anyone see the cricket show yesterday and the fast bowling comp?

that indian bloke bowled the fastest (and thay speed was the fastest in the comp overall) but nicholas called it a no-ball and it didnt count.
then the last bloke bowls a no-ball and somehow it does count and nicholas gives a big speech about how no balls are ok and the last blokes ball counts but the indian's is still not allowed??

Taylor talks way too much, and when he gets together with Slater and starts talking about NSW then you just want to punch him in the face. But he is actually pretty insightful on occasion. Chappell is probably alright if you haven't been exposed to him too much, but he's been saying the same stuff for 20 years and most people are sick of hearing it.

I definitely think that they need to actually sit down and work out a new way to broadcast televised cricket. When TV started they just threw radio commentators into the fray, and ever since they have just been adding more content to fill the gaps. There still seems to be this attitude carried over from radio sport that dead air is a problem, which isn't always necessarily the case when you have visuals.

One of the sports I think does television best is snooker, and I reckon a big part of that is because their closeness to the players means that the commentators (by necessity) have to be very unobtrusive and sparing with their commentary.

Soccer commentary used to be the same. They'd let the pictures do the talking and just add names, occasional comments, etc.

Never ending talk by TV commentators when you can see what is happening frustrates me no end. AFL commentary is a classic case in point.

its almost like awkward silences at parties or social get togethers. someone feels the need to say something to break the ice.

some will argue that snooker is a slow moving sport so you dont need to talk. this is an opinion that i disagree with strongly.

the indian guy bowled the second fastest bowl of the day, the guy who bowled last on both occasions clocked 141kms and 142kms, to weather or not it was counted the guy who bowled last still bowled the fastest balls

The Indian bloke (not that I would have called him that considering his accent indicated he's been here since at least childhood) was apparently like a meter over the line and the other guy was an inch or so.

As Nicholas said, they've been pretty consistent on that.

It's a great cause, but it does get a bit relentless.
+1

Although it has given Slater, Taylor, Nicholas another topic to bang on about today other than trying to talk up Sydney as much as possible all day long!

lol they wouldnt would they, just as well old Geoff Lawson isnt in the box as well

Have the sound down barely audible so if anything happens I turn it up but mostly its left down low.

Best: Lawry ( he is the best, just an out and out great caller) , Brayshaw ( where is he this summer), Nicholas ( I don't know why I love him so much but he is great) and I used to love Tony Greig ( RIP)
Good: Taylor ( I like him, very knowledgable, great cricket mind- does get caught up with Slats and Healy too much)

Ok: Chappell ( never really liked him but great cricket mind however holds a grudge), Benaud ( has aged greatly, find myself switching myself off when he is on which is a bit sad), Slater ( when he commentated the Ashes In 2005 and was on ABC I really liked him, he is pretty good when he commentates with the older generation but I cannot stand him with Healy, it is like they have skuled red bulls and are having a talk shit off)

Shit: Healy ( I seriously hate the bloke, racist, ignorant, flog, speaks that much shit).

Cannot rate yet: McGrath ( I like him, but lots dislike him so I will hold judgement)

Lee (same as above)

Chappell shits me no end, his constant negativity is grating and never offers any real solutions.

His consistent tirade for many years against the games administrators is tiring, yet he refuses to offer his services in any capacity towards the games administration.

I was stunned to hear he was a selector for the Stars, can only imagine it was because Warne begged him to do so.

Don't mind Chappell, Lawry, Benaud. Hate Slater, Healy, Nicholas, Slater and Healy aren't commentators they are shit talkers. Lee's not bad also.

they were absent injured, not retired out, according to the scorecard

Actually it was Sangakkara retired hurt, and I thought that Jayawardene went the same way in the first innings, but apparently not.

You know that whole game is on Youtube?

Feel free to give it a watch :p

Someone needs to tell the commentary team that the public is showing extreme goodwill putting up with ads for The Block DURING an over, and continuing to talk about even after the ad has gone while the cricket is continuing isn't funny and is the sort of intrusive shit we shouldn't put up with.

Taylor called his wife a blockhead very early in the test why would you say that with 2 a large number of viewers.

Did Slats just say the Sri Lankans are ranked #1 in T20.....and A LOT HIGHER in ODI's ???

I understood that fine.

He was talking about how they are better at limited overs then they are at Test matches.
