Dayle Garlett is on top of my wish list now. Classy with the ball in hand and has got speed as well. Would fit in nicely for us.

Have my eye on a few others as well. Lots of quality players this year. Looking forward to the next round, in much better conditions at Etihad.

someone on the D&T board said Garlett has 'issues'. Im just relaying it, cant vouch for it or not etc... take with grain of salt.

Got kicked out of the AIS academy, and he had issues at home that forced him to move out, but he has since moved back home.
Here's an article from The Age.

DAYLE Garlett runs fast, kicks well and makes good things happen.
Hundreds of teenage footballers have lined up for their state sides in the under-18 championships, but the West Australian is in a smaller group that has asked people to watch him.

Interesting last comment about preferring to leave WA, considering his 'issues' might have sen him drop to Freos pick (assuming freo mid table)

'Chris' from D&T board has this to say about the super draft not really being better than other drafts (apparently Emma Quayle agrees)

"I've said for a while that this draft isn't that much better than usual. There is only one ruckman, few tall forwards and just a handful of really top line midfielders. The key defensive stocks are the only standout group. I'm expecting a lot of good, solid players but few elite standouts. "

Really just restating the obvious, but its imperative that we get two of the 'handful of really top line mids' with our first two picks, and that those two be classy evasive line-breakers who can kick goals. Toumpas, Menzel, Garlett, Mayes, maybe Stringer - these types of players.

Yeah I read a few articles about these 'issues', not sure how much is in it but I'm sure he'll be fine.

Right now (with my limited viewing of the prospects) my favourites for us to draft are: Garlett, Stringer, Toumpas and Josh Simpson. Looking forward to seeing the next game to give me more of an insight into it.

As an aside, Toumpas will be playing 2 more games this year before he goes in for hip surgery.
Before I heard of that, I wanted us to get him and Stringer, but both having an injury worry concerns me. Stringer is my favourite though, so I'll always hope we get him.

And there is Kennedy the midget. I think we are specifically looking for mids that can kick goals , I suppose if he could rove goals when playing forward that would be OK. Has been comapred to Kangas Harvey, and he can certainly hit the scorebaord when forward.

Yeah, Kennedy could be a good pick. We might have a bit too early of a pick to go for him though, if we go for best available. It's going to be very interesting who we go for.

From what I have read he is a super duper fast ball magnet who kicks goals, and would probably play as a forward from round 1 considering he is already playing SANFL and is 76kilos (which isnt skinny for a 174cm player)

Just was having a look at the mock drafts. Few thoughts...

I agree with others about Stringer and Garlett. Stringer's broken leg shouldn't be a problem in that it shouldn't affect his kicking/athleticism/speed. According to Knightmare he wouldv'e gone #1 if not for his injury. Garlett seems like the kind of player we need, Quick outside mid. Both sound like they have very good footskills.

I read a lot about Emmanuel Irra last year and I really liked the sound of him. Still pretty raw but aparently has incredible kicking skills. I reckon we should focus on good users of the ball this year's draft.

I'd also love for Jimmy Toumpas to slip to us. Seems like a really classy player.

Re Toumpas, if I've remembered him correctly, I think he is currently in his second year of senior SANFL footy, which is pretty impressive, i.e. ready to play.

Yeah I'd love to see him with us, but more likely he will go to Port. Unless we finish below them probably he won't be available.

I think I floated his name on this board around the time of the SANFL grand final.

Im starting to think the only way toumpas will drop to us is if:
1) we finish lower than Port
2) GCS/GWS force Melbourne to take Viney with pick 3
3) GWS picks up Grundy the ruckman
4) Melbourne, having secured one mid in Viney, decide to take a keypo

All of that happening si pretty unlikely.

Realisticly I see us taking 2 out of Garlett, Stringer and Mayes.

Wouldn't be unhappy with Mayes. I'm good mates with his older brother and have seen a fair bit of him in junior footy and when he was playing A grade country footy as a teen.

His skills look pretty good but only seem him in the champs. You have seen him play how would rate his skills, running and speed. Shame with Toumpas likely to go top 4 is that he works very well with Mayes - you could see Toumpas looking for him running into space.

He's bloody quick. His old man is a champion 400m runner, good genes there. Skills are great too.

So looking at the matches coming up for us, I can't see any of them being winnable. We play Brisbane away, Hawthorn, Carlton, Geelong, St Kilda and North the only two I would have put down for a win would have been against Brisbane, (but after the last game I have put a cross through that) and Norf, who seem to have improved since we beat them.

However, Port who is one game below us, has to play the Lions at Home, GWS and Melbourne. You would think two of those three they would win putting them above us on the ladder. I think they could pinch another game against an interstate WA team playing at home.
Melbourne has to play Freo at home, GWS Gold Coast and Port Adelaide, you would think that they should win two of them maybe three which means they could finish above us, although highy unlikely. I put Freo in there because Melbourne has a good record against them playing at the MCG.
Brisbane has to play the Gold Coast and Port Adelaide, and are already above us on the ladder.

Therefore we could finish as low as 14 or as high as 15. We know Viney will be Melbourne's first pick - (Sheedy will make 'em take him) and for that matter we could put a bid in on him if we finish below Melbourne, But theoretically we could pick up the third and fourth round pick.:)

Wouldnt be surprised to se the AFL award GC a priority pick, and maybe even GWS to throw another spanner in the works.

I don't think they would dare, there would mutiny in the AFL if they did. It wouldn't hurt them to award us one, considering we would be a much better team with Ward and Harbrow in it.....

There would outrage. No way will they do it this year. If gold coast still suck really bad next year they might, but they couldn't this year (i hope). It's GC's own fault they were crap in getting good older players, and went more for youth.

Let's call it the Clayton effect;)
