THE AFL has scrapped its controversial 10-1 countdown at this year's draft, reverting back to the traditional style.

:thumbsu:

The AFL does not normally like to admit it gets anything wrong, so this is a good sign.

We are going to draft either O'Rouke, Macrae or Menzel. I love to get Stringer but a recent article pointed out that everytime Stringer gets a knock on his leg he limps and that is a concern, with factors like the sub rule and the physical conduct of the sport.

Fairly sure it refers to the article you're referring to that he started to sport a shinguard and it worked wonders. The man is a workhorse with a real passion for footy and I would love to draft him.

Yay. It was so very pointless and so very unclimactic.

Introducing it during the time of the expansion clubs didn't help. When one club has almost all of the picks in the top ten, there is little in the way of suspense, and all the effort that goes into it just makes it look lame(r).

Genius.

My god that jumper looks ridiculious amongst very clean and simple Port and GW jumpers...yes I know, wrong thread, but it just sticks out like donkey b....
What sticks out like donkey balls is the number of draft picks GWS got:eek:
Just so wrong.

It does doesnt it? It shows the pride of the Lion!

To be fair, the "old" Lions jumper would have stood out just as much.

Believe me, I have absolutely no affinity for the "Paddle Pop" Lion but calling it "ridiculous" in this context is a little over the top IMO.

According to chris who made the young talent time draft, jacksh will more or less end up being a Jarrad Waite/Nathan Bock, not elite but better than serviceable, so it depends if we want to pay pick 8 for that. I've finally decided that Plowman would be the best fit for us on pick 8, he could play 1st year as the third tall with patfull going to CHB, and Maguire to FB, with Merret to CHF or FF, i know merret is a better FB but when Brown retires he is the only one at the club or within reach of being able to become the power forward we need, when Mckeever and Clarke start improving further Plowman can make a move to the midfield (i know i've copped flack on here before about turning him into a midfielder but KM and Chris have lately been mentioning that other club scouts are starting to view him as a future midfielder and his skills would suit perfectly as the big inside winning mid, would be perfect for us) ofcourse this all goes down the drain if Western Bulldogs or GWS pick him up sigh. If he is available we may not even pick him up if we see him as purely a defender since we have clarke and tickner coming through next year

Or Chris could be wrong...

O'Rourke or McCrae for me, Stringer is a rich mans Lester with a shocking injury to deal with, never seen Menzel play.

Have said before - Menzel has acquitted himself at senior SANFL level quite well and to similar levels as Toumpas (not as consistently but played fewer games). I believe he's a more natural player than Toumpas.

Quigley or Offsider what are your thoughts on Jesse Lonergan, just reading Shifters Top 30 and he caught my eye as a big body inside mid, anything you guys have to say about him would be fantastic and could/should he go to us with 8?

Current AFL.com.au Mock draft.

Guess we'd be pretty happy with this...

Don't know who we'd de-list though....:p

Jesse Lonergan looks to be a decent prospect but one I rate as a second/third rounder, he is a very good inside ball winner and uses it quite well, doesn't have the upside some others do but is still a good prospect. I wouldn't say from watching him that he is anything but a solid athlete, I think his pace would be average hence he is more an inside player.

Quigley - is Lonergan too popular to be your div 2 gem this year?

I wasn't going to do one this year as I didn't think anyone was up to it. Lonergan was probably the closest but I didn't get to see him live this year which is usually a prereq for me. I am reconsidering the decision though and might go with him if I can convince myself from the tape.

Lonergan is a much better inside mid than Harwood ever was. I was a bit skeptical about placing him high up the draft order but I think he will probably go between picks 20 - 30 imo. He has a fair bit of talent, and his athletic ability surprised me a little, but he is very nippy and hard to tackle. His inside work is very good, he has clean hands, good disposal skills and makes good decisions. I think he is one of the better inside players available in the second round, but has the ability to develop an all round game.
For a roughie to make the top 10 - Jesse Lonergan to Richmond at 9. There is a fair bit of talk for Vlastuin to them at that pick but for me I think Lonergan is the better prospect.
