Apparently the boys from Mentone have lost a couple of guns to the bush - my mail says there are at least two off to Cohuna. I have also heard that things are a little flat at Brindisi. It is early days though.
Good call Mal. Was having a beer at the Edgy last week and heard its not a happy place - some factional infighting between the "St Bedes boys" and the real mennoners? might be behind the defections.

Is there any truth to the rumour that Passador and Nayna have walked out at Old Scotch, apparently due to a 'difference of opinion' with Coach Banfield?

haven't heard that one, don't have much insight into what goes on with the cardinals. OM's have lost a few too. I hear Neil Morrison has gone bush.

I have heard a fair bit of dead wood from the OM's has been despatched to Finley - big call for down hill skiers up that way and OM's graciously obliged with three or four!

Re: 2011 and Mal from Malvern

Mal,before you start your rumour file, make sure your info is correct.

Nayna has left Old Scotch for only one reason and the club he has gone to is very weathly.Fact. He and Banners got on really well and he actually won Banners Coaches trophy last year.Banners was shattered that he was leaving.

Also Pass and Banners are good mates and the only reason Pass came to Scotch was for Banners and is Vice Captain of the club. And they get on really well.

So before you spread crap get your facts right and dont start the trash you are starting.Your post is just trash.

Hey Bigman, Mal from Malvern is correct on more than one of those rumours (ie Finley poaching Nigel Morrison and Tommy Whorne and some other old Club XVIII types from OM's and Nayna going for more cash than Scotch could offer him), so maybe where there's smoke there's fire? Anyway, how come nobody is talking about whats happening at McKinnon Reserve? Very quiet at Bloods. Surely there must be three or four former St Kilda players looking for a new club this year.

Mate ,

i play at Scotch and love the club, banners is a great bloke and is a good coach.

And mate the players really like him.Like all coaches you cant please everyone.

And if any one begs to differ come to training one night and everyone will see that.

I am just over fools like mal from MAL FROM Malvern bagging our club and banners WHEN HE HAS NO IDEA.

Also we dont pay cash and perhaps we should be congratulated for Nayna leaving as money was his desired outcome.

OS found out about the P.I. and the amnesty and let him go I hear!

revolving door down there at old scotch.. they come from clubs that pay then go back to clubs that pay, maybe they decided that "playing for the love of the game" isn't what it's cracked up to be? :p

I shall give you 1/3 Mal. The 2 going to Cohuna are Berty Collins from SBMT and Graham from Old Mentonians. Not really considered a loss as Bert was not even pulling on the boots this year until Cohuna called and offered him a squillion a game plus sign on.

The St Bedes boys will be up and about this year, have potentially snagged 2 of my shark boys as well as getting several more back.

Some sad news from Dairy Bell oval with the official announcement that Ben Corin and Ben Mannix have both decided to hang up the boots for season 2011. I have included a small testimonial that was circulated to the DLS football community for both players who I'm sure you will agree have contributed significantly to shaping the amateur footballing landscape for the past 20 years.

Full credit to both players and all the best for the future. You will be missed.

For the 1st time since making his senior debut in season 1996 the big number 3 Ben “BC” Corin will no longer be running around Waverley Park as he has decided to hang up the boots and put the booming kick and “the fist of justice” spoil into mothballs until he receives a call up into a past players match. BC is one of our most decorated players and is ranked at 5th on the all-time list of games played with 254 and 209 of them in the senior team – a truly great effort. He is a past Captain of the Club having been captain for 4 years, a state player at Under 19 where he was Captain in 1998, and at senior level twice where he was voted best on ground in the match versus the VCFL in Ballarat in 2008, he was awarded Life Membership of our club in 2009, a premiership player in 2003, was on the committee for over 10 years.

After debuting with the football club in 1992 and having played in every team in the club the freak that is Ben Mannix the number 30 on the back of the trademark long sleeved jumper hanging loose will not be there, and in many ways Amateur football will be poorer for it. His jumping, his elusiveness and his uncanny thinking where he would either kick the impossible goal, or to see space where there appeared it was one of the things that people would talk about after the game. Opposition clubs would talk about him as if he was a magician and in many ways he was. He was the player who made the ball do what he wanted. He was unstoppable in the 2003 B section grand final win, his game in the A section preliminary final of 2009 where he kicked 5 goals helped us into our 1st A section grand final in 17 years, in the grand final he conned the umpire by getting a 25 metre penalty to kick a goal to kick start our comeback in the last quarter of the 2009 grand final. His career was 263 games but it was more than just games, and he has won everything and achieved so much – senior premiership player in 2003, best on ground in a grand final in 2003, club best and fairest in 1998, and awarded Life Membership in 2008. Seeming to just lope casually after the ball he would then deceive all by accelerating to the ball and weave magic. The ball would come to him, and he seemed to be able to anticipate the bounce. In one word Ben was uncanny. He retired mid-season last year and such is his generosity that he helped out the reserves by working with some of the younger players and becoming the match day runner and assistant to Dom. Quite simply Ben Mannix has been a terrific player for our club.

Can anyone give me any info on Horne, Kennon and Morrison From OM's, how will they go playing in the "BUSH" this year.

I think I may have mentioned in an earlier thread - if their team is 5 goals up and going with the wind they'll be great.

The real interest will be when the going gets tough. None of them have from what I am led to believe shown any real quality when the pressure is on. Kennon and Horne spent most of 2010 in the twos and Morrison was overseas and would be a fringe player at the Redlegs this year from all reports. Perhaps they have smelt the breeze blowing at the Junction and decided on an easier life. Former Old Xavs player and new coach Darryl Landrigan is apparently cracking the whip and not playing favourites with anyone.

Have seen them all play a bit. Horne a very skillful onballer and Kennon a mid size forward. Probably both at end of amateur careers but certainly not front runners. Probably would not play much A grade ones but good pick ups. Morrison is a terrific footballer. Young and very quick but some disposal issues. Has some aggro belying his size. I am sure they will all contribute to their new team even when the going gets tough.

Morrison has serious defensive deficiencies - he needs to rectify this to be classed as a terrific footballer.

I thought it was David Lonergan.

Kev, Horne missed out on the senior side for OM's B Grade flag back in 2009, so that probably says a lot for him. I saw a few games Morrison played a year or two back and he was pretty feisty you are right, but I reckon he has probably been eating too many pastries in Europe for 12 months and has more than likely now lost his key attribute - pace. Anyway, is it Ned or Neil?
