The Lions are highly interested in Laine Wilkins who has performed very well thus far at the combine. They'd be looking at him very closely for their second round pick.

Best case scenario for me would be a Brennan type deal. Get GWS to offer Banfield a big fat contract and trade the compensation pick as well as pick 8 and maybe someone else.

I suspect jackess was referring to the compo pick we would receive for Banfield.

ETA On 2nd reading, perhaps you realised that. I just struggle to see Banfield getting a contract that would earn a end of first round compo pick.

Clearly we would be rating him higher. My point was simply that if we use pick 8 we are then left with our best pick at 23 which is unlikely to get us one of the top rated midfielders.

I think quite clearly that chasing Hogan means giving up our right to any of the really highly rated players in this year's draft - midfielder or otherwise.

Gotcha. Makes more sense although it then looks a bit like one of those "bitza" trades that get mooted. I'd be surprised if we got any better than a 3rd rounder for Banfield because I can't see GWS throwing massive amounts of money at Banfield just for the sake of it.

It's not for the sake of it. The aim would be to get a better trade for MD pick 2. Plus it would probably take a decent contract to get Banfield to GWS.

The "possibly" is a bit of a giveaway, while the unnamed 'sources' don't help give it cred.

After discussions on a Karnezis/Post swap I'll take guesswork if it's at least plausible.

Hogan to learn for 2 years from Browny before the big fella hangs up the boots. A year spent with senior AFL company while onl 17 also accelerates his development. Already physically developed too so won't need years spent beefing up. Great endurance already too with a beep of 14.2. Apparently competes well and has a football brain. Strong presence and a good mark.

Also fills a gaping hole on our list of a top end key forward prospect. Plus we'll know we have locked away a key position player prior to the draft so we can better plan our draft day strategy.

He would be my preference in terms of how we spend our pick 8.

Would love to get Hogan. I can't see how the Bulldogs will give up 5 and 6 for the Mini draft pick 1. That seems a bit overs. They may get another pick back from GWS.

Assuming they take Viney early, Melbourne have picks 4, 13 and 26 plus players to offer. Box seat if they use pick 4.

Geelong has a priority pick plus pick 15. They may also put one of their young rucks or key forwards into the mix. The ability to save the priority pick for next year would be attractive to GWS.

Not sure what Freo would have beyond pick 16. The oh so hyped Zac Clarke perhaps?

We've got the 2nd best draft pick out of the named clubs.

I reckon if the Dogs are doing the 5&6 for Mini draft pick 1 they will be getting the remaining pre-listed player GWS can offer.

The Demons will be obliged to take the classy young Viney with their first pick at number three after Gold Coast officials declared their interest in taking him with their first choice at number two.

As a general note, Collingwood elected not to nominate Stewart under the F/S rule. I'm a bit surprised by that.

Reading that article it highlights a smack of arrogance from GWS stating that it would take two front end first round picks to get the mini draft pick 1. That is way over. Burgoyne was two picks at 9 and 16 and he was and is a quality player. Martin is just a kid. I'm all for going for Hogan but not for selling the farm and want him quite bad - Pick 8 and player. It should be relative.
