So it seems Fed troubles Djokovic more than Nadal, as someone who doesn't have foxtel or enough bandwidth to watch streams is there any particular reasson for this?

Oh and Serena fined $2000 BTW, I bet she just opened her wallet and already paid it...

Not sure about this particular match, but it tends to be because Nadal relies heavily on the lefty-forehand-to-righty-backhand crosscourt exchange. Works great against Federer with his one-hander, but Djokovic loves it because his backhand is his best shot. Also, Nadal's serve is relatively poor and Djokovic being such a great serve returner means that he can attack it pretty consistently.

Federer on the other hand has a better forehand than Djokovic so the natural forehand-to-forehand crosscourt exchange advantages him. He also has the ability to junk up his pace and spins on his backhand, whereas Nadal is far more consistent. Djokovic is very much a rhythm player who likes consistent pace and spin, and he struggles against players who don't give him that. Hence the reason Tomic put up such a good fight at Wimbledon.

Basically, the top 3 is a bit rock-paper-scissors. Nadal is a bad matchup for Federer, Federer is a bad matchup for Djokovic, Djokovic is a bad matchup for Nadal.

Looks like Nadal won't be winning a grand slam any time soon.

He wouldn't like to think so.

Didn't he say Novak's feat this year was impossible to be repeated? :D

Beneath the cool exterior the guy is seriously fuming underneath. I could just picture him throwing the remote control at his big ass plasma tv when fed choked from 2 sets up. Fed in the final would have guaranteed him adding another GS title to his collection. Rafa ain't a happy camper that's for damn sure.

I was picturing that as well :D Its funny because commentators asked Nadal about what he thought about the Djokivic/Federer semi just before he played Murray and from his response you could tell he was upset that Federer didnt win :D

Nadal = Paper
Federer = Rock
Djokovic = Scissors

However the Scissors on some occasions can carve the Rock into dust :D

Absolutely incredible from Djokovic. What he has acheived this year is probably the best in the modern era.

The 3rd set was amazing tennis from both players and I have to give it to Rafa. He could of cracked mentally like Federer does against him but he took it right up to Novak. In the end both players were struggling physically and it was Novaks accuracy from both wings that enabled him to close out the match.

The first 3 sets were as good as Tennis gets. Some obscene shots and rallies.

I just hope the big 3 are all up and firing at the Aus Open next year. Hasn't happened for a while...

Poor Rafa. Getting a taste of his own medicine and then some.

This is what happens when a player matches Nadal on a physical and athletic level. Nadal is exposed for a slight lack of talent. Can anyone actually see him beating Djokovic EVER again? The winning streak could stretch to ridiculous double figure proportions next year. Rafa should seriously consider retiring now ala Bjorn Borg to preserve his legacy.

PS: It's amazing how close Djokovic was to completing a calendar grand slam today. Only a 30 year old Roger Federer turning back the clock at RG prevented him doing so. Must be a huge chance in 2012 with Federer another year older and no one else seemingly ready to step up.

He could of cracked mentally like Federer does against him but he took it right up to Novak.

Seriously? Federer is past his prime but still stands inside the baseline and actually attacks Djokovic like a real tennis player. Nadal defends like crazy and hopes he can outlast him in a brutal slugfest. I know who deserves more praise for the way they go about it.

You won't be saying that next year if Djokovic has extended that winning streak over Nadal to double figures.

I truly will never understand that logic, why on earth should a player should retire just to protect their "legacy". He's won 10 grand slams so far, that's his f***ing legacy right there. A player should retire when they don't have the desire anyome or as much as they used to. Ultimately, it's up to the player. But just because he has been beat 6 times this year by Djokovic that doesn't change how domiant he was in 2010.

Good final, really these two matchup so well for exciting rallies, such brutal tennis, over 4 hours of incredibly long rallies. I think the average was sitting in the 7's which is also a crazy amount given how big these two were hitting the ball.

Nadal needs to be a bit more aggresive, seemed to fail that in the 4th hence the blowout, as has been said, when it comes down to a player who can match him phsyically, he has to try and take it to the next step. Something he'll have to work on for the slams in 2012, can't start a rally 3 o4 metres behind the base line against Djokovic especially on a hard court. I believe he's a hard enough worker to be able to improve on this, whether it will be enough come AO 2012? Probably not.

Fantastic season for Djokovic, hope he conitunes the form post-US Open

Wow Novak, what an absolutely amazing year he's had. He's showing he's got massive heart and can really dig deep when it counts. Well done Nole :thumbsu:.

It's too early to just write off Rafa just yet. The guy is 25 and has 10 majors to his name. People are quick to forget the level he played at last season. However, since Novak has this year stepped it up to a completely new level, Rafa needs to do some serious homework if he's to beat him in a final anytime soon. I agree with matt_897 in that he needs to be more aggressive and perhaps win some easier points when he's being matched physically. Most other players cannot match Rafa in that department, but Novak can and is really making him pay in these finals.

In other news, lolserena $2000 fine. Why did they even bother...? :eek::rolleyes:

Hardly. He'll come down a level over the next few months.

The reason this season has been so impressive has less to do with improving his top level of play, but the fact he's been able to sustain it for such a long period. He's not actually a better player than he was 18 months ago - he's just been incredibly, uncommonly consistent at playing his best tennis. That doesn't last forever.

Personally I doubt he'll finish his career with more than 7 or 8 Slams.

I was referring to how Federer cracks mentally against Nadal, not Novak. Novak and Fed's matches are of the highest quality so I don't criticise the way Roger plays. Nadal does moonball but you have to admire his determination.

Djokovic has improved his forehand and serve since Wimbledon last year and the biggest factor has been his improved fitness. You won't be seeing the old Novak for a long while. Djokovic outlasted Nadal yesterday physically even though his back was stiffening which shows just how fit he is these days.

Anyone know who the commentators where on Eurosport? Thought they really added something to the game. Were quite good.

We'll see. I don't see him winning many more Slams. Maybe a couple next year, and then one or two for the remainder of his career - unless nobody steps up and he gets a chance to preside over a weak transition era.

He's benefited a lot from Federer's decline and Nadal's indifferent form. Sort of feels like this generation's Jim Courier, keeping the seat warm for better men.
