I would only be offerring Tippett the same kind of money we were offerring Clark. If that doesn't get it done we should just walk away. Atm he is one of the most overpaid players in the competition based on performance. I hope we don't make the same mistake the Crows made when they signed him to his current deal.

Definitely agree with this. We are offering him a ticket home, he needs to take a paycut to facilitate it. Hopefully he knows that the Crows are paying him significantly above his true value.

From the few interveiws and tweets that I have seen of Kurt, he does not appear to be very silly. One would think he has insight into his current situation.

If our window is around 3 to 5 years away that would put Tippett in the 28 to 30 bracket. Well and truly battle harden and hopefully injury free. The question being - is he as good as he's paycheck suggests (going by the rumors anyway). I think we'll learn a lot about Tippett this year. Assuming he wants out and back to Qld, it will give the us a good chance to decide if he is a good fit or not.

I understand that is what Tippett agreed to last year...crows just wouldnt sign off on the deal without our 2 1st draft picks

With all this Tippett talk, maybe we need to start the 2012 trade thread?

Yeah, we can't prove that he agreed to a significantly lesser deal, but it's blatantly obvious that he had at the very least consented to a trade.

Brisbane wouldn't have been dealing with the Crows with 20 mins left in trade week if Kurt hadn't already signed off.

IIRC, the sticking point was Redden. I believe the Crows wanted players, not draft picks, and were asking for at least Redden, if not Redden and Polec. We weren't prepared to trade away players essential to our future, no matter how much we wanted Tippett.

It is safe to assume we will be keeping in contact with his manager through the year. If he really does want to come home, he could do a lot worse than coming into a club who should be improving over the next few years, and getting decent coin.

*insert Reddo and Rocky joke here*

Honestly, I think Tippett is surplus to our needs.

If we have the money and we dont need to trade a valuable player to acquire Tippett, there is merit in chasing his signature. Of course, the downside is that it's likely one of Cornelius or Retzlaff will see that the writing is on the wall and request a trade, or will be deemed surplus to requirements. Retzlaff I don't see becoming more than an honest battler, however Cornelius has something special, the question is, when will it click?

An athletic power forward with physical presence? Can't see too many of them on our list beyond our 30 year old captain.

I'm still willing to give young blokes like Ace, Retzy and Karnezis a chance. Who says we need a power forward anyway, we just need a bloke who can get the ball and kick goals. Power forwards are SO overrated anyway :p

Karnezis is quality but he isn't a spearhead.

Retry and Cornelius have this whole year to make a statement. If they don't, Tippett will be a godsend.

Tippett kicked 31 goals 22 behinds last year from 18 games.

Mitch Clarke who was a major disappointment to most kicked 27 goals 13 behinds from 17 games.

Tippett is not the messiah he is just an very average FF (maybe less than that based on last year).

Yeah but the Crows were nearly bad as us last year. Tippett has looked remarkably better this pre-season with a functional football team around him.

IMO Billy Longer will delete the need for Tippett by years end.

That would be fantastic.

In that case, the money earmarked for Tippett could be used to fill another need (a key defender) or we could frontload a bunch of contracts and free up future cap space to protect ourselves from free agent poaching in coming years.
