I swear if I see that dragonfly cam again I'll puke. Adds absolutely nothing!
It is an amazing piece of technology though. Watching it today at the ground, it was fantastic how it can be maneuvered and controlled, through massively long cables from the light towers.

Of course, the fact that it's very clever doesn't mean it's necessarily a good idea to use it.

Hayesman, Pollock, Mbangwa, Wessels, Ackerman, Jackman, Matthews is a pretty solid lineup SuperSport have on their hands. I love how the best three (Jackman, daylight, Mbangwa, Hayesman) are a Pom, Zimbabwean, and an Aussie.

Imagine if Nein had something like this... http://www.supersport.com/cricket/content.aspx?id=20716

They still don't hold a candle to Ian Smith, Mark Richardson, Simon Doull and the Dilmah tea party.

Looking forward to the England tour of NZ next year, the last England tour there was a ripping test series and had some great commentary with a mix of the English and Kiwi Sky commentary teams.

This was the highlight of the series.

So true. The Dilmah Tea Party was better when they did it outdoors and Riggor and McMillian were involved. Nowadays it's mostly Doull pressuring the guest into drinking the tea if they haven't taken a sip for a while, haha. Morrocan Green Mint :thumbsu:

Shane Bond was coming on nicely, but assume he won't be involved this season. Can't stand Doull myself, I hate how he seems to be SkyNZ's representative at ICC events and such. I wonder why the don't try to lure Danny Morrison, he works all over the place for Ten Cricket I think.

Athers and Gower are pure class and I'll be severely devo'd if they aren't over for the series. Although SkyUK always sends their own commentators on England tours to put together a different telecast, and usually one or two of them filter over to the host broadcaster's box.

Massive lols at that video, never seen that before. :thumbsu:

I think he is talking about the other camera that is independent of cables, hovering outside the ground most of the day. I'm assuming it will replace the spidercam once it's reliability is 99.9% ie won't just drop out of the air and hit a fieldsman.

The spidercam is annoying though, it gets too close to the field of play.

I wish the commentators would just shut up occasionally. It's just continual 'mouth open/brain flatlining' stuff.

They must have been told to leave no 'empty air' while the transmission is on.

Especially when you have one NSW commentator after another. I'm not a poster who goes around bagging the blues for the number of players that get picked for Aus, but the commentators do no favours to the players in the way they go on. It's embarrassing.

Brett Lee has joined in, I thought he'd be a bit more sensible.

They make older commentators like Bill Lawry sound highly reasonable and professional.

I know this is meant to be about Ch 9, but I'd like to mention how completle hopeless Drew Morphett is. I remember a ODI game from about 2-3 years back, when one of the Aussies was dismissed bowled. The ball just clipped the stump and it took a second or so for the bail to drop, but it was OBVIOUS from the replay. Anyway Drew spent the whole of his commentary stint complaining that the guy wasn't out and that the umpires were off their heads. I don't mean that he mentioned it in passing; he went on and on and on. He came across (quite correctly IMO) as an ignorant, biased twat!

Does anyone remember this?

i purposely schedule out of office meetings during the cricket so i can sit in the car and listen to abc. there's just something magical about listening to teh cricket on the radio isnt there?

as for homer commentators, there are some shockers world wide. in USA for example, in the NBA, each team has their own commentators (Look2Me4Guidance Vincent Chase can elaborate more).

for example (9-10 second mark - guy yells MISS IT)

could you imagine healy et al doing that?

This is exactly right.

Homer commentators are shocking as well was those who don't know their craft. Michael Slater quote from yesterday "if he bats for a lengthy period of time, he will amass a score". Commentators have a responsibility to correctly pass on information to their viewers.

Here is an example of how not to do it.

I'm sure Vincent Chase and peternorth would be in agreeance.

I do this sometimes.

Some mates think I'm crazy. They're not my mates anymore.

JVG is pretty neutral. Says it how it is no matter who is playing. Can't think of many more though.

Magic Johnson = Michael Slater?

Both state the obvious and very rarely get off the fence.

Cheeky ribbies from Heals to Slats there.

A good commentator should stay on the fence. If they want to barrack for a team they should buy a ticket and sit in the crowd!
I wasn't meaning in relation to teams.

More so opinions in general. Rules, Umpire/Ref decisions, players form etc...

Chappell really has a hard on for the hook and pull shots, cowan played a poor shot when we are trying to save a match he wasn't unlucky to find the man.

The bloke spent 150 overs ridiculing SA for shutting up shop and respecting a boring draw and he is still defending this aggression at all times approach even though the safety first SA have proven their method has it's place.
