Go for quick mids only we have enough insides

I am happy with the concept of Hunter. I know a lot of posters have said we have to many inside mids. But Boyd and Cross [ and I am not one of those who want to see them pushed out], are reaching the twilight of their careers. When they retire we still need the capacity to cover any injuries to our inside mids.
After that I don't care much what type of player we target, just so long as they are quicker than most of their peer group. We need to add lots of speed into our mix, or we are going to get burned big time over the coming seasons. The game is getting faster by the week, let alone by the season. The Devil shall take the hindmost.

its all well and good to have quick inside mids, but its no use having good mids if we cant kick a winning score ... we have to develop tall forwards for once to compliment the mids....

If we take best available in whatever position we can't really lose, except for a ruck, we have three or four of these already, unless we lose Minnow....

Still want us to take the big full forward if possible, someone like Patton or Pav would be fantastic.

We are developing tall forwards - Jones 21, Redpath 20, Cordy 21, Hill (20?).. Because they arent dominating yet doesnt mean we have to draft more. It just means we have to wait.

I agree we need a gun full forward. Now whether that means drafting, trading, or developing from within, I don't care. But what I was suggesting was that what ever type of player, mid, key, flanker, stopper or ???? we acquire, I would like to see them be quicker than their likely opposition. We need to get back to breaking all lines with pace. We need guys who can, will, and do RUN!
At present our opposition has far to long to set up, before we get the ball to our forwards.

Add Roberts to that, although he is playing backline at the moment he was drafted as a forward.

There are likely to be a few KPF in the draft, Kristian Jaksch, Marco Paparone, Mason Shaw along with the minidraft prospects of Hogan and Martin, and a few for next year as well, so the clubs that need one should be able to find one, therefore we should hopefully be able to pick up at least 1 in the second round if we need to, top range midfielders should be the go for early picks.

Nick Vlastuin is exactly what we need. I was down watching Vic Metro v Tasmania today at Visy Park. Complete footballer. Powerful, tough, smart, exquisite skills on both sides, clean hands etc. They had him playing a kick behind the ball and at almost centre half back marshaling the side. Wasn't involved in much going forward but still managed to finish with 28 touches. He is a general on the field and one of those players where everything he touches turns to gold. He doesn't have to do anything and he impresses.

If we were to take Vlastuin and someone like a Toumpas or a Menzel type player with our first 2 picks I'd be very happy. I don't see any talls in this draft being worth giving up a pick so early. We could set our midfield up for the next decade, and all these players bring versatility and scoreboard impact. And I'd hope Dalrymple stays clear from a purely 'outside' type player with such early picks. It could spell disaster. We need complete players.

I think our second rounder should be where we look at drafting a chb/chf/ff, maybe someone like a Jaksch if still available etc

I doubt we will be forced to give up a second rounder for Lachie Hunter, he basically will need to be worth a first rounder for that to happen and he won't be. I think hes talented, but he isn't a star athlete by any means. I think a 3rd rounder will be his go. Played a nice game today, but.

I'd be surprised if he lasted past Melbourne, he is exactly what they need, a complete midfielder who is hard at it with leadership potential, is prob one of the safest picks in terms of you can tell he will be very good too.

Fingers crossed Melbourne are forced to take Viney and go for someone like Grundy with their other pick.

Well i think one thing is for sure, we are not tanking and we are not blooding kids, we are genuinely trying to win every game with the standard 22...and its a joke because MC cannot honestly expect to get very far this year and the year so far has proved it. i would be trying the kids like Tom Hill and were we finish up is were we finish up

Libba, Wallis, Dahl, Wood, Jones, Roughead, Cordy playing every week isn't blooding kids?
Guys like Howard and Tutt have been injured all year, Clay Smith has played a few games, but his tank is a long way off.
Talia and Roberts aren't ready for AFL yet. The only young guys who could arguably be getting games but aren't are Hill and Panos.

You can only play who you've got, so how is that not blooding kids?

We are playing them regularly. The guys I mentioned are playing every week.
Hill and Panos are both talls. Panos wont fit into a forward line that has Cordy, Roughead, Jones in it, so he would need to be played on the HBF, which is also fairly contested with our team. Hill is the same, we can't fit everyone in. I'd say both will get a chance during the year, but it's impossible to play them all regularly.

mmmmm. this is when the 3 ruck dilemma comes in again i don't think they should have roughy in the forward. Tom Hill and Panos are both natural forwards roughy is not

well maybe abit or rotation between the kids that go forward

Panos can't play in the ruck at AFL level. So take Roughead out for Panos, and that leaves Cordy having to be the back up ruck, which he isn't the best at.
Hill is a better forward than ruck, so take out Roughead for Hill and the same problem is there. Cordy has to play ruck more, with Hill being in the forward line. Who knows how he would ruck at AFL level.

Once again i find myself agreeing with his majesty, this is a worry:D
On a serious note , we can see it the media can see it, the opposition can see it, why cant the MC, unless there is some sort of master plan we are not aware of.

sorry mate you must have read that wrong, take roughy out of the forward line and i don't really mind at this point if he gets a game or not just as long as its not in the forward. then put in either panos or Hill

But then if you keep Roughy in, who do you take out? It would need to be a tall, but then that leaves the team very tall.

It's a good problem to have though :p

I understand what your saying Igloo, But Will is quite capable of holding down the ruck with assistance from Cordy, Hill and Jones. Cordy playing the ruck instead of being forward is half the problem.

its a hard one but if it were up to me id have a natural forward out of Hill and Panos in Roughys place in the forward

I wouldn't be putting Jones anywhere near the ruck, and Hill is an unknown quantity rucking. Much more a forward. I guess you could take the chance against teams with a weak ruck division.

agree completely. Hill should just stay forward and keep Jones completely away from it. Mino can handle the ruck himself

How quick is he? Is he more of a bulldozer or does he have evasive ability? line breaking ability?
