i love the fact 7two have decided to cover this, great form channel 7!

great win by bernie, really tough grind out on clay and didnt spit the dummy....too much. we should be happy with this

Giving up that easily on Hewitt in the Davis Cup? Hewitt is more than a chance to win.

Not giving up on him at all but realistically tough against a guy like Mayer best of 5 on clay.

If Bernie had lost it was a must win to stay in the tie, now he has won, this becomes sort of a free hit. The pressure is on Mayer to win.

Yes you would think whoever wins the doubles wins the tie. If we win they'd have to bring Petzschner in and make the Hewitt game a war of attrition wouldn't they? Losing in 3 against Mayer better than losing in 5 for Hewitt for the rest of the weekend.

That first set of the Tomic match was probably the worst quality men's match I have ever seen in my life and probably even worse than a number of women's matches I've seen. At least Bernie picked up his level a bit though, even if he did have a few lapses like going down 3-0 in the 4th. Hopefully in future he can get himself a better serve though, he needs to take advantage of being so tall.

The Hewitt match was disappointing, honestly thought it would be a bit better but oh well. I can see why Mayer beat a while ago though, very talented player.

Thank heck Kohlschreiber isn't playing is all I can say.

Yeah, forgot to mention that, ignored these forums because of it. You would notice Seven changed their symbol from live to sport as well. Silly Seven.

Much needed win by the Aussies, it looks to be going to a 5th rubber unless Mayer goes off his game.

I would if I was them.

Hewitt bossed the first two sets of the doubles, then the Germans finally clicked on the hit it at Gooch strategy and Hewitt also noticeably tired, a lot of ground shots into the net and really struggled holding serve.

It's actually a good test for Tomic tonight, and not on a win/loss basis as again I expect Mayer to win comfortably, but whether or not in a cut throat davis cup match Tomic will fight for every single point.

he won 5 more games for the match after being 3-0 love thirty up on stebes serve. to me he went in tired and sore as hewitt just went to s*** after his lead.

Man, props to Lleyton for all these years battling his heart out in DC matches.

But this one just sucks. Golden opportunity to get back into the World Group, and we've fluffed it. Who knows how long it will take now to get back there.

That was really disappointing. Tomic we really needn't say more about, he was an absolutely different player at the start of the year. Also the commentators constantly carrying on about clay courts really shits me. Clay has nothing to do with attitude, not to mention the women always manage to get a few wins on clay, even when they are struggling (e.g. the likes of Dellacqua and Molik winning a couple of matches at times). A major part of the season is on clay, bloody get used to it.

I feel sorry for Lleyton though, probably couldn't handle the 3 matches in three days at this point. In hindisght it seems we would've been better off going with Matosevic for at least one rubber. Can play on clay, and actually gives a yelp.
Anyway, can't beat a German side without Kohlschreiber and Haas, we do not deserve to be in the world group. Lleyton has carried the team for years and given everything, if Bernie comes out of this ridiculous bullshit phase he's in we may get back in one day. grr I really want to go to a Davis Cup tie one day though, thought I might get a chance next year :(.
