Ok so i know theres a draft thread but its never being clear what we use each of our picks on. I think our first should be a FF. and who do we upgrade at the end of the year?

I think its clear we use our first picks on speed and class, we have Smith/Wallis/Libba to win the ball but who is going to use it well for us (not saying they are bad kicks, but I mean we need linebreaking speed and elite kicking) so lets get us a couple of mids and we could easily have one of the best midfields in the comp. Think about it, whose going to win the ball over Libba Wallis and Smith? Then they will get the ball out to Dahlhaus, pick 4 mid in the draft, pick 5 mid in the draft (just assuming) who will run the ball quick and then pinpoint passes inside our forward 50 :)

Then maybe our next pick can go on a full forward (or if there is a certain mid who we want that we know is going to be around at our next pick we could take a FF first up) either way I want 2 gun mids that can KICK this draft!

I think Cordy is more of a resting ruck who can play forward better than most, if that makes sense.

T Hill we havent seen enough of yet but I really want to see him and Redpath is making big improvements and has unlimited potential, so hopefully one of them works.

Well Redpath is a natural FF, super strong, contests, quick to lead and a good kick, i think its just the rest of his game that needs improvement. i think the reason they don't put Tom Hill in the 22 is because they use him as a ruck mostly at willy and the fact we are already playing 3 makes it hard

Yeah I agree Redpath could be anything! But I dont like Hill playing ruck tbh, he is not a ruckman and is only playing there because Cordy and Roughy are in the seniors and Campbell is injured. We need to play the kid forward so we can see what he can do there!!!

I like Hill and cordy. Redpath has a bit to work with as well. They've all got question marks over them though. This includes Jones, Grant and Panos. Perhaps the one with the least question marks is Hill but he hasn't been given a shot yet and might not be ready.

That being said I actually think our tall forwards will be fine over time. Not stars but serviceable. What we really need is pace and skills through the midfield AND up forward. Also our defence is getting older by the minute. I'd be focussing on getting a good KPD before trying to draft another KPF.

I do have faith at least one of Roberts/Talia will become an AFL quality defender though.

Yeah i agree with out fading defence but when Lake goes Marko can hold at FB but id put some muscle on his arms. we still have Williams, Aussie, Fletch and even Panos if need

I dont think we have any massive gaps any more really, everywhere has at least serviceable coverage, we just need pace and skill throughout the team (especially midfield though)

What about Luke D, Jason Tutt, Ryan Griffen & an inform Justin Sherman. What about Lin Jong and Alex Greenwood? From reports Lin Jong will be elevated. Tall Forwards: Tom Hill, Liam Jones, Jack Redpath and Matthew Panos will they be traded or delisted? Therefore a need to draft another young power forward is required?

Luke D, Tutt, Griffen and Sherman are all well and good, but Griffen is getting on a bit (I know hes still young) but by the time were ready will be 28 and still hopefully playing awesome footy but will need some help. Dahlhaus and Tutt I will give you even though I see Tutt playing more as a HBF but you never know. Sherman well hes okay, but nothing special and the other 2 are rookies who could be good or could not turn out anything special. 2 top 5-10 mids will be awesome especially in this draft.

Other than Griffen and maybe Dahlhaus none of them will be real superstars of the competition (well hopefully but not likely) and thats what we need, a real superstar out of this draft (I'm talking top 5 player in the comp)

Edit: The more I think about it though, if we could get Mason Shaw (I'm guessing thats not likely but?) a GUN fast/skillful mid and Lachie Hunter, that would be awesome.

A lot of the forward problems will fix themselves once we get better users of the ball in the side.

One thing that's worrying is a lot of our promising forwards can't kick at goal to save themselves. Jones, Roughead, cordy and to an extent Grant all have troubles when lining up for goal.

From what I've seen Hill doesn't have this issue and can also kick them from 50. He's also got pace and can take a decent grab. I hope he gets a chance pretty soon.

A bit surprised there is little mention of what I would see as a fairly desperate need, that is for a lightning fast genuine crumbing small forward in the Jetta/Rioli mould. If as I suspect Del. is headed for the midfield, our forward half is at best pedestrian.

I think JJ could be perfect for that position but maybe even move into mid like Dahl!
He certainly has pace, but I have yet to see him play as a forward, only as half back or mid. Therefore I have no idea as yet, as to either his goal sense or accuracy. He may develop into an option, but I would still love to see us with one of those pure natural small forwards. Even if JJ can fulfil that role, not a lot of harm having a couple on the list.

Yeah I guess but I wouldn't want to take one too early in the draft, also isn't Hunter meant to be a goal scoring HFF?

Hope we get Toumpas, he will be like Dal, starting off as a tricky little small forward, but with more class by the sounds of it. Then graduate to the midfield.

He'd be a very good get. If Port finish lower than us, can't see them passing on him though.
