Thanks!

I just get home in time to watch it live!!

Jack Hannath has been popping up around in a few mocks this year. Given his increased development
and the Lions history of interest,I wonder if we will pull the trigger this year.

I actually don't mind the HF role that Mayes plays, and I think we don't really have a player like that. Someone who is a marking target up forward, and can roam up field. Kicking will add some class to the team too. Perfect type to have as part of the midfield, is tallish for a mid, and can rotate forward and still have an impact, not just rest. Will be happy if we get him.

Like a Ryan O'Keffe type chopper? All class and damaging, moving into the midfield adventually. i would be happy to take that

Quigs, offsides etc if you had a gun to your head and had to choose a KPP @ 8 for us who you believe will end up best down the track in this draft, who would you take? Daniher doesn't count either :P

I ask cause we seem to keep being strongly linked with Kristian Jaksch. I don't know too much about many of them but from exposed form and from what I've read I'm struggling to warm to using that pick on him.

Jaksch is probably the only one I would pick at 8. I think it is better to go small first up and then target any of Shaw, O'Brien or White at 24. Those 3 all have floors lower than Jaksch bit their ceilings are just as high if not higher.

I would say in my non expert opinion of having not seen him play a game, that Jakach is probably the better pick as he might work as a defender if he doesn't cut it as a forward. I think that adds value to him. But I agree with Quigs idea, go small first up, and a more speculative pick later. I think with KPP unless you can get the best one, your best of going high risk high reward. No use spending pick 8 on a serviceable forward when you could get an A grade mid instead. Much better use of the pick.

Will be interesting how we read the draft and who we take. Will be heading down for it on Thursday, can't wait.

I agree that we should go small at 8 instead of reaching for a speculative tall. I dont think teams should just 'waste' a top 10 pick.

With this in mind and all the talk recently of Grundy slipping (I think if he does it will only be to Port anyway) but if he did would you take Grundy and play him as more a forward/ruck instead of a ruck/forward?

I think POBT asked earlier but who do you see having more potential to fill that role out of Longer or Grundy?

Based on the reviews, stats and his obvious potential I don't think you could classify us picking Jaksch at 8 as either speculative or wasteful.

Would love one of Macrea, or Jaksch, at our first pick both have so much talent but it seems Voss might have his heart set on Mayes. Don't get me wrong but I have faith im our medium/Small forwards and don't see the point of Mayes unless were picking him for a midfield spot and then there are better mids avilable like Macrea Vlastuin and even Quigs favourite Lonergan which is intresting I wonder if Quigs gave him to us beacuse he wants to say we got longer and lonergan with two sucessive no. 8 picks

MacRae is the one we've been rumoured to the last couple of weeks and I can see why, the problem is I'm not sure how long it will take him to become an AFL midfielder. The same problem with Mayes. I personally prefer Mayes purely for Decision Making and Skill execution, as I've said the games called football and Mayes has the best feet in the draft. I think we should go taller with 24 and/or 33 rather than 8 the problems being Plowman's height and Jaksch consistency (See South Australia then Tasmania games for example). Pongracic is also a ready made midfielder who will be available at 24 as is Lonergan.

How does Jaksch compare to Tomlinson who we were keen on last year?

Personally I prefer Jaksch to Tomlinson, but they are different players. Tomlinson is the better athlete, he has great endurance and is more of a lead up CHF type. Jaksch is the better contested mark out of the two and is imo the better forward prospect.

Also there is nothing wrong with picking Mayes up as a half-forward/winger he will be more classy and better imo then most HFF's we have on our list. He is a better player than Karnezis who plays a similar role and provides us with a point of difference. I personally rate him at no 5 in this years draft. I am still

BamBam10 I rate Jaksch as the second best KPF in this years draft, but i would pick a small up at pick 8 as they are more talented. I think that going tall will be best at pick 24, unless a highly rated mid slides through. Ben Kennedy appears to be a slider according to media reports and I would be all over him at 24, depending on how he interviewed of course as rumours have it he will return to SA at the first opportunity.

It was a much, much weaker draft last year and personally I wouldn't see Tomlinson going top 15 let alone top 10 this year. For mine the problem with Jaksch is consistency too often he faded in and out of games and the best game of his life was often followed by the worst, he kicked 6 against Tasmania and with the form he showed he would have gone only behind Whitfield, the next week against South Australia he couldn't do anything right, he wouldn't have even been rookied on the form he showed. For mine the only reason he is being considered that high was the charger's finals series and that one Tasmania game, as I said Tomlinson wouldn't have gone top 15 this year IMO but I feel the same about Jaksch although most likely he'll go early teens.

It's one of those drafts where it is so strong that we could potentially grab a 300 gamer with every pick, the talk this week is Grundy will fall to Port Adelaide at 7, while Longer last year went at 8, playing as a bottom ager Grundy had beat Longer easily for mine, yet they may be picked at the same pick roughly.

We also have those two lads in the next two years coming through the academy program that will boost our tall stock also, so Voss may go tall with only our last pick if at all.

Macrae, Mayes, Wines, Toumpas, Grundy...no matter what, we're going to get a jet at pick 8. All class, and then some. Choose your weapon!
Doesn't necessarily work out that way,we might end up with a guy who has had a lot of hype end up playing 15 games or none at all
In saying that I do like O'Rourke at a stab,as long as mummy's boy possibility has been given due diligence.

Footy Tragic's phantom draft is a very interesting read.

Yeah. Reasonable effort from our perspective in terms of need.

I do wonder if people are putting Jaksch to us because he is one of the best 8-10 players in the draft or because we're the club that has a clear need for a tall.

I think it's the later POBT. I think public opinion is we need a tall, and Jaksch is first cab off the rank. Don't think much thought has been put into whether or not we rate him that highly. We've shown we pretty much draft on best available, i don't think we are in that much of a desperate need to draft a KPP that we would reach for the best one available over a mid that we would rate a lot higher. We aren't flush with options, but we do have a touch of depth for our current KPP. Future needs work, but i think we might back ourselves to trade or FA talls in if we become unstuck.

Which brings us back to the eternal question - is pick 8 to be used on the player judged best available or to fill a need. Based on previous drafts in which Kerr has been involved, you would have to say we will take the best young player regardless of his fit. That would include Grundy if still available. Like 13Beast, I find the prospect of us getting any of the guns salivating. We will worry about whether they make out later.
