2012 break out

l think this year will be better than last but it will still be a growing year under new coaching panel. 2013 onwards is when we will start pushing right up the ladder.

Colin Sylvia needs a big one.

While he is getting more and more consistent, I believe if he pulled it all together he would be top 20 in the league...somewhat of a Mark Riccuitio(sp?) clone... But alas, he drift through playing a game of note here and there, still not fulfilling his potential... If he does this could poll quite well come Brownlow...

Jeremy Howe for me.

*First full AFL preseason.

*A big presence in Clark to now take some heat of him, Watts and Jurrah. This will allow Howe to work up and down the ground more and use one of his great strengths, his endurance.

*More confidence going in to his second AFL season. He now knows he can play at the level. When you hear him use his voice at training you would think he is a 5th/6th year player.

*He is a competitive beast!

The bolded is an excellent point; from when I've been down at training he just radiates confidence.

Agree on Howe, natural improvement for young players like Watts, Trengove etc. means they should improve a fair bit, I think Trengove will be among the elite midfielders by the end of the year, hoping Grimes can come back, play a full season and remind everyone how good he can be

I do wish the club would be a little more transparent with preseason injuries. According to the website, all the players are flying. Why then when I get to training do I see Sylvia, Grimes and McKenzie out there for 10 minutes doing sweet bugger all? Three super important players. Tell us how they're tracking.

We'll see what they're up to in the morning I guess.

I think Rohan Bail if he stays injury free could have a huge year and a huge impact, and both Wattsy and Howey to start to show signs of being competition stars:).

Hoping the forward line comes good with the addition of Clark...

After last seasons break out expect Watts to continue on his path to stardom. Can see him dominating two or three games this year, 25 possies, 8 to 10 marks and 4 or 5 goals.

Howe, Jurrah and Petterd should all be better than last season with Clark as well.

Morton - cant believe we gave him two more years, **** the break out, ill be happy for him to break into the senior side.

Tommy Mac - Can see him cementing a spot in our best 22 before the year is out (hopefully at CHB)

Trengove - Dominance, i can feel it coming.....

How optimistic of you. It's like you haven't been supporting Melbourne for the last 40-odd years :p

I know that at least I’ve said it before, but if Col Sylvia can't get his act together under the new regime then it simply isn't going to happen for him. He has all of the tools to be a top 10 player.

Comrade AM - we just need Sylvia to play against Richmond, week in, week out. That 24 x 3 brownlow votes.
What is it with him & Richmond?

He must hate them as much as we do.

2012, provided he has no more freak injuries, will be the year that Grimes takes his game to another level. He will on par with the elite half backs of the competition (Shaw, Enright, Deledio, Gibbs etc) and will be fighting out for the captaincy with Trengove in 2013.

I'm hoping for another break out from Bater (similar to 2007 when he came 3rd in b & f), if he can return to the form he showed at Casey in 2011 under a new coach I'm sure he'll be given a proper run through the midfield rather than in and out every other week.

Also excited about Grimes, Watts, Trengove and Bail.

From what I saw at training it looks like Bate is being groomed as a tagger. Seemed that way during the few mid drills I saw. Tbh I can't imagine him being anything more in the centre of the ground.

Matthew Bate in the Midfield.

After hearing whispers on his preseason performance. I had to go down to watch him train to believe it. But the rumors are true, he is killing it in the running groups, particularly in the repetitive 300 and 400 hundred meter running and skill sessions. I am predicting a similar case when we almost traded Jamar to Port Adelaide and then out of no where Jamar pulls out a career best season.

Besides that I reckon: Grimes & Jones

Agreed and i also think it is beneficial to have a strong body player like Bate playing on the wings and getting competitive in stoppages. Him and Morton will arm wrestle all season for there positions.

I think pretty much anyone would be thrilled if all they had to do was beat Morton in an arm wrestle to get the job. :)
