I've seen a few phantom drafts where Jackson Macrae goes at around our pick. Thoughts on him guys??

Sorry but that story is very hard to believe. I have never seen Karnezis crash a pack, he doesn't have a big leap on him or really good pace, you need to be able to do at least one of these things well to be a key forward and if he has already lost pace with the extra weight put on then he's only going to get slower. His fitness has a long way to go as well and in the reserves he played in the midfield, why would he play there if he was going to be our next key forward?
The Swans delisted a guy by the name of Dylan Mcneil this week. Is 21 and had 3 years at the Swans.Over the past 2 seasons has been named in the 5 best players each week on so many occasions for the Swans magoos, its not funny.. but still didnt get a crack at the ones.It is a shame that a player who is obviously a fan favourite is so keen to leave. What a Moo IMO. I wish him no luck at all if he leaves the Lions.

Redden was highly regarded inside midfielder and rated second behind Hartlett in the SA U18 squad. All this subterfuge about Redden and how we somehow pulled a great robbery is a myth. Melbourne was very keen and so were few other clubs.
Ah, there was no lower grade type scenario in Redden's case.
my dad spoke with Patty k - and his parents they r neighbours . patty k does want to come home he is home sick . patty k told my dad he was to be the j brown replacement , they put him on a weight programme however patty k stated it slowed down his speed and was felt the idea did not work , Voss has stated him as required player.my dad who worked with several afl clubs has spoken on behalf of patty k to carlton and richmond , carlton advised my dad they will discuss patty k on monday with mick as to wether or not they will make a play or not for him.if he stays he will probably leave next year when his contract is finished. my dad introduced patty k to carlton well before he got drafted to brisbane

Once you get outside those guys you get into kids with more question marks, i.e. Menzel (knees), Membrey (played at full forward in TAC but only 189 cm), Garlett (baggage), etc.You well may be right. However let's dispel this myth that somehow we plucked Redden out of nowhere because our recruiters conspired to keep him a secret. Nothing further from the truth. As you point out now days with so much money and focus being invested in talent identification I don't believe anyone escapes the scrutiny of the AFL clubs. Even the draft strategy of opposition clubs is examined thoroughly. It becomes just a matter of which club has a specific need and where they see him in the order of the draft. Some have a higher profile than others however ultimately the talented kids surface to the top. From my recollection he didn't go to draft camp and only played a couple of U18 matches, so I don't think he was held in that esteem. Either that or it was a poor year for SA. But your point that other clubs knew about him is true. However I would still maintain that he was a steal at that pick.
What is apparent is that the recruiting strategies of clubs aren't as great a secret as might be suspected. Sure they might hold some cards close to their chest, but there's very few true smokies. Someone like Justin Clarke or Lachlan Keeffe would be the closest you get these days given the amount of talent identification that goes on.

There was an article about Melbourne wanting to draft Redden at pick 30-40 and we gazumped them by going early.
If recollect correctly Clark had an article written about him in the Age well pre-draft, the usual bushie talent and distance to city, isolation etc... However almost every club showed interest but they did not have the in depth knowledge about him as they did with some of the other kids. He had to play at least one game in a major competition to qualify for the draft. I think the Crows organised this and had him pegged to recruit him. Why they didn't is a mystery. I think the Crows believe that wherever he goes at some point in the future they will be able to extract him and return him back to SA. This is purely conjecture on my behalf.Apparently 'about 10 clubs' were sniffing around Clarke, and didn't AFLQ head get sacked for his part in the Keeffe shenanigans?
Do you barrack for Richmond on the side per chance?
Do Carlton make a move without discussing it with dad? I'd think not, sounds like he's a reputable sort.
My draft perference (and im no expert)...but I want either Foot skills or X Factor for our 1st pick.
so either
1) Garlett for his run and carry with explosive pace and X Factor. I remeber thinking this of Rioli and watched us take Henderson instead
2) Sam Mayes...he played for my footy club (bias call yeah as I can say that I have been hit on the chest by a Sam Mayes bullet pass)...but geez, the guy is a great kid, versatile as hell, and has a great kick. Oh,and when he heads back to town I can get easy autographs and photos. Seriously, this kid is born to play footy
As I said, I can't remember exact details, but I wasn't trying to say we were the only club that knew about him. Only that we were very keen, were since early in the piece but closer to the draft more clubs got interested as he was playing well. We took him earlier because we rated him and didn't think he would be at our next pick.Redden was highly regarded inside midfielder and rated second behind Hartlett in the SA U18 squad. Agreed. The idea of clubs squirrelling away a player is ridiculous. With the way the larger footy community talk there are really no secrets and even if there was an undiscovered gem, all clubs will want to look at them at a higher level. Case in point: Zyrus Manson. You well may be right. However let's dispel this myth that somehow we plucked Redden out of nowhere because our recruiters conspired to keep him a secret. Interesting if true. Not sure if anyone has said this but we are looking at Scott Clouston again. I believe 3 other clubs are also interested in him as well.
I think all of Wines, Stringer, and O'Rouke, will be gone by the time our pick comes around more likely Mayes, MacRea, Menzel, and Garlett, are the Mids that I think will avilable at around our pick. But my heart is set on Shaw but I think I will be disappionted.Wines, Stringer and O'Rourke for me at 8. Better to have a few, less chance of disappointment. Hope we go KPP with the rest.
