Jaksch I just don't see as having the tools to be an above average KPF. He could be that as a KPD but I don't see him as elite. I see him as one of those mid-range key positions who does a job but doesn't really turn games. Henderson might be a good comparison. A nice to have if you don't have anyone else but you would hope for better.

He has a high floor and a low ceiling. Personally I pass on him and take a few high ceiling risky prospects with out second and third picks.

I've only seen him play a couple of times, so am miles away from being an expert...but I walked away with a question mark over his ability to win his own ball, especially after the game against Tassie...but perhaps that was just the role he was playing for Qld?

I've seen comments from others saying that he holds his own in that regard. Can someone more familiar with him confirm?
Yeah Bob, without doubt the question marks are on his ability to win the contested ball. I think he is certainly capable of it, it just isn't a natural inclination to burrow under.

In saying that, he is very good as an outside receiver. Reads the ball really well and is a great kick - but the kicker for me is he can rack up big numbers. We so often hear about outside players who are a good kick and have pace but only get 15 touches a game. Because he reads the play so well, Boston has the ability to have 25+. One thing to keep in mind is that he has the ability to play anywhere on the ground. Has kicked 7 goals playing as a small forward in the NEAFL and a few other hauls as well. Probably best suited to wing/hbf.

To be honest, from what I've read and in the games on TV, the only difference I can see between Colquhorn and Boston is their address. Maybe Colquhorn has the runs on the board at SANFL, but Boston has certainly impressed in the NEAFL.

Thanks tll. We're certainly in agreement on the other aspects too. Was really impressed by his ability to be where the ball ended up. So often it looks like the opposition are actually picking him out with their kicks.

If you reckon he can win the pill when he needs to then I'm certainly more inclined to use pick 33 on him, even though we've probably got more pressing needs elsewhere.

Interesting comparison to Colquhoun. I reckon Boston actually shades him for footskills though.

Forgot to add. Does our culture need or can cope with an injection of FIGJAMS on the list?
I reckon we've got enough grounded young'uns to put a rookie in his place.

We seem to have a pretty well grounded group. It would be interesting to hear from recruiters the role arrogance has in whether or not they recruit someone. There have been a lot of very arrogant, very good footballers.

Speaking of which, we're yet to hear if the club's planning a draft function again this year. Lions_Insider?

Unfortunately often it does not work like that. The so called grounded ones are more susceptible to a FIGJAM's influence and disruptive behavior. That’s way structuring a good list is as much psychological group dynamic matching as purely talent recruiting. Garlett for example I would not have in my team even if he plays for free and I get to draft him with pick 249.

There won't be a dedicated Lions draft function this year - however you are able to register for free tickets through AFLQ. Details to come shortly on the website.

Awww...dang. :( (but thanks for letting us know)

Any chance of maybe rustling up an online post-draft Q&A with Kerr/Conole instead?

IIRC Docherty played most of his younger years in the midfield, it was only in his U18s year/TAC that he played HBF because they didn't have anywhere else to slot him. It wouldn't surprise me if Yeo was similar. We have a history of phasing our younger mids in through the HBF to give them that defensive experience first up - both of those two I would expect to transition into the midfield. Wearden I have no comment on, haven't seen him play much at all.

I think the question comes down to: what if all the mids that the club rates as guns are gone? Do we look at lesser talents? Depending on who's gone before us, do we roll the dice on players with injury clouds? Attitude problems? Or a solid KPP?

Yeah I hopetheir future is in the midfield,, yeahh you make a fair point in regards to us recruiting Jacksh we'll just have to wait and see how the draft goes down and who slides, Garlett woud be a great for our team but we've recruited players with behavioural problems before ie proud and it really hasn't worked out so depending on how his interview went hopefully we make the right choice

Everything I have read on BigFooty (apart from your post) suggests that he is highly confident, but not in a bad way. One of the phantom drafts even said that he had interviewed extremely well at draft camp. And the article on him, which had quotes from him, certainly didn't raise any flags.

Having greater understanding of the way Kerr operates now, I am sure this issue if it exists would be diligently reviewed and addressed.

I really like the way Kerr does things. Everything has a value, and it's all about getting the best value, trade or use the draft pick. We are pretty realistic with what quality players we will get with what pick, and how that value goes up against a traded player.

We are going to draft either O'Rouke, Macrae or Menzel. I love to get Stringer but a recent article pointed out that everytime Stringer gets a knock on his leg he limps and that is a concern, with factors like the sub rule and the physical conduct of the sport.
