In today's Couriemail theres and article saying were keen on Aliir Aliir.

I just can't see it. He is athletic sure but that is it. He is too short to ruck in the AFL (this is where he has played virtually all his time for QLD) and in other positions he looks lost with limited game sense. People complain about Niall's game sense but Aliir's is about 10 times worse. There are a lot of solid prospects I would give a rookie spot to ahead of him.

Was it written by Hamo?

His ignorance has started to spread to the Suns. :( He made a call about our list that we should delist Sam Iles. No even worth a trade apparently. I mean, he'd be up there in the top 5 for our Best & Fairest.

Unbelievable.

What's the opposite of a kiss of death?

He is going to test very well at DC or State Screening. Won't be the last we hear of him in terms of media hype. Whether that translates to a list spot is uncertain. I wouldn't put it past a club to take a punt with a rookie selection if the athletic potential presents itself on testing.

He is going to test well no doubt about that and it is a nice story for the media to run. If he shows good development between now and the end of the year then he might be a chance to get picked up. He would want to show teams glimpses of where he could end up and that he is moving quickly toward that destination. If he just maintains his current level with only marginal improvement I would be dirty if we picked him over say young Clarke who is playing ressies for us atm.

I've heard that his marking has improved substantially in the past 12 months. From what I've heard, if he's going to make it, it will be as a high leaping half forward. But you've got to have some smarts if you're going to play that role.

Small point re article - caption for photo states it's of him at a centre bounce but has Qld fullback jumping next to him! Presumably just sent photographer to game to get a nice picture for a feel good story in sun paper - wonder if Hammo has every actually met him or watched him play...

Hmm, so the bulldogs got an after first round compensation pick for losing Ward? That seems a bit much, we didn't even get close to that for our reigning B&F winner. They really handed them out when GWS went poaching didn't they?

How's Ward playing and how's Rischitelli playing?

I personally think Ward is worth that kind of compensation.
The 2 I was concerned about was Campbell Brown receiving the same as Rischi and Scully. No way was Scully worth that they have turned an injury prone first rounder into another top 3 prospect and mid first rounder.

I guess I would have to double check the ago difference between Rischa and Ward, but it just feels a bit harsh they compensated the dogs on potential and not us on the same thing. It doesn't matter what kind of players they were now, but Rischa coming off winning a B&F surely had the same amount of potential as Ward did when moving from the Bulldogs.

They would have been wrong about Rischa is seems, but it would have been nice to have gotten a fair go. I'm not really that up in arms about it, just wondering if it was just me feeling a ltitle hard done by. I guess it is!

Ward was getting paid a lot more by GWS than Rischa was by the Suns. Compensation has been determined by wages offered I'm pretty sure...

Riska had a pretty good first year at the Suns. Pretty much on par with Ward's first year at GWS. Ward does not have Ablett to contend with also. If not for Ablett, Riska would have been a two club best and fairest winner.

I also believe we got short changed on the Riska compensation, all things considered.

I agree.

As previous posters have indicated, the size of the contract was a big factor in determining compensation. We can blame Riska for not being greedy enough in his contract demands!

I am not sure if you are serious or facetious here POBT?

There's no sarcastic thingo after your greedy comment so I take it we are on the same page:)

A bit of both!

I agree with you in terms of the Riska compo pick. At the time, I don't think I was too perturbed. But seeing what clubs got last year says to me that, by comparison, we were under-compensated for Riska. The comp we received might have been right in terms of the guidelines set but there is no way that Riska, at the time of his departure from the Lions, was worth less than Ward, at the time of his departure from the Dogs.

I'm not going to storm AFL House over it because they had to set rules and apply them and I think that, within those rules, the compensation was technically right. But it produced an unfair outcome.
