It almost seems a given what GWS's Picks 1 to 3 are going to be now.

So what's happened here?

You almost have to think they have virtually laid their cards on the table, which I find rather puzzling.....what's in it for them to be playing show poker a few days before the draft?

I suppose they could just be "nice guys" and helping their fellow clubs out by giving us all a bit of "clarity"

Or it could be just big con/leg pull to throw the rest of the draft into chaos.

I wouldn't be shocked if when push comes to shove, they didn't go Whitfield, Grundy and Toumpas....1,2,3 ...like everyone expected them to do until recently....and then sit back and have a good old belly laugh at how gullible the rest of the world is.

Interesting....I wonder how much the other clubs trust them?

The Crows might be kicking themselves for giving up their draft picks now that Grundy is being tipped to slide.

that's not a big head.

You'd think the AFL would make this info readily available, but I can't see anything with an official time. Reports have been saying 'Thursday night's draft...' and I think whatboutbob said that it was on at 5:30pm from memory.

The event will again be staged at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach from 5.30 – 7.30pm (local time).

Will the draft be broadcast online again like last year? One of the radio stations, if I recall correctly.

Last few years SEN's broadcast it online, one year through their site and the last couple of times through the AFL site only. I'd be surprised if there weren't radio streams available through the AFL site.

It almost seems a given what GWS's Picks 1 to 3 are going to be now.

I think GWS has finally realised what the rest of the world, barring the AFL, has realised - it doesn't matter if you tip your hand on the first picks. NFL clubs basically announce the first few picks ahead of the draft, unless a particular club wants to trade their pick away. NBA is similar I believe. If you tip your hand on the first pick, or first three in this case, what's the negative? Only the worst prepared clubs are going to be spun for a loop if you publicised one way and picked another, and you won't have another pick soon enough to take advantage (in a normal year).

Nothing legal. The only online streaming is radio.

Can anyone tell me if there's a melb radio station covering the draft? i know i can follow online but won't have access at that time.cheers

I can't believe that I have to sit here for the rest of the day to wait and see if we get Wines. To cover this I have my finger in a few other pies to not get too disappointed. All that talk about it feeling like Xmas eve is certainly turning out to be true!

The Q & A session with the recruiting team on the Club's website, while naturally not revealing any trade secrets, is a good insight into the drafting process and another example of their genuine attempt to keep fans better informed. The club should be congratulated for it. Here's hoping the result tonight helps to build the successful team we all want.

Just remember, some Christmas gifts come with aunt Gerta's wet, sloppy kiss.

Aside from the full-time staff, who else makes up the Lions’ extensive recruiting network?
...

They include Rick Dowling, Russell Gardner, Ashley Craig and Stuart Page (Victoria), Peter Fitzgerald, James Saywell and Luke Norman (South Australia), Brett Wills and Terry Pass (Western Australia), Darryn Perry (Tasmania), and Leigh Brain (NSW/ACT).

Any relation to our former NSW Scholarship player?

Just realised that Foxtel will be showing coverage at 7pm so will be fun to watch it instead of listening on the radio.

They pretty much did the same last year when it was an open secret who the first 5 selections were going to be.

I'd say that they don't lose too much by revealing this. The clubs with picks in the top dozen would have put that much work into contingency planning. If a surprise is sprung, they just move onto plan B, C etc.

GWS may actually take it a step further. I can see some merit in them approaching other top 10 clubs with a "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" offer. The Lions, for example, would love to know who is definitely off the table because they can put a line through those guys and really hone down their strategy. And it helps GWS who, with pick 12, would be advantaged by getting as much info from the clubs with picks 4-11. It may be that Silvagni now has a pretty good idea of how the top 11 will pan out. This obviously relies on a bit of game theory.

FWIW, I don't think clubs would tell flat out lies to one another. Remember that these organisations have to deal with each other constantly. We're seeing with the trade period that goodwill and a reputation as a fair dealer is very important to clubs. They might use misinformation via the media but I don't reckon they would flat out lie to one another.

In short, I'd be pretty confident that the top 3 is set in stone.

His head can't be any bigger than Rich or Merrett's. Some mean head meat going on there.

Browny couldn't get a cricket helmet properly onto his bonce on the Cricket Show recently. I suspect he'd win the Battle of the Bigheads.
