If this is right, then we have three spots on our rookie list for international players, Irish players and zone selections. Assuming Michael is a QLD zone selection, Newell the NSW scholarship spot then we have one more spot (Wrigley was a normal rookie selection wasn't he?).
I thought I read somewhere that Newell ceased to be a NSW scolarship selection when he was put on the official rookie list. I may be mistaken though.

I'm not sure to be honest. According to this;

While Fremantle will have four players on its rookie list in 2013, the club is allowed to have a further three developing rookies outside of the list of 44 players.

Moller fits into this category as a NSW Scholarship upgrade, with the other categories being International and Irish rookies.
Moller fits onto Fremantle's rookie list as the NSW Scholarship upgrade, which is what we did with Newell last year.

I put myself firmly in the "don't see enough of potential draftees to form an informed opinion" camp.

What I do see is usually from highlight reels and the like.

I'll say this tough......from the interview with Plowman that I saw on the AFL site, he really impressed as a level headed and likeable young bloke....one that would easily pass the No Dickheads test.

Oh yeah....and the highlights package looked really good too.
No one on Big Footy does ;) ......it's all guesswork.

Otherwise we'd be recruiters :thumbsu:

It's not like posters could tell why a player from SA should go at 25, whilst another player from the NT should go at 60.

But I do like the spirit and banter come draft time :footy:

There wasn't a special category for these kids prior to this year. Now anyone from the NSW scholarship scheme can be classed as separate to the normal rookie list, as Jas posted. The only question is whether it's retroactive or only applies to kids brought off the NSW scholarship scheme this year and on, as that would affect what Newell can be counted as.

I didn't think there was a NSW Scholarship scheme anymore - I thought that from here it was all Academy based. In which case, you'd think they'd apply retroactively.

Quigley or Offsider what type of player is Nick Hayes? Brett Anderson said we like him!
Have to be rookie interest only. Tall forward but measured only 187cm and was probably the worst jumper tested. Just can't get off the ground. Pace is poor and endurance nothing to write home about. He does have a great set of hands and can kick them when he gets hold of it though. He is a country kid so might not have trained for the testing but I would suggest he is no chance to go in the ND.

Thanks dlanod. I think you'll find though that the special category only applies to new scholarship upgrades, not previous ones such as Newell.

Mr

Squiggle is a possible melbourne draftee who is wondering when you will make your selection in in your mock draft thread that you created on this board.

With all due respect... you are up. ;)
Oh shit I better get to it! ;) I'll need more information for the BIO

There are still a small number of previously signed players on NSW scholarships. The last lot come in the next year or two. This would also apply to those graduating this year.

Have not commented so far, but for me, I cannot see the value of using pick 8 on a KPP. Hopefully it is the last top 10 we get for a while, & as a totally dependant on others observervations I cannot see 1 there that justifies that pick.

We have a couple of good academy prospects coming through, & IMO, we should wait 1 season & have faith in who we have. As one that saw 5 or 6 ressies games early in the season, I really rate Justin Clark. Give him time. McKeever has potential. Lisle has come along & now we have Martin on board, who I have always liked.

But the 1 I have high hopes for is Sam Michael. Whilst not starring in what I saw, there were 3 things that stood out to me - his work rate, his marking & his physicality. An amazing athlete for his size, a great pair of hands (above Acorn IMO) and an attack on the game that resonates of Charmo. Never under-estimate the fear & hurt factor this type of player can bring to a team. Ask Leigh Matthews. Opponents rush disposals, or look over the shoulder. I was a huge fan of Merrett forward this year, largely because if this - the cannonball effect. I saw that game in Darwin (praise be then NTFL website) & was gobsmacked. Saw the reports on the rest of his finals series & was impressed and, thanx NAFL website, that game in Canberra. After that run, give the 19 year old another year & see what we have got.

But the sealer for me is his desire to make it. Everything I have read, from underage through Redlands & onward has consistently told of a bloke that puts in the extra yards - he wont die wondering. And that is what gets you over the line in the last 1/4 of a grand final.

AFIAK, give this crew another year to develop & take a class mid with this pick - maybe wWines or another rated dropping down the draft ladder, or some-one with potential like a McRae - my uninformed, uneducated choice.

I have only seen a few highlights of him from the SANFL, and he looks like a solid medium forward. I doubt he would go in the main draft and he would be a long shot for the rookie draft. He has strong hands and is a good kick for goal, if he is as nonathletic as Quigley is saying then he would be a long shot to make it. Similar to a shorter Matt Panos from 2009, except not as good, nor as tall, or as well performed

With the play we made for Hogan - who couldn't play next season - I would be surprised if a KPP isn't our no.1 priority at 8, which puts Jaksch right in the picture. The whisper is that Carlton are pretty keen on him at 11 - if true, it appears that we may not be paying too much over the odds, if indeed we do go down that path. If however Wines is available, he seems like the type of player that Vossy would love and I couldn't see him getting overlooked.

Always appreciate your input cc, but just cos Carlton are equally as desperate as us for a KPF doesn't make Jaksch good value IMO.
