have up much higher, champion data has him ranked in the top 10 players in the competition this season.

Absolutely tore us to shreds Saturday night, with 88% DE in driving rain, he's miles ahead of Cotchin this year.

Id probably have him in the top 20, ahead of Griffen imo.

I'd have Jamison higher, and Scarlett lower.

Cloke would also have to be top 40 going on current form.

I did some adjustments a few days ago based on what was said and Cloke was at 40. So he'll be well inside after this round.

Wells top 25 at least, not too fussed about champion data. Priddis has been top 10 for the past two years from memory, without doing much.

I liked Ball's game today, so he might come in along with Pav and Goldstein. Maybe Dal Santo/Corey out.

Wells is certainly flying under the radar a bit. Doubt he's top 15 but playing to a level that would put him in the top half of the 50.

I have no doubt Cloke will definitely be jumping a few spots after this week.

Fair enough.

Wells and Priddis are two completely different animals though :p

Wells' champion data score is driven by goal assists/KE%/I50's where as Priddis would be down to heaps of disposals.

agree on Ball.

Mostly agree. They seemed to just do what they needed to do to get the win (other than Selwood's 4th quarter).

Interesting that Geelong beat the team 3rd on the ladder but the top 6 best/in form players weren't at their best.

I think it's because we share the load better this season - can only be a good sign for the rest of the season knowing our top 6 can all step up.

Absolutely tore us to shreds Saturday night, with 88% DE in driving rain, he's miles ahead of Cotchin this year.

What a silly post. Cotchin has been one of the elite extractors this year, maybe you like the look of outside players more?

Harsh there. 23 possessions 2 goals, 6 tackles, 6 clearances and a disposal efficiency of 96%

Output was well down with a tight tag without Swan and Thomas. Had little impact on the contest in the first 3 quarters I thought. Went missing for extended periods in quarters. Beefed up his stats late in the last quarter (when the game was well and truly over). I'd have him sliding a little.

I thought Pendles was very good against Melbourne. He was so clean with his disposal, didn't get 30 touches but did not make a single mistake with it. Had 12 contested possessions & 6 inside 50s also. Thought he was actually very good in the first quarter.
For mine he would be just outside our top 5 for the match, I thought he was very classy all day.
