What happened to Matosevic just saw he reitred at 1-3?

Changed direction to get to a ball and badly rolled his ankle (pretty much a full roll, it will be replayed on the news, it was ugly). Then his ankle pretty much blew up like a balloon while the trainer was looking at it so no chance he was going to keep going. Looked like it was going to be a long slugfest from the early goings...

Ebden should be getting ready for a Davis Cup call-up, even though I would of picked him anyway above Matosevic.

Damn such bad luck for him. Yeah i agree i rate Ebden higher the Matosevic. He is ranked in the 120's they should gave him the WC to push closer to the top 100.

I think I mentioned it before but I really think they looked at the qualifying draw and saw that Ebden had an easier draw so they gave Matosevic a WC. Although, he did also qualify for Wimbledon so I guess that was a deciding factor. Didn't matter in the end, Ebden had a bad loss and Matosevic rolled his ankle...

I thought Ebden's doubles results over the last few months would also give him the edge over Matosevic for a Davis Cup

Just a couple of Women's matches - Dokic won in straights, will face Jankovic.
Jarka won the first set against Benesova, currently on serve, 1-1 in the second.
Cornet serving for the set against Dellacqua, 5-4 up.

That's unfortunate what happened with Matosevic. Hopefully the injury doesn't put him out for too long. Oh and all our players are Yugoslavs:p

Casey loses 7-5 6-0. Jarka won 7-6 7-5. But wow it wasnt good. 16 Double faults and over 50 unforced errors. Surley her coach has to tell her not to try hit every ball for a winner. Doe she know how to construct a point. Most likley she will take on Vania King next. She should get through there.

Li Na has been useless this hardcourt season, no surprise there.

Jarka just got up.:thumbsu::thumbsu: 7-6, 7-5 against Benesova. Bit of a tough match going by the score, but sometimes it just takes a win to get things going, even if you don't play well.

Now I can go to uni.

EDIT: I wonder how many times Dellacqua held serve? Post shoulder surgery it seems she can't serve for shit, I'm writing her off.

She's never been a great server, always had a hard time holding serve but yeah it seems worse post surgery. She has some poor results since she has been back, not good...

Gajdosova played pretty poor like her results lately have been suggesting but she did well to get through on the big points, could of gone either way, she has got to serve better than that. No certainity to beat King...

Overall, a solid start for the Aussies....

Nadal really having to fight to account for Golubev here. Almost been a trademark of his to struggle with early round matches. So I wouldn't be too worried.

Did anyone see the Dimitrov/Monfils kissing thing? Monfils kind of put his face up to his like he was gonna kiss him on the mouth, before they decided to be "European"....... Strange

Golubev had 7 set points in the second set and was up 5-2 and serving in the third set. Rafa is lucky it didnt go the distance.

He's lucky he didn't lose in straight sets. Nadal is playing terribly but will still breeze through to the latter stages as not many have the nerve to put him away.

Can you imagine how dull the Women's game is going to be with no Williams' sisters...it will actually be farcical. There'll be 4 different slam "champions" every year.

Women are so inconsistent, it is absolutely ridiculous.

Saw bits and pieces of the tennis yesterday, Nadal looked sluggish but got it done in 3. Djokovic, loved that result, just the 44 minutes on court, couldn't have asked for anything better. :)

Sam won 6-3 6-4. She was very solid today agaisnt some Coco chick who is a big hitter. As i picked in my draw Mchale beat Bartoli so makes her draw a bit easier IF she beats Petrova. Roddick didnt look that great against Russell. Hoping Sharapova picks her game up now.

*thank god for the person who invented Internet Radio streaming*

The US Open tennis is Australian Television ratings poison, on at the worst possible time no wonder there was no hesitation to shunt the tv coverage of this tournament off to foxtel

Although if it was on One or FTA being able to watch the night sessions in the mornings (especially if youre at work - workplaces that have TVs) are great (case in point - the baseball, the NBA)

Only in America would they change tennis into a bizarro version of itself

A tiebreak to decide the final set for matches: what the? But the Americans wanted everything finished in a confined package

Isner and Mahut would be grateful but tennis purists (who hate tiebreakers in the first place) would be saying "Leave the game alone!"

edit - *looks at where Flushing Meadows is on Google maps* its on the western region on the island where Montauk is

The match on USOpen radio is Sharapova vs Yakamova... but the commentary is so modern you really dont know whats really going on on the court

Give that job to Dwayne Russell

Did Baghdatis refuse to shake Isner's hand at the end of the match ...or was I seeing things?

That would of been big news so no.... Plus, Baggy isa good bloke. Probably the best match of the day that, had an epic TB there in the 2nd set. Isner has a good draw here to make the 4th.

Another good performance by Sam today, she had a letdown in the 2nd set where she got broken and gave Coco a bit of life, glad she was able to break that 9th game or that match could of got away from here. But overall she is playing some good tennis and making the quarters and losing to Lisicki is looking more and more realistic.

Roddick was just pushing absolutely hilariously tonight, getting out hit by Michael Russell. Seriously, what does Larry Stefanki think about when watching he his matches, surely he must think this guy should be a 1000% more aggressive and he would be having better results. And Andy is a smart bloke, surely he knows what he is doing wrong. And his draw should still get him to the 4th round...

Happy with the OOP, Tomic's match should be done before I have to go to work. Dokic match will be at 1am for anybody staying up, not expecting much.

I think I might stay up to watch Dokic, 1 AM isn't too bad.
Tomic will play match 3 on court 17 directly followed by Jarka on the same court.

I'm hopeful of Sam beating Petrova. Petrova has a better head to head record but Sam beat her in straights the last time they played on grass. That should give her confidence. If she can get through this you'd expect her to be able to defend her QF points from last year. Just hope she hasn't got some mental R3 GS bogey thing after this year's results.
EDIT: oh and **** US Open website, the videos are not working (except for the ads of course, bloody bastards!)
