Nadal first round matches are boring as hell anyway. It was a decision between Federer and Nadal to be put on Hisense, easy choice.

I can't work out how Tomic/Verdasco is not on the night session, that confuses the crap out of me. Easily will be the match that would get the most viewers at night for Seven and Federer would be on the day (prime time for ESPN in the US) so everybody would of been happy. Can't figure that one out and don't get me the whole "past my bedtime" crap, he's a "drawcard" now, deal with it.

Going to be good weather too so there will be a massive crowd, MCA is always hard to get a seat, having Barty and Mitchell one on SC2 and other on SC3 should allow for a good seat at both.

Night match will be fun on MCA, providing the Sydney final actually gets started
I'm not lying I swear, I had Nalby/Jarko the MCA night match on my schedule right until the moment I typed it.

I'm staggered they didn't put Tomic on as the night match, as for the reasons you listed, it made perfect sense to do so, and yet they're putting him on the middle of the day??

I think my plan for the day goes something like:

- Del Potro
- Berdych
- Safarova/McHale
- Nadal
- Nalbandian/Nieminen

:thumbsu:

I think Safarova/McHale will be a tight match, plus I like them both, and plus I want to see at least one woman's match a day.

Safarova/McHale on a back court is a bit strange. Not alot of seats so you might have to get to the court early. I remember last year i wanted to watch her play when she was on an outside court it was packed couldnt even get a seat.

Yeah, I think once Nieminen made the final he almost ahd to be put ona s the night match or it would be a tad unfair. But it should be a real good match and now I know I don't have to run off home to see Verdasco/Tomic, can sit myself down at MCA for the night.

For me I always go see the Aussies, at least I know I won't have to wake up too early as Casey is the only aussie up early on and that'll be hard enough to get a seat anyway. Maybe SC3 for a little while with Fish/Muller, I just have a feeling Fish might have a diffcult time with Muller. Rezai/Peng should be a long match too. But then will be floating around the otside courts with Rogowska out on Court 6 and then others later in the day.

Yeah, you would think Safarova/McHale might sneak on a tv court given ESPN's influence but no.

Honestly I agreed with Tomic a few years ago. Sure, hardly anyone else complains, but it needed to be said. Starting a 5 set tennis match at something like 9:30pm, regardless of how much us audience appreciate it, is frankly unacceptable. How can you expect an athlete to perform at their best in the hours surrounding midnight. This is different to a football game (that probably starts around 7:30 anyway) as it's just you out there and a lot of precision is required.

Tv ratings rule, sure! But Athletes should not be forced to begin a couple hour game late at night. Rod Laver Arena should only have one night game beginning post 7pm.
I love watching good tennis, but I feel for the players sometimes. Mucking with their sleep patterns in such a big tournament is frankly unacceptable.

i think the organisers just schedualed the tomic verdasco match during the day because the surface is quicker during the day (gonna be 31) in the hot sun and tomic like a quick surface, verdasco generally slower.

I've got a spare Adult ticket for RLA tommorow night in the lower section if anyone's interested. Row A, Section 8.

I just want back what I paid - I think $67 or something like that. Just shoot me a PM if I've piqued your interest.

Fantastic decision, Tomic (and Hewitt) for that matter should get priority choice, and why shouldn't they...the rest are as useless as anything. Tomic wants it quick, play it during the day, simple. That said, Verdasco has a decent 5 set record, have a feeling Tomic in 4.

Great win from Casey there, Jovanovski accounted for her easily the previous two times they played so to reverse that result is a great effort. Casey definitely looking fitter than usual, we'll see if translates to results though. She'll face Azarenka foghorn next.

Anyway its Bernie time now!!!!

Gotta feel for Tomic's draw IMO is a tough break still has the talent and form to progress. Here we go, cant believe he's only 19.

It doesnt get easier for Tomic though

He might get through Verdasco but if he makes it through round 2, some guy called Roger Federer awaits him in the third round

The Ausopen radio commentary is not buying into Tomic's pre-Australian Open form winning a few exhibition matches at Kooyong.

Odd but this thread is pretty dormant at the moment? The Aus open thread is usually very popular: and theres no cricket today
Everybody's probably there, or at work.
Anyway Bernie looking a bit passive for mine at this stage, burnI guess it is to be expected under the circumstances.
