So is this Mcbean character a backmen who is the height of a ruckmen??
Mcbean can play forward back and ruck. He is more suited to the second ruckman role. Mcbean has played as a backman this year but he can also play forward when playing forward Mcbean has good footy smarts and leads into the right places.

He seems highly rated. Would be handy to have a defender at 200cm. What pick is he expected to go at?
I reckon that he could go anywhere between pick 15-40 it really depends how he tests and clubs specific needs for a player like him.

McBean is a lot like Keefe from Collingwood. Ruck sized but very good agility for his size. Good pace although maybe not as good as Keefe. His skills have been pretty good when I have seen him but he is a bit prone to inconsistency. He drifted away in the Champs and did not play the final game. He is an interesting prospect and best suited to a third tall role at the back I think. He reads play pretty well and doesn't mind running off. The third tall role would also allow him to go into the ruck without disrupting the back 6 too much and also to cover the ruck who moves forward.

The most apt description I've heard of him is that McKeever is a poor mans McBean but with far better endurance. Would that be fair to say?

Yeah about right there. Mckeevs endurance is the strong point in his game.

Mcbean can also play forward and can play well as a forward. He is a smart footballer

Coming into the year I had massive hopes for McBean to become a dominant KPF, late last year he really dominated some games kicked a few goals and took lots of marks. This year he hasn't really come on and struggles with his consistency both between games and in games, he goes missing a lot. I think he is potentially a bit flaky, he doesn't like the physical side to the game to much and I think he will struggle against the big bodied defenders/forwards. He has a fair bit of upside and the potential is definitely there but I just think he could possibly be a bust.

On Aliir Aliir I wouldn't take him, he is a rookie at best and a massive long shot. I liken him to Majak Daw at the Kangaroos, but a bit shorter so he will struggle even more. He plays ruck at underage level but will need to learn a new position probably as a key defender.

I have to disagree with you on that one Offsider. A player like Mcbean is never going to be overly consistent at U 18 level unless they are exceptionally talented. Mcbean can fade out of games but can usually get the job done when he is playing. Mcbean is also very good at ground level it is needless to say that that is important for a big man.
On Aliir Aliir I agree with you. He could be anything but I would be suprised if he would be able to play to the same standard as Nic Natanui

If we go with Shaw at pick 8 and Hrovat is available at pick 23 and didn't choose him, I'd be so bummed, really hoping for a inside mid whether it's Wines, O'rourke or Hvrovat. also Macrae at pick 8 i would prefer but think port will nab him.

This is for Offsider and Quigley. With it being GF morning it has dawned on me (whilst watching replays of 80's classics) that premiership teams have hard tough buggers be it down back, in the guts or up front. Out of this years crop does anyone see this type of factor in any of these boys? We should be building a team to win premierships not just to play finals.

McKeever's defensive abilities are far better than McBeans, whereas McBean has excellent skills for his size. He plays more like a 203cm wingman/HF.
My reading of our pick #8 is that we will go a best available mid - re McBean, I've seen him maybe only a half dozen times over two years of TAC but every time liked what I saw - if I had not read Offsiders reports of inconsistency I would have been happy use pick 8.

Sadly i don't see him being there for our current second pick.

i strongly believe watching him in action he is a great pick up --i hope with the coaches we picked up and dayle's clear desire for a fresh start he should be our 1st pick @ 8 --Quick Notes on Dayle Garlett

  • Outside midfielder
  • Great pace
  • Takes the game on
  • Left footer
  • Kicks goals
  • Smart footballer
  • Can win his own football if required
  • Off field concerns re discipline

Dayle Garlett in detail

Dayle Garlett is an incredibly talented outside midfielder with a great football brain.
Garlett could be a top ten selection in this years draft if recruiters are satisfied with his off field attitude and its not hard to see why. Dayle takes the game on, uses the ball fantastically when on the outside of a contest and isn’t afraid to win his own ball.
The most exciting thing about Garlett is his ability to sum up the situation quickly, it isn’t rare to see Garlett win the football under pressure, break away from the contest and have the poise and skill to hit the right target.
On footballing ability alone Garlett is a top ten draft pick but some reported discipline issues could see him slide to the top 20, if he does the club which picks him up should be extremely excited.
The highlights package below is from last year, it should be enough to show case his strengths but keep in mind he has got even better over the past 12 months.

Yeah Dayle Garlett is my pick. Does anybody on here seriously not want this guy? I mean off field concerns aside he is the next Cyril Rioli and we could definitely use a Cyril in our side.
