Wish they would go back to bringing in a commentator from the touring team's country like they used to do back in the day.

When networks bring their own commentary teams out it may be rather pointless as they then don't have to put up with 9's men.

As for Adelaide, hopefully Bill's back in the box.....

I recall that Dennis Commetti called some cricket when 7 showed the Australian tour of South Africa back in '97. (I think David Hookes and Drew Morphett were there too) Fox8 showed the games live and screened Simpsons in the lunch breaks (this was when Foxtel had no commercials). Good memories!

In Adelaide, McNamara will introduce ''augmented reality'', which will take the commentators from the studio and insert them as a 3D figure in graphics or historical footage. Despite all this, the cricket on Nine is not yet shown in high-definition. ''We do shoot everything in HD and it's actually downgraded to go to air,'' Crawley says.

''We do not have the spectrum to show it as yet. The government won't let you. We don't understand exactly why that is … Our trucks are all HD. It's a political thing and the same for every other free-to-air sports broadcaster. But it's not forever. In the goodness of time, HD will be out there.''

As far as I'm aware, the only government restriction comes from simulcasting. Whereby if ch9 want to show the cricket on gem in HD, they must also show it on the regular ch9. Due to the way simulcasting rights works, they have to show it with the same ads, so they lose some ad buy. As far as I'm aware, this is the only reason they don't show it in HD. I'm not 100% certain, however this is what I understand from various sources. It's a bit of a joke if true mind you, and definitely no ones fault by ch9.

Exactly the same as they did with the Olympics. So long as it is on the primary channel no later than the digital only one, it is legal.

For those with foxtel: Not a commentator, but doesn't anyone else hate Robert 'Crash' Craddock? Belongs on C9...knows absolutely nothing about the game, isn't funny, tries to be blokey and is arguably less intelligent than Ian Healy (potentially a little unfair but goddamn close). ****, I hate our sports commentators/journalists.

+1 for Bil Lawry. He really is a good commentator, he can have a bit of a laugh and so on but he also is pretty astute and not afraid to get stuck into players/captains when need be.

So long as Bill Lawry is commentating the first ball of the first session of the Boxing Day test, I can put up with the rest of the bullshit from the amateurs.
