2012 break out

Jones will go up a notch this year to become the standout inside mid IMO.

Others will obviously progress though and I hope Magner gets an elevation so he can show us what he's got.

No point listing players whom I can't wait to see improve as I am pretty much looking forward to seeing the whole squad - NAB will be very interesting.

Last year we had no gameplan, were the unfittest team in the comp next to Port, lost our coach and didn't have the on-field leadership we needed. If we can go a long way to addressing these aspecits in 2012 then forget listing just players it will be MFC having the break out year.

Agree with your last paragraph RandB.
I would love to see Fitzpatrick and Spencer have good years and play a number of games in the Seniors.
We have invested a lot of time with these guys.
It is time for some pay back from these two.
Go big guys!

Expect to see me there, earphones in, tomorrow morning.

Again, where exactly do they train and how does one access it from Richmond station

If Fitzy and Spencil are getting lots of game time, then the season is not going well for MFC...

Your boy is going to have to watch that sling tackle at AFL level. Just in that video there were 2 that I reckon he would've got reported & probably suspended for plus another 2 that probably would've at least been free kicks against him.

Love the commitment & aggression, he absolutely smashes a few blokes in those tackles, but no point getting rubbed out for it.

Jordan Gysberts from promising midfielder to a key player to drive our midfield.

Cale Morton provides great drive out of the half back.

Dan Nicholson/Rohan Bail become regulars n provide much needed pace to our midfield.

Watts, Howe and Jurrah to be a damaging forward line. if only they got more supply.

After watching the boys train today, I am convinced either Martin, Howe and Pettard will have a breakout year. Personally I think Pettard was about to explode into the scene in 2010 if he didn't get a season ending injury.

An alternative view is that if Fitz and Spencer are playing is that they have replaced one of your better players.
It does not necessarily follow that if they are playing then someone better is injured!
This time last year a large number on here had Martin gone at the end of 2011.
Guess what he had a great year.
If you follow the theory that big guys take longer e.g Jamar
then both could have big 2012 seasons.

that magner kid makes good decisions and tackles like trengove. me likey.

why did he slip so low? cos he's older and smaller?

and why hasn't he been picked up before now?
Average skills, speed and size. Similar to Valenti and all the other VFL midfielders who get either picked up or looked over each year.

That doesn't mean he can't do a job like Curnow did for Carlton or Lower did for Freo last year.

It's all about playing a role under Neeld, and Magner can play a role. His role will be to win stoppages. Which we are the worst in the league at. This is why I feel he will come straight into the team if no one else stands up in this area pre season. We need to have another option other than Jamar to Moloney. It's too predictable. Magner can win the ball. Yes, his skills and pace are just average, but he can play his role in winning the ball and dishing it out to players who can run and use it. He's a good tackler and a great competitor and is exactly what we need in the middle of the ground. I can see Taggert playing this role in a few years time as well. The kid looks like he can play that role.

But Taggert also has brilliant skills.

He does look good. Makes me wonder why he was hardly in anyone's phantom draft? Was hardly talked about pre-draft. To me he looks like he will make a good midfielder in the Lenny Hayes type mould. I think he'll play at some stage this season for the Dees...

There are a dozen or more players who could gave a break out season, hard to just pick one.

I'm excited to see how Jurrah goes. I know he's an obvious one, but I felt last season was disappointing despite bagging 40 goals. With Clark now headlining the attack, it takes a lot of pressure of LJ, who we all know doesn't like having to burst packs. Hopefully he is freed up to play more as a crumber and I hope that the new coaching regime have instilled a strong defensive mentality in him. Forward pressure needs to be his main focus.

I agree. I've said this previously, that a fit and firing Jurrah could mean an extra 10,000 fans through the gate to watch him play. :thumbsu:
He is the potential excitement machine that our club has not had since the 90's with Schwarz and Farmer and Jakovich. Research has shown that kids go to watch the stars of our game just as much as they do the clubs. They follow Buddy, Judd, Gazza and Goodes as much, if not more, than they do Hawthorn, Carlton, Geelong and Sydney.

Looking forward to seeing Cook play myself.

And yeah, he must play. Don't want another Lewis 'my coach has no confidence in me' Johnston

I'm on board the Jarracann ! Even more after reading his book and learning how confident and even cocky he is. Not to mention his self belief that he can turn a game on his own boot. 40 goals of a bad season is a positive for sure. I am concerned that Neeld and Co will be serverly strict on him more then others, particularly on his defensive skill. Neeld was part of the crew which turned him down at Collingwood so hopefully his fair with him in the Red & Blue. Why, because of the above comments.

He'll get a couple of games hopefully, but I wouldn't be suprised to see him spend another year bulking up and playing VFL.

I'd expect 30+ goals from him in the VFL though.

Lucas Cook isn't ready. Seen some VFL games he was in nothing really standed out besides a couple goals per game.
Seller iso ne im really excited about, i don't like Garland running out of that back line trying to be all Frawley like. Needs to just get the stop and dish to the runners in our backline.
Blease is exploding with talent. Perfect fit to swap with Trengove, Davey, Grimes ect.
already proven he can set the team up from his running bounces from half back.
Jack Watts needs a minimum 30 goal year now that Mitch Clark will be the main focus in oppositions backline.
Trengove needs to prove himself without Scully at the club.
Davey has to get back to his old form get possesions, set the team up and kick goals.

A bit to like and a good base to work from, but didn't find a lot of the ball, and went missing for chunks.

You mean like he did in the first half of last season?

Scrap that. The whole of 2011. Scully did next to nothing for us last year...

I will bet my left nut that Garland is going to play the same role as o'brien at Collingwood with running the ball out of the backline or running the lines on the switch and booting it forward. And respectfully so because Chipper & Rivs are better at holding down opponents and wearing them like a glove.

As for the rest I agree with you except the Trengove thing, but I wouldn't be suprised if Scully & Martin are clearly better players in a year or two. We are cursed at not producing superstars
