I daresay, this is an absolute golden opportunity for Stosur to make the final. Lisicki the real threat to her, I reckon.

If Lisicki wasn't there, I would say Sam should make the final but I can't see her beating Lisicki. I really think Lisicki will beat Vera, Lisicki playing good tennis and full of confidence and her game is trouble for Sam.

On the match itself, it was actually a decent quality match, it's not often that happens during one of Sam's drama filled matches but Petrova really picked up her game for this. Sam did let that lead go in the first set but managed to win it but the second set, the match points saved Petrova were well played and allowed her to ride the momentum into the 3rd. Sam came up with a good gameplan and eveuntally it payed off in the third set made some nice shots and Petrova started to tire towards the end with her 1st serve dropping off completely. Kirilenko up next she should beat but did well with her match on Ashe.

One of the better matches I've ever seen Sam play. High quality tennis, Petrova was playing off her tree. Sam could do some damage here imo.

Wozniacki really is an exceptionally mediocre player. Just watch her!!
she is the best counter puncher in womans tennis, she wins so many matches simply by frustration of her opponents. Have rarely seen her hit more than 15 UE in a match, having said that to actually win a major she needs more offense to her game, the best hitters like serena hit consistently big shots every match.

Lisicki is a bit of a flat track bully so to speak, against opponents much smaller and weaker she dominates if she plays well, against players that hit as hard as her and serve just as big she struggles a bit. Sharapova in the semi final at wimbledon is a case in point. Stosur has the better all round serve, much more variety, lisicki however has 1 of the biggest in the womans game, i see a semi final matchup between these 2 if stosur can get past her bogy opponent penetta. A spot in the final is there for the taking.

I think she meets Zvonerva/Lisicki in the semis provided she gets past Kirilenko.

Looking forward to Stosur v Kirilenko. A chance to support an aussie whilst perving on her opponent.

Stosur Vs Kirilenko 3rd on Athur Ashe tomorrow. After two mens matches so maybe around 5:30 6:00am. Intresting to see guys like JCF and Monaco reaching the 4th round winding make the clock. Wish Haas had got through over Monaco though. No way anyone is beating Williams.

To be fair, it's not like JCF has had a very rough ride for a former champion. Monfils is a pea heart. You knew he was going to lose that match as soon as the first two sets went down to the wire.

I think that'll be a QF match up, will play Penetta (assuming she get's through) in a SF. She's Penetta's bitch, although she did almost beat her the last time they played. Anyway this is Stosur we're talking about, I'll be happy enough if she can defend her QF points considering the season she's had.
She was also in terrible form last time she played Lisicki and although she lost in straights, she wasn't actually smashed. Also one of the news channels showed Petrova doing some weird showing off her muscles thing, was she having a dig at Stosur?

USO scheduling is terrible btw, you should not have different round matches running simultaneously in singles. ITF should tell them off.

In other results it was good to see Hotdog get a win over Karlovic. I don't think he's done much post AO so hopefully this will give him confidence.

Nothing too surprising today, wasn't overly surprised with Federer losing a set to Cilic, Cilic is playing some solid tennis again and his hard ball can give Fed some trouble, came down to a few points here and there for each set really.

Fish is looking good, Anderson is playing career best tennis at the moment, Tsonga also pretty good, Tsonga and Fish will be a lot of fun in the next round. Would like that to be the night match on Ashe but given it will be Labor Day, they will cater to CBS and put it on the day. And Berdych's shoulder eventually gave up on him, Tipsy to make the quarters, considering how many upsets or close matches he has had at grand slam level, it's about time.

The women is all about Serena, Azarenka did her best in the 2nd but it just wasn't going to happen, will absolutely kill Ivanovic in the next round.

As said before, Sam will be playing 3rd on Ashe not before 5.30am, I wonder how much of the crowd will stay for that one. And Benneteau and Roddick are playing beforehand and surely that match might be the pushiest match in history (I'll admit benneteau has some impressive results over the alst fewweeks)

Kirilenko is much like Wozniacki but without as much consistency, she is defensive and powerless.
Except she is smoking hot.. Wozniacki well i dont know what people see in her.

I would expect Stosur to beat her if she is serious.

I will give her credit, when it looked like Kirilenko was going to float into oblivion, she re-invented herself as a really defensive player. It’s definitely worked for her, she’s a pretty consistent player at the Slams these days, but there’s no doubt her game is boring and her grunt is getting worse each year.

Hilarious schdueling for the Stosur/Kirilenko match, were about 10 minutes too late to play on Ashe (they really did have enough time to play) so they have basically moved them to TBA where they are waiting for a court to free up, couldn't even bump a women's doubles match... Enjoying this Del Potro/Simon match though.

Roddick was much better this morning.

Far out people discuss which is the "worst" GS, i think the uso takes the cake due to scheduling. Roddick finished ages ago, as if they couldn't have put Stosur on directly after. Obviously they were worried that the match might eat half an hour of the night sesdion up and the tv station would be annoyed. And then they priorotise a ladies doubles match on grandstand over it, lucky i don't go to uni til 2 today.
