2012 AFL draft rumors

Oh my, I guess I was always going to run into the narrow minded statistician!

Let me guess, with those parameters you obviously work for the ABS and still hold hope that this current government is going to deliver a surplus.

Oh, and if you're still looking for the answer to your question and the disposal efficiency stats you posted are correct then the answer is staring you in the face!
I'm not sure which part of your post is funnier - probably the fact you specifically said that more statistics would be useful then criticise someone who replies as being a statistician.

To address your other points: the current government is a joke, the stats are official and from the AFL, and you obviously don't know how disposal efficiency is calculated and this shows in some elite kicks being behind Kane Cornes and Jake King. For example disposals that travel a short distance are more likely to be scored ineffective, whereas kicks that travel 40m+ to a contest are scored as effective. Which is one reason why inside midfielders have lower disposal efficiency. Gary Ablett is an elite ball-user and he was at 69% this year. Dal Santo was at 70%. Pendlebury 71%.

TLDR version: Looking at disposal efficiency stats is nowhere near as useful as actually watching the prospects play.

My guess is that the statistical response was a way of saying that you need to take into account where the players are playing when you look at their disposal stats.

All of group 1 are inside mids, so they're always under pressure. Haven't watched Boak or Jack play much, but I know Cotchin and Mundy are well regarded for their disposal efficiency. The second group are either back flankers, forward flankers or Kane Cornes (whatever he does these days).

The numbers by themselves are meaningless... context makes all the difference. I don't think many would take one of the guys from group 2 in preference to one from group 1.

OK then, can anyone rank each of the more popular 1st round prospective draftees by SC points........that'll paint an accurate picture......

Regardless, I've watched a few of these so called highlights packages from some of these more popular youngsters and their disposal at times, whether in traffic or not is poor! My guess is it'll only get worst until they adapt to the pace at AFL level.

I'm still interested to see efficiency stats for the draftees if anyone can post some.

Oh, and whilst Gary Ablett usually is an elite ball user, certainly times this year his disposal was poor....it's just he had around 50 of them at times. Granted this was due to the inexperience of his team mates not assistant or being in the wrong position.

Those rumors are false. Kangaroos are the only club that have spoken to him and that was ages ago.
Sometimes we don't speak to players until the day before or 2 days before if we are worried someone might pinch him.

Maybe so, but he laughed when he heard the rumors that the Tigers had spoken to him. He also doesn't reckon he'll get drafted and has already signed up to Frankston's VFL team for next year.

You guys might still talk to him in the coming day or so but as I said, he couldn't believe it when he heard you guys were in to him.

i hope we pass on this guy, just looking at the photo. his gonna be a problem

I wouldn't mind taking a punt on him with one of our second rounders but something tells me he could be another Troy Taylor.

He has the talent though for sure - could Choco help keep him on the straight and narrow?

I hope all the rumours about Simpson to Freo with pick 17 are true would absolutely love to have him running up and down Subi

You could get him at pick 40. Fairly confident neither WA team will pick him up.

I thought that was Garlett.

Yes sorry misread :D was reading errols and somehow got them mixed up.

Have heard that Simpson won't get past Gold Coast and that Port are a good chance to take him.

If neither WA team picks him up he probably won't get drafted at all then. The young family stuff will deter Vic clubs but Freo and West Coast would take him unhesitatingly I'd have thought.

EDIT: Damn you Masto! I reckon Garlett will still go top 30 though, the attitude concerns didn't stop Darling getting picked up even though he slid quite a bit.
